ABSO-FREAKIN-LUTELY..THANK YOU!! Walton played almost the entire second half with 4 fouls. To my recollection Kenon stopped getting the ball so much in the post in the second half which could have led to a foul on Walton. I don't know if that was a Bartow call or UCLA's defense just got that much better. Chalmers should never have taken that shot as the Kansas guard was fouled before he got the ball to Chalmers per Calipari's orders. They just didn't want to get an intentional foul called so it had to not be so obvious. But to answer the question, Chalmers shot, because the Tigers were the better team that day.

Rose bumped the Kansas guard all the way down the court and actually knocked him down as he passed the ball to Chalmers.

Chalmers.........not even close.

Walton was a beast, and they just beat us.

You have me beat by probably 2 years in age. I was originally Class of 1969, but with a change in major and transfer in to Memphis State in 1968 extending me beyond 4 years of college, and me having a low draft number that prompted me to enlist for 4 years in the Navy, my eventual graduation was extended to Class of 1975.

If any body has any doubts or thinks that the refs DIDN'T favor UCLA in that game, I have all but about 4 minutes of it on DVD. The refs were biased as hell. There was one call in particular in the second half. Billy Buford was driving to the basket and was hacked by Walton. The referee blew his whistle for the foul. It looked like he was actually gonna call it on Walton, but suddenly turned at the waist and pointed at Keith (Jamal) Wilkes. Couldn't let Big Red get his third foul. That's the truth.05-mafia

To hear some tell it on this board, the refs are never factors in the game and never make calls that determine the outcome. The referees in NCAA basketball are like supreme court justices, they answer to no one and are never questioned, in public anyway. When you are not accountable to anyone, you can do what you please and get away with it. It's unfortunate for the kids playing in these contests that work so hard to make it to a championship game and have that happen to them.

I don't see how anybody can argue that refs don't influence the outcomes of games, in almost any fast moving sport.

I have said in the past that I don't think refs INTENTIONALLY are crooked now, they just make terrible calls that cost teams games, and they have inherent biases toward certain teams and conferences.

HOWEVER, back in the day (the Bradley game in 1957, and the UCLA game in 1973), the refs absolutely were crooked.

Agree on this, except for the NBA.

But as for non-pro sports I have long said that the extreme athleticism of the players has long since outstripped the ability of refs to keep up with the action, both mentally and physically.

Aha---a squid! lol

Due to world events when I graduated in '67, I was pretty gung ho and volunteered as a jarhead soon after that.

But, such was the way of the world for lots of us guys in those days.

It sure sucked a few years after returning home to see Walton handed the "gift of a win over the Tigers.

Fixed, I tell ya.

The refs in Olympic basketball are about as bad as the gymnastics judges.

Yep. Like I said, he virtually tackled him.

Bradley has been on my shhht list ever since

Didn't we smoke them at the Coliseum when they had Hershey Hawkins?

I got home and checked that out. We played them Elliot Perry's first year. Hersey Hawkins came in averaging 41 points a game. We were down 7 with less than a minute to go, and we were able to take them to overtime thanks to 3's by Elliot and McLaughlin. We won in OT and both teams scored over 100. I was there, just didn't remember

Trips Tigers has it 113-108. It was Finch's second year at Memphis. Pretty good team too.
Sidney Adkins G Jr.
Marvin Alexander C Jr.
DeWayne Bailey C Sr.
Steve Ballard C/F Jr.
Dwight Boyd G Sr.
Rodney Douglas F Jr.
Cheyenne Gibson G So.
Sylvester Gray F So.
Ronald McClain F Fr.
John McLaughlin G Fr.
Bret Mundt C Jr.
Elliot Perry G Fr.
John Williams G So.
Russell Young F/G Fr.

You can take Marvin Alexander and Sylvester Gray off your list. This was the first game we had to play after they got suspended. Johnny Mac won the game with a 3 from the corner.

I wasn't that gung ho. I just had a low draft number, exceeded my 4-year exemption for college, and did 4 years in the Navy to avoid getting shot at in the Army or Marines. I had 2 childhood friends, including one I was very close to, die in Viet Nam.

My matriculation delay meant I was still a student when we got robbed in 1973.

Thank you for that. You know, back in the Viet Nam era, people weren't so supportive of the military. There was a lot of unnecessary and unjustified stuff done and said toward a lot of us.

It makes me appreciate the support now, even more.

Of course what really stings is that the three point line was moved backed after the Chalmers shot. That was the last three pointer ever in college basketball where the line was 19 feet and 9 inches.

Unless, didn't we make a three in overtime?

I agree on both, we had the Kansas game. UCLA blew us out the second half and Walton was unstoppable, and the refs gave him a couple of no calls.

A couple? It was downright shameful. The media today would have been all over that.
