Rockets played well, but didn't have enough down the stretch. Referees were terrible both ways in the 2nd, IMO. Changed momentum with bad calls several times.

Playing like this, we would have easily beaten WMU and Buffalo, and maybe Akron I think.

Rogers, pretty much single-handedly won the game for BG. She had been shooting 20% from 3 in conference games and was something like 3-4 in the 2nd half. She got several big rebounds too at crucial points. We kept everyone else pretty well in check.

Their point guard was something like 9 for 9 from the foul line with 4 steals. That helps. Also Hoekstra had 4 3 point baskets, about the number of three pointers the rocket team got in the last couple of games,

Clock hits 4 minutes to go and refs determine momentum and we tired. Last game Monakama was playing well and didn't play as much as she should have and today it was Sophia. IMHO

Janice didn't play as much mostly cause she was in foul trouble most of the game. Sophie has a really good first half, I thought, but Krunch was playing well, and you want to put a rivalry game like this in the hands of your seniors.

I think he meant that Janice didn't play as much as she should have the last game, when she was playing so well.

RE: WBB: Bowling Green at Toledo game thread
oops---try again

Very nice defense in the first half; however, in the second half BG got too many open looks from three range as well as a couple of very big offensive rebounds with put backs at crucial points when the outcome of the game was hanging in the balance with about 3:00 minutes to play. The fact that this was a close game until near the end should not hid the fact that BG scored 46 points in the second half, only 2 points fewer that what Akron scored in the first half of that game that had everyone one upset------still (in addition to all those threes), BG racked up a lot of free throws down the final stretch that probably made UT's second half defensive effort look a lot worse than it really was.

Overall, not a bad effort against BG who is one of the top two teams in the conference this year.

I agree that it was a good effort against a superior team. I am not as sure about the differential in defensive effort. I thought that the rockets certainly played a good defensive game but I was of the opinion that it was a similar effort in each half. The difference for me was that BG missed their open looks in the first half (24% FG shooting) and made them in the second half.

Rockets were 1-15 on three-pointers. Over the last two games 4-41. On the season, we are now below 25%. It's hard to win with that kind of shooting. With the great effort and defensive play we were able to make it close today, but we just have to make some shots. When you can't shoot, it creates problems with the whole offense since teams just pack it in defensively.

Cullop said post-game that Recker and Baker may red-shirt. If Recker red-shirts, we will be one over our scholarship limit for 2015, with two verbals already in hand. Either we will have to retract one of our offers for 2015, or we will need to lose someone from the current team or from the 2014 recruiting class.

Someone told me Recker is red shirting for sure. I had not heard about Baker. I wonder if Maria Carson losses her scholly next year. I sure hope nobody leaves. On a side note did anybody think Nelly's defense was awful giving up a lot of threes. I also think she thinks she is Naama when she drives but is just Nelly and needs to know when not to drive or at least when to pass.

I have always thought that Janelle was a bit of a liability on defense due to her size. If they play a zone and a six footer sets up to shoot an outside shot there isn't much Janelle can do. I think that, offensively she has had a pretty good year, probably better than most of us would have predicted.

Ana was mugged on the rebound with her left arm being grabbed - that's why she couldn't control the rebound with one hand. The official must have been looking at the ball and baseline because he or she missed a FOUL!

3 point shooting is a major problem. Only Anna has a good 3 point percentage (34/91, 37%). Janice (14%), Inma (16%), Andola (18%), and Elena (22%) have brutal numbers. And those four players represent 56% of all 3 point attempts. Today BG made 9 3 pointers and we made 1. That's 24 points to be made up from other scoring opportunities. Big hole to overcome.

Ball State lost to Kent State today, which is Kent's first league win. Ball State is 9-11 and also has a losing record in the MAC. They returned nearly everyone from a short bench which was very competitive in the league last year. Does anyone know what has happened to Ball State this year?

You are right. One other question. Why did neither coach use a timeout in first half?? Coach K at Ohio and now both coaches do the same in this game
