Southern Miss vs. Tulane (FINAL USM 78 TUL 47)
Tulane (11-10, 3-3, RPI #229)
vs.
Southern Miss (18-3, 5-1, RPI #37)
Looking at Tulane's stats....looks like they have 3 guys who are responsible for the majority of their scoring: Dabney, Stark, and Hook. Drye and Hook seem to be their bangers who get rebounds. I think this game will be similar to Tulane's games versus La Tech and Tulsa....those ended in blow out losses.
My prediction:
Tulane 58
Southern Miss 77

Will probably be like a lot of our games where it's close for a half and then their lack of depth shows up and we pull away late for a comfortable win. Should be favored by 15-18.

Southern Miss by 13. I know I have been critical of our zone which allows teams with good shooters to stay close for a good while in the game, but the press eventually has worn out teams for the most part. The same will happen in this game.

RE: Southern Miss vs. Tulane 6pmET 2/1
So far this season, Tulane has lost games by 30 (SEMO -- Southeast Missouri State from the Ohio Valley Conference), 31 (Kansas State), 26 (Tulsa), and 28 (Louisiana Tech) points. So a blowout loss is something we are painfully familiar with. We also lost by 15 @Wake Forest and by 11 at home vs Washington.
Having said that, we are showing signs of improvement. Not enough to beat Southern Miss, but enough to -- Maybe -- keep the game semi-, quasi-, almost-close. If we can keep it within 8-9-10 pts., I'll consider it a very pleasant surprise.

RE: Southern Miss vs. Tulane 6pmET 2/1
just to break the trend....we lose by 1....
here is to hoping we win by as much as we can due to perceived rhetoric....seriously, not trying to mean to the green, but I hope DT lights a fire and does all he can to generate the largest margin of victory possible.
That's what it's all about in today's get it on asap attitude, right?
at this point in the game, why would we want anything else?
serious sarcasm via txt on a msg board.....sigh

Tulane has 3 guys who can score. They are all guards. Sometimes a freshman forward lends a hand.
And, those 3 guards are the only guards on the roster except for a walk-on. And only 1 can handle the ball well.
So, we are killed by teams with inside games (we have none) and teams that wear down our guards by pressing all game, with emphasis toward blanketing the ball handler.
La Tech did both, thus the mauling. USM looks like they could do both, although I doubt they have the motivation for a pure kill like La Tech did.

USM will be favored 16-20 points.
ODU was favored by 9.
Tech was favored by 12 in NOLA.
I'll go with 17.

I'm hoping for something better than that when it's all said and done, but I admit that is a realistic # based on past performance.

That almost makes it tempting to put $$$ on Tulane because it would be a win-win. If USM doesn't win by 20 then it's a nice payday. If USM wins by more than 20 then it will be money well lost because it means that USM lays a smackdown on the Greenies

I did see one place had it 20.5 and moved it once everyone else posted 19.

If I had to place one...would take the points
not slammin' TU, but I hope we win by 40 just for eye test style value since that appears to have merit with some......
perception is everything in today's world.....we gained a total of one vote/point/(whatever the hell people call it) in the polls after a nice 2 game road sweep
regardless, this game has no rep value unless we lose.....would then fall like humpty

With our pace and inconsistent offense 20 is a big number to cover. We'd need to turn Tulane over quite a bit to get there.

We've covered every game at home. Includes 18.5 against Rice where we won by 22. Only problem with line that big is we tend to back off our press late and teams get some garbage time buckets.

that's exactly why taking the points appears (to me at least) to be the smart play this time....throw in Marshall as the next opponent and not playing since Sunday....just reminds me of the perfect let down scenario
I'm not touching this one....except my arse on some wood chair backs sans Bucky.....just can't do Bucky
keep your head in the game today men and get the job done.....
