Why Can't Tulane Get in the Big XII
Is it fan support? Lack of competitiveness?

RE: Why Can't Tulane Get in the Big XII
The reason that Tulane will not get in the Big XII is because they left the SEC. Tulane shot there wad with that move now they will just have to live with what that wad shot cost them. Was it worth it Tulane.

Yes. Also, who wants to watch Tulane get slobberknockered by Oklahoma?

RE: Why Can't Tulane Get in the Big XII
Tulane is definitely on the Watch List for me. With their academics, recruiting location, TV market and new facilities, they are the type of school that can draw power conference notice with just halfway-decent performance on the field and fan support. Tulane actually has most of the off-the-field factors that power conferences want (and are tougher to obtain) covered.

I agree however, I am highly doubtful of Texas and OU having their fun trip to New Orleans ruined by there only being 30,000 seats available at Yulman Stadium or a stampede of KU fans discovering there are only 3600 basketball seats available for their fun road trip.

Academics (especially AAU status), good TV market, great football recruiting grounds, brand new football stadium, in a contiguous state with current Big 12 footprint.

for similar reasons i think rice would be a great b12 add.
with tulane while they have a new stadium it is pretty small whereas rice has an old stadium but one that is easily up to b12 standards in terms of attendance. on top of that rice has some pretty solid history with the texas b12 schools

Wouldn't you think Tulane could figure a way out to get access to use the Superdome or the Smoothie King Center if they needed bigger venues for a few games?

Tulane was on the list of schools they looked at.
Their 30,000 seat stadium wouldn't be a hindrance to visiting fans. They apparently only fill about 5,000 of those seats themselves.
They don't have the competitiveness in the revenue sports or fan support. And of course, no one would watch them on TV.

If an invite to the Big <12 is hanging in the balance, Yulman would be expanded very, very quickly.
Tulane knows that Devlin Fieldhouse is not adequate. Nothing has been announced, but check back in 5 years and there will be a new venue with a capacity of ~7,000. You'll see.

That was true in the Superdome. Let's check the #s for Yulman after six games, shall we?

RE: Why Can't Tulane Get in the Big XII
Tulane has de-emphasized sports twice in the last 60 years. The first time was when the left the SEC. The did it again in the 80's iirc. Tulane has access to the Superdome anytime they need it. If Yulman is not ready, they will play GT in the dome. The main issue at Tulane is that they know what has to be done to field a competitive football team and they really aren't that committed to do that since it requires admitting people to Tulane that should not be at Tulane. The secondary issue is that they are competing for entertainment dollars in an odd market that is constrained by LSU and the Saints.
Hiding a really dumb jock at Tulane is not very easy as compared to LSU, TAMU, Texas, Ole Miss, etc. The faculty has to be philosophically prepared to deal with that and most of the faculty consider it a blessing not to deal with that. Tulane from a geographic standpoint is a good addition for the B12 or ACC because it puts you in New Orleans and that in and of itself have extreme value. People will watch Tulane as much as they watch Wake Forest, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, or Duke football.
Unlike the issues with UConn, the main issue with Tulane and either the B12 or ACC is that given that Tulane has de-emphased twice in 60 years, will they do it again once they are admitted to a major conference. How committed is Tulane as an organization?

Ugh! I volunteered at a north Dallas community outreach center that accepted Katrina refugees and still remember hearing, "Excuse me! You are not listening. You keep talkin' jobs but we do not work. Just give me my check so I can get my nails done and bag me a rich n****r at the club tonight". And she summed up the majority. Glad most of them were Houston's problem.

A good example of why they will have a very tough time of getting into the Big12 is happening tonight. USM at Tulane in Men's Bball, and USM fans out number Tulane fans 4 to 1.
As long as their fan support is this low, they will be a hard sell.
They do have great academics, a ton of money, and in a great city.

That is fair, and true.
We have to get better on the court, and we have to get more people to show up to watch. Period.
