RE: SK finalist for POY Cronin COY
Does this hurt his chances to have his jersey retired since he didn't win conference player of the year? Fortson and Logan both won multiple player of the year awards.

There are four of them that go into determining a consensus All-American. I know that one released today by the USBWA is one as well as the Sporting News (where SK was first team) but I can't remember the other 2 off the top of my head.

From wikipedia (so take with a grain of salt):

Quote:While an increasing number of media outlets select All-America teams, the NCAA recognizes consensus All-America teams back to 1905.[2] These teams have drawn from two to six major media sources over the years, and are intended to reflect the opinions of most college basketball experts. Today the four teams used to select consensus teams are: the Associated Press, The National Association of Basketball Coaches, the United States Basketball Writers Association and Sporting News magazine. Since 1984, the NCAA has applied a standardized point system to those teams designated as "major" All-American teams to determine consensus teams. The point system consists of three points for first team, two points for second team and one point for third team. No honorable mention or fourth team or lower are used in the computation. The top five totals plus ties are first team and the next five plus ties are second team.[3]

"Consensus" is considered the top 5 aggregate point totals, with ties. So SK still has a chance to be a Consensus All-American.

Overjoyed for Mick and for Jumpin' Jack. Stunned for Kilpatrick (should have had split winners IMO).

Statsheet breaks it out like that. Kilpatrick was at 22.9 ppg, Napier at like 19, Smith at 18. All three players boosted their performance in conference play.

Psh...SPortsman of the Year...more like "We know you should be POY but we copped out and gave you this so all 3 of the best players get something, even though we should've just split it if we're honest" award

What is sportsman of the year? The AAC board states that Napier won player of the year. I could live with Russ Smith winning the award because his team shared the conference title and if you look at what he did by hitting the game winner at UC and the awesome game he had SMU there is at least some merit for that. Heck that is who Cronin voted for because he couldn't vote for his own player. Shabazz spent the entire final week of the season fighting with his team and hunting his own shot. UConn is probably going to get bounced in the first game in Memphis and then get beat in the first round of the NCAA tournament too.

Precisely why they couldn't give Napier or Russ (selfishness) sportsman of the year 03-wink

RE: SK finalist for POY Cronin COY
So if my math is correct, in the 8 games against UL, UConn, Memphis and SMU, Kilpatrick averaged:

23.1 points
5.4 rebounds
2.8 assists

In essence, against the best competition UC faced all season, Kilpatrick played better than his season average in all these stats.

“@LanceMcAlister: 8 games vs Top 5 in conference: Napier 18.9 points, 5 rebounds, 3.1 assists...SK 23.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists #Bearcats”

0.4 assists doomed SK lol

"The Consensus 2013 College Basketball All-American team was determined by aggregating the results of the four major All-American teams as determined by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Since United Press International was replaced by TSN in 1997, the four major selectors have been the aforementioned ones. AP has been a selector since 1948, NABC since 1957 and USBWA since 1960.[2] To earn "consensus" status, a player must win honors based on a point system computed from the four different all-America teams. The point system consists of three points for first team, two points for second team and one point for third team. No honorable mention or fourth team or lower are used in the computation. The top five totals plus ties are consensus first team and the next five plus ties are consensus second team.[3]"

Based on key stats (pts, FG%, FT%, A/TO ratio, R) I have Napier the clear winner, with SK #2, RS #3. But I honestly thought it would between SK and Russ due to winning of conference. I couldn't find defensive stats to factor in either.

next step for SK: AAC Conference Tourney MVP

Wow, those stats are ver revealing. And considering UC won the league and SK had to play in the most limited offensive team of the three, SK really did get hosed.

I just can't believe they gave it to a player that hunts it own shot, fights with his teammates, and was complete non-factor in the most important conference games. At least SK won something, can't wait to hear from Mick Cronin.

Total and utter BS on Kilpatrick. Congrats to Mick tho . This is backwards of what I expected as I thought they'd give COY of Larry Brown.

Mick on his radio show Monday was talking up that he thought that Sean getting first team AA was a bigger honor than AAC player of the year. So maybe he saw this coming.

Congrats to JJ too ..well deserved!
