IMHO, Folk's has seen this coming for a while. Last few dinners there were fabulous. They have ramped up the experience. The Capital bar, though, cannot be matched. Ruth's will go bye-bye. Last I knew the franchise owner was absentee but that was a long time ago. Interesting to me will be who Capital raided for staff. No idea. (Flemings)

I am too budget conscience to eat at any of those restaurants. I can't enjoy a meal that cost close to, if not more than $50 a person. When I want to spend good money on a fabulous meal, I use my "Buy 1, Get 1 Free" coupon at Texas De Brazil.

We must have a person with Central BBQ connections around. Made a post about not understanding the allure of Central and it got deleted. Kinda strange.

Ate there Sunday before the game. Have eaten there a few times and I just don't get it. Very average and way overpriced for what we got. I know it is personal preference and some people love it, I am just not one of them.

I've had it a few times since being back in town. No complaints. If there's someone doing it better, I'd like to know.

Chopped chicken. Corkys. Chopped pork, Gridleys. Onion Rings, Gridleys. Dry ribs, Corkys or Jacks. My preference. Others have their opinions.

More concerning ribs. I have my preferences for pulled and (if I have to) chopped. Interesting that you mention Jack's. Never tried it and don't hear it mentioned often. I'm assuming Jack's and not Baby Jack's.

I just prefer chopped because it is easier to make sandwiches. Yes, Jacks is different from Baby Jacks. In my opinion, Baby Jacks is a joke, but that is just me. Jacks is a no frills place on Old Summer and they have some very good food. Catfish, BBQ and not sure if they still do, Friday was steak night. Don't expect fancy but the food is very good. They do a lunch buffet several days per week, can't recall exact days.

If you want a BBQ buffet, you have to hit Leonards on Fox Plaza. Nothing they make is the best there is, except the best catfish you have ever eaten, but everything is good. The vegetables are awesome and flavored just right. Lunch everyday and open for dinner several nights. Without a doubt the best buffet in town.

I've heard about that buffet. I'm going to have to check it out some day.

I don't eat Mexican, or any type of Oriental food so I have eliminated many popular choices in my rotation. I am a meat and potatoes guy.

Best steak. Side Porch in Bartlett. Great service and consistent food.
Best home style such as meatloaf and country fried steak. Sweat Peas in Bartlett and one in Olive Branch. Great food and unbelievably reasonable priced.

I try to support the small, independent owned restaurants but I hit the chains every now and then. Love Bob Evans for breakfast and country style dinner.

Colettas BBQ pizza is the best I have eaten.

My job keeps me on the road every day and in various parts of the area. I don't eat at expensive restaurants because there are too many reasonably priced choices to pick from. My wife and I usually pick our restaurant by searching our coupon inventory. If we don't have a coupon or a gift certificate for a particular place, we go to a place where we do.

I'll eat anything as long as it's prepared properly. Really enjoyed Side Porch recently. Wasn't impressed with Sweet Pea's a while back. Don't care for Bob Evans. Looking forward to the BBQ pizza.

I have never been to Sweat Peas in OB. Not sure where you went. My wife and I can eat there for less than $20 and even cheaper when we have a coupon. Excellent hamburger steak and country fried steak and meatloaf. Awesome onion rings. Mom and pop setting at it's finest.

Bob Evans is hit or miss. They run some good specials at times. Great for when one person wants dinner and another wants breakfast. Way better than Cracker Barrel. I won't eat there even if someone else is buying.

Haven't had it in a while, but I loved the Cracker Barrel breakfast. Different strokes. My Mom and Pops are the old Dino's, Barksdale (for breakfast) types. I've tried the Cottage a couple of times for the sake of nostalgia. It just isn't good. Peggy's Heavenly at Cleveland and Peabody may well be the best meat and two or three I've ever had. They definitely don't over feed you, but the food is fresh and excellently prepared.

Speaking of buffets, the Piccadilly weekend breakfast buffet must be a secret. I've only been a couple of times, but waffle station, omelet station, eggs cooked to order and the traditional buffet line. Whatever you want to drink. Anything else you don't see, just ask. All for about $7.

Dinos was good. I believe he actually began that restaurant where Leonards is now on Fox Plaza. You are right about Piccadilly being a secret. I never heard about that. Will have to try the one on Mt Moriah out sometime. The Cottage seems like it went downhill awhile back. I know they have had numerous tax issues and it seems like the cash flow issues have affected service and food. That's just my opinion.

RE: Sad news for Tops hamburger fans
Count me as someone who finds Central to be slightly overrated. I know the owners are huge Tiger fans, which probably explains both their popularity in the area and the deleting of a negative post on this board. The truth is you can get excellent and poor BBQ on any given day from any of the major players in town (Central, Corky's, Commissary, Rendezvous, etc.). I have found Corky's to be the most consistent of the big boys. It's never what I would call excellent BBQ, but it is always at least good. I've had truly inedible ribs at some of the others.

I like the unwritten rule of Memphis BBQ. If the restaurant ships their food on FedEx planes, you are probably at the wrong spot for true Memphis BBQ. Cozy Corner, Paynes, Tom's all sort of validate that rule. I will say that The BBQ Shop in Midtown might be my personal favorite, but I believe they do ship some of their items. If I lived closer it would be my go to spot.

I think Capital Grille will do very well, especially in that location. They simply offer a better product than Ruth Chris or Flemings. My last experiences at Folks Folly were nothing comparable to the food and service you see at a Capital Grille. I do hope they have upped their game, as they are a locally owned place and we want as many of those as possible.

Leonard's has the best damn onion rings in the city.

I don't car that the CBQ folks are Tigers fans. Their ribs are just the best and most consistent in my book. That being said, I'm not a HUGE fan of their sandwich.

The Cottage was really good when I was in college 20 years ago. However, it went downhill at some point. I gave it a couple of final tries the past few years, but I'll never go back again.

They are good. They have some very good okra and pretty much all of the vegetables are really good. A person might not like everything on the buffet, but believe me, you will find plenty to eat that will please your appetite.

I like their buffet a lot, it's just expensive.

I am too budget conscience to eat at any of those restaurants. I can't enjoy a meal that cost close to, if not more than $50 a person. When I want to spend good money on a fabulous meal, I use my "Buy 1, Get 1 Free" coupon at Texas De Brazil.

I've spent $50 per person for lunch at Houston's. Treat yourself. It's worth it. The filet at Capital may top $60 alone depending on how they price this market.
