I'm not really a big basketball fan. But even I don't see how anyone can deny that March Madness is -- by far -- the most intense, frenzied, joyous part of the American sports calendar. Congrats to Winthrop!

Eastern Kentucky up by 10 in second half in the OVC championship. Belmont would get the NIT autobid if they lose.

EKU holds on. Belmont to the NIT.

I think the saddest part of this thing is that I've seen Eastern Kentucky on TV more than I've seen UTEP.

I work a second shift job, and I'd venture to say that I've seen more Utah State and West Coast Conference games than I have most of the top 25 teams. UNC-Duke? Not when there's San Francisco-San Diego action!

March Madness, opening day, the Masters, the World Cup. A great few months of major sporting events coming up.

I've been blessed to attend each of those events at some point of my life. Had fun at all of them, but (IMHO) only March Madness is able to convey the same sense of drama and urgency to the audience watching on TV as to the people watching in person.

Mercer wins the A-Sun. FGCU to the NIT.

4 tourneys are done. Wichita St. is the only top seed that has won.

I was only 10 when the World Cup was here last, was very much looking forward to it coming in '18 or '22...oh well, I'll be at least 42 before it's played on US soil again, but I cannot wait to see a WC in person.

The UAlbany Great Danes knocked off regular season conference champ Vermont today, so Vermont will take a spot in the NIT. Let's go Danes!

Green Bay might still be in the running for an at large.

They have wins over 4 top 100 teams including 1 top 10 RPI team and a 3 point loss to a top 5 RPI team.

Although their RPI is higher, if I were on the selection committee and saw blind resumes for USM and UW-GB, I'd hands down choose UW-GB.

Green Bay isn't getting an at large according to Joe Lunardi. Many of us don't like him here, but he's normally pretty spot on.

Green Bay has no shot to get an at-large. Their RPI is in the 60s now and only teams from the Big 5 have made it with RPI s that low.

Why? Our RPI is 35; theirs is 63. We are 1-1 vs Top 50; they are 1-2. We are 2-2 vs 51-100; they are 3-1. We are 10-2 vs 101-200; they are 7-3. I would probably pick them over Missouri or Dayton but not Southern Miss.

RE: First NIT slot taken...
Sorry, maybe I'm in the minority...but I hate when some 7th or 8th place team of a lower level league somehow beats the top 1 or 2 seed and makes the Regular season champion of the league miss the NCAA tourney. If I was a commish of some of the lower level leagues, I would restrict my conference tournament to the top 4 in the league standings. More than likely, the top 4 teams in each would at least have winning records.

I'm with you. There could be a 25-5 team who loses in the championship game to a 13-19 team who just got hot at the right time and the first team misses out on the tourney. Then the 13-19 team gets promptly destroyed in the first round of the NCAA's. Happens all too often really.
