It's even more awkward due to the Big East conference still using the name.

I've decided I am not going to watch it. There is no way UConn is actually portrayed fairly by the Georgetown loving director that made it, nor the company the funded both the documentary and the destruction of the league.

The nice thing about losing the C7 and the name is I never actually had to change my opinion that I hate the C7 and the Big East.

How exactly do you think UConn is going to be portrayed?
As for ESPN and the Big East: In the early 1980s, ESPN helped create the Big East (and vice-versa), and from the time the Big East adopted football, no Big East school would ever have turned down a bid from another major conference.

It's too bad too, because I think it could make a hell of a documentary which showed the many attempts at killing it off via poaching, and how after each attempt 'lesser' programs stepped in to prove that great athletics were played outside of the major conferences. Also, since I'm biased, if it focused almost exclusively on football and wrapped up with UCF carrying the torch.

Yep, wonder if ESPN will point out that the Big East while it was ridiculed for years had more BCS Bowl success than the ACC. There was always a program that stepped up and won big BCS games for the Big East after each exodus from the league whether it was WVU, Louisville and ending with UCF. I consider the UCF BCS Bowl win last year the 9th win for the Big East as the name changed but it is the same Football Conference. The 9-7 BCS Bowl record in just 16 appearances is not too shabby. The ACC on the other hand relied on two BCS wins last year to improve their BCS Bowl record to 5-13 with 18 appearances. The Big East is only one win shy of the Big 12 who has a 10-12 record and the Big East is only 4 wins behind the PAC 12 who is 13-8.
I really doubt ESPN spins this type story to point out how the Big East was declared dead a few times and always seem to fight back despite the nay sayers. It was definitely the best Basketball Conference in the country and it drove the ACC so bat crap crazy that they kept raiding the Big East out of sheer jealousy.
The AAC/Big East faces a greater challenge then they ever have before with this last round of expansion but I think schools like UCF, Houston and ECU will step up to help the older members and schools like Memphis and Tulane will step up their Football and Tulsa will get back to normal.

We just need to keep the ACC from winning National Championships.

I agree that the recent Big East was the best basketball league and the ACC basketball crew in North Carolina didn't like it. I also fully expect AAC schools to take great joy from anyone outside the ACC winning titles if someone like UConn isn't winning it themselves.
That will be a challenge, as teams making up the 2014-15 ACC have won 6 of the last 13 titles, spread among 4 programs.

Shame the ACC destroyed the best College Basketball Conference Championship Tournament. I am not a huge college basketball fan and definitely not a fan of any of the past Big East members but I loved being in NYC during the Big East Tournament and buying tickets off early round losing schools fans to catch a couple Big East Tournament games. Hopefully the ACC will figure out a way to get their Tournament out of Greensboro or Charlotte and take it somewhere with something interesting to see or do. I am guessing fans of former Big East schools who attend the ACC Tournament will miss the good old days of Madison Square Garden and NYC.

The Big East in the 80s was phenomenal though. I didn't have a horse in that race so to speak but the sudden growth of the league, and the talent that they had in basketball centric schools was incredible. ESPN was their partner in crime when both were fledglings and they did grow together.
Unfortunately ESPN had a horse in that race. It'll be interesting to see what their opinion is of the current Big East since they no longer have the rights to that property.

I feel confident that their opinion of the current Big East is the same as their opinion of the NHL.

As a second rate program. The Cuse blogger already wrote this:

No documentary is going to portray UConn as second-rate. Sounds like what it does do is focus on the Syracuse-Georgetown rivalry as the story-arc to document the rise and demise of the Big East. Since that rivalry was indeed at the heart of the conference start to finish, it is appropriate and logical to do so, especially given that we are talking about a 90 minute documentary. It's not like this Ken Burns's Civil War, where he had 12 hours to break down every aspect of conference history.

Then they should probably be advertising it as the "30 for 30: Syracuse-Georgetown Rivalry" or "30 for 30: The Early Years of the Big East." If you're talking about the high and low points of Big East basketball (a remembrance of its entirety), then glossing over the program who won 2 more national championships (and the most conference/tournament titles) than any other member school in the Big East doesn't make that much sense...
