Compass Bowl attendance, and harsh reality.
47,717 fans officially showed up for this bowl game, according to ABC 33/40.

Here's the sad thing: About 5K fans showed up for our finale against Southern Miss, a game in which UAB was blown out by a team that had not won a game in almost two years.

What's worse: Our defense, or our fanbase? What exactly do we expect for 2014?

I am not a basketball fan so I don't know much about how UAB basketball is faring. I do know that football is on life-support.

Exactly how bad is it? Or is it going to be just fine? Where do we go from here?

Neither Houston, nor Vandy fans (at least most of them) probably knew what a dump LF really is, until they got there. Anybody can tolerate a bad venue every now and then anyway. Stick Vandy in a bad section of North Nashville, and their attendance would not look so hot either.

By the time we played Southern Miss, our season was already in the crapper. It was the same day as the Iron Bowl. Attendance was dismal. Why would you expect anything else?

On the other hand, UAB football is not by any means dead. We desperately need a winning season, preferably with some good wins early, to put butts in seats, but I look for scheduling announcements soon on seasons going forward. How bad is it really? Depends on who you ask and what goes on behind the scenes that we're not privy to, but I don't have any reason to think that we're anywhere close to done playing football.

I just had a conversation with some Vandy fans in Gardendale. They said that if their team had to play in Legion Field on a regular basis- they wouldn't go to the games. Sad really. UAB had an opportunity to get an on campus stadium and we all know how that went. I'm not sure how we beat the trustees, but I know if we want UAB football to grow and prosper, we've got to get around the scum in Tuscaloosa.

Yeah, but not many of them were contemporaries of their parents' houndstoothed god.

There was an incident recently where an drunk adult lady attacked some college kids at a game.

Looks like the next generation may be a little more civil than the current.

Best part of the Original post. He's not a basketball fan. That means I don't have to read his crap during basketball season.

He didn't really compare a 2-9 team's last game against a winless team on Iron Bowl Saturday to a bowl games attendance did he.

The point I take from today's bowl attendance is that if the team/teams playing are successful, butts will be in the seats. No matter what the venue. So, all UAB needs to do is win.

How does today's attendance reflect on UAB? I'm not getting it...
