so now you're the judge of what good taste is on this board; or was this just an arbitrary decision you decided to make. I'm guessing the later in this instance.

Last time I checked my name is in blue.

I am not going to get into a sandbox fight with you little 4 year old. I don't want to get my hands dirty nor get you banned (not by me, but who knows else is looking)...so I'm just going to stop responding.

So your parting shot is to call me a 4 year old? Very mature for an omniscient board administrator.

And the threat of getting 'banned' requires an act of malfeasence. Instead of threatening me, why don't you outline my transgressions which would warrent a banning. I don't think you can and your threat is an idle one and perhaps should be reported.

These tournaments are a joke, if you want your school in them, that's your prerogative, but you aren't convincing me these tournaments mean anything or will even be around in ten years.

Like I said before, MTSU as a basketball school, is in no position to talk. I'm guessing, half the schools in the cbi have more ncaa appearances than only 7

1. No position to talk about what? Being able to make a decision that's in our best interest?

2. Six of the 16 schools have more NCAA appearances, so closer to a third not half, but even if it were half I'm not sure what this has do with anything. No one is saying because we have x number of NCAA appearances the CBI is beneath us. We played in the CBI four our five years ago. This time around they didn't want to do it. So, what's the problem?

You have NO position to be critical of teams playing in the tournament just because your players were upset about getting snubbed. Second, there are 6 teams who have a better bball history than you in the tournament and 3 additional schools who have pretty much the same history as MTSU.

UTEP fans for the most part don't like these tournaments, but most UTEP fans this year, are happy that we're giving these players a chance to play, and I agree. Considering the circumstances that surrounded the team this year, I am happy to see these players play together again.

Obviously, our players wanted to continue and persevere through this season and maybe the MTSU players didn't, I'm not going to say that's a good call or not, but you aren't the judge of rather a person should quit or keep on playing. Only the players and coaches know that and your players decided to make a statement.

After it is all said and done, and after all that happened this season, I'm glad our team will continue to play. They deserve it!

Nobody is telling you that your team shouldn't play. This entire thread is going because some idiots were calling our guys quitters for not wanting to play in a meaningless tournament which is silly. I bet if you guys win(I like your odds) you don't hang a banner.

I don't think the mtsu players quit, they went out and made a statement. Was it the right one? I don't know, but I understand how they feel. Nobody can speak ill of a team's decision, unless you have to put up with SJ force feeding you that his team was and will be the best because they won one of these tournaments.

I guess if my team had a post season ban any tournament would look good to me too.

This got started because MTSU fans tried to justify their position by belittling schools who are attending these tournaments. And you have to admit that it looks like sour grapes when you turn down invitation because you didn't get to go to the tournament you wanted to. Sure, we would love to be in your position, we'd jump at the chance for a tourney invite. Maybe in the near future.

I agree. ASU turned the CBI and CIT town publicly either last year or the year before, and pretty much made it known that we are not interested in a pay for play postseason tournament

Our fans supported the decision. I know other schools where the opportunity to keep playing and win is nice. But our argument was that we weren't spending 45K to host a game in which 2K might show up to watch because of general lack of fan interest in such a tournament.

I do think that once you turn down a bid, its hard to be invited back. So if MTSU is comfortable with that, as ASU Was...I think its a wise decision. CIT and CBI banners are sort of like the football and basketball state playoffs in Arkansas. designed to give everyone the chance to play postseason instead of only the elite.

Our guys were clear eyed enough not to take her home and I commend them for it. Look at the teams in it. Every team in this conference should have more self esteem than that.

First, let me say a couple of things, one I am not reply to just your post as other have made the false statement several times and I'm not just jumping in because my team is playing in CIT.

Okay, now let's get this right and address these out right false statements. These tournaments are NOT pay to play, they are pay to host. Again, NOT pay to play, pay to host. There is a reason why, these are younger tournaments that don't have the TV deals or Corporate backing that the NCAA and NIT have. Most the host fees go to reducing travel costs and to help make sure every team at least breaks even. Many choice not to host because they know they don't have the fan support or stadium size to make the money back. But, teams like UTEP, ECU, Weber St., ODU, and others do. They can make money of these tournaments.

These tournaments are no less a racket than the NIT, NCAA tournaments or the Bowls games in FB for that matter.

So let's stop with the false statements. Now, should you play in them or not. Personally I don't care. If don't, fine, you do fine. I can see the agreement for a Senior laden team not playing vs a young team like ECU playing. Also, I think ECU should play this year if for no other reason than to defend our title. But, this is probably the last year ECU would be looked at anyway. Last year we (C-USA for that matter) was almost removed from CIT selection process because we as conference we being to be too good for it, with multi-NCAA bids and multi-NIT bids. The AAC is already not looked at by CIT because of the multi-NCAA bids and conference RPI. This may also be the last year a C-USA team is ever selected. With that in mind can we stop the bashing, one cause it isn't as bad as you say and for respect of the the schools, teams, fans, and posters that have teams in these tournaments and will do our best to not only represent C-USA well, but win the damn things. Cause if you aren't going into them to win, hell yes you should keep your arse home.

Also, tell me why your school is the only one 'too good' to turn down a post-season invite. On second thought, save it, I've heard enough b.s. for one day.

We weren't the only ones to turn down invites this year and there have been many others in years past.

Buffalo, Indiana, Boise State, WKU did this year.

In 2008 New Mexico State, Alabama, Seton Hall, Texas Tech and Wake Forrest all did it, Xavier did it last year, Washington State did it in 2010.

These are just the quick results I've gotten from simply googling "turn down CBI CIT invite" there are far less schools willing to accept an invite to these joke tournaments than you realize.

But hey, don't let facts stand in the way of you telling us how to run our program...

First, think of an example of where you are the only school to turn down a tournament invite this year. Then you will see what I meant by the 'only ones'.

Second, turning down an invite if you don't want to pay the money to host these games makes sense to me. However, there is no reason to degrade the tournament or the schools who decide to attend just to justify your decision.

Finally, I prefaced my recommendation with 'if' I were the AD/pres, to try to place where the suggestion would need to come from. Not sure why this appears to have tickled your cockles but it's not that big of a deal. Though now in looking back, thinking that whether MTSU decided to go or not, is not really that big a deal; but the rest of the schools in your new conference decided to go, so in a sign of solidarity perhaps going would still have been the right choice.

p.s. how did you become a mod' on this board....must have been a rigorous process.

It couldn't matter one iota less that we were the only ones in the conference to turn down an invite. ECU, Tulane, UTEP,and ODU decided to play, that's their prerogative. At no point did I tell them they should or shouldn't play nor did I offer musings on what I would do if I were running things at their school, but thanks for another gem of a suggestion, the idea that we should have played, even though the senior class decided they weren't interested, out of "conference solidarity" is even more hilarious than your mission statement nonsense. Nearly half our roster and the leaders of the team decided they didn't want to play in either of those tournaments, but because four schools we've been in the same conference for nine months(half of which are exiting the conference) with decided to play, to hell with what our players think, solidarity!
