Quote:Mountain Brook plays in front of a big high school crowd most nights. The fan interest then explodes in the playoffs.
“I don’t know many college teams that are fortunate enough to play in front of 13,000 fans all dressed up in crazy neon,” McMillan said. “I love Mountain Brook.
13,000? Really? I would like to see the building in Mt. Brook that could hold a crowd that large.

An important part of the article to me was the part about how transfer players are important to nearly every major state high school program. I believe "Transfer player" is essentially "recruited player" for programs with the financial resources to make that happen.
I recall when Mailon Kent, Sr. brought in two BB players from Jefferson Christian Academy so his son (M. K., Jr) could play on a competitive team. He was able to place their families in two M.B. apartments he owned while they played their senior season at MBHS. Would that explain why these affluent communities are able to dominate the state playoffs in the top classes of the major state sports?
This aided Joey Jones at the same school as well.

Every F'ing post. It's the same damn thing. Public schools are not legally allowed to recruit players. I'm sure there are some loopholes in this dumb*** state, but those are the rules. Private schools can, and do, and that is why their student body is multiplied by a certain number(something around 1.6 I think??) when determining their classification.

Public schools have been recruiting kids for ages in Alabama, it happens everywhere. Hoover racked off of kids from the West End, Bush Hills, and Five Points West Area all during the Porpst years.

And now since the fruits of their label are coming to bear they want to stop school buses. Thanks for helping build our program, now go back to where you where.

I'm glad one poster can derail every thread for his own personal agenda. GN shouldn't even have to see this crap.

You are correct about the MK affair, which was in no way aided by the bb coach or anyone at the school. It was a case of a daddy using his money to help his son go out a winner. (By bringing your son's AAU team mates to your son's school.)
In the case of Joey Jones being aided by this (outside of the one BB kid who also played FB) you don't have a freakin' clue. He did not recruit players. He was a great hs coach and some kids wanted to play for him so badly, they would move into Mtn. Brook to do so. Didn't happen too often, but it did happen.

Bucky McMillan has a very bright coaching future. It's pretty remarkable that he's been able to win back to back state championships at Mtn Brook. That was unheard of while I was in school.
