There is no doubt that UC-Riv saw that it was going to be a tough haul today without resorting to that type of stuff

Wow, Monty said that? It must've been brutal then. He's not feisty at all.

Odd win for NIU....outrebounded pretty soundly, shot decently (45% for NIU is good), still had less assists than turnovers (though only 9 turnovers, so that's not awful, even if this was a slow game), hit a ton of free throws (27 of 35? MORE of THAT!) but they had the best player on the court (Highsmith, doy!) which was enough today. It helped a lot that UC-R sucks.
What does that say about us if we were underdogs?

I am going to guess that one of them was that guy Patton(no relation to you know who) from Australia. The guy that go the elbow.

well NIU could be in the top 50 percent of RPI with this win, if you are in the top half that's at least an average team

A very kind way to phrase it

Officially three straight is considered a winning streak. What we have is considered either back-to-back wins or consecutive victories.
Didn't you ever watch Major League? As Lou Brown explains prior to an Indian game: "We’ve won two games in a row. If we win tonight, it's called a winning streak."

I know it sounds crazy but niudos could be onto something about next season and a possible MAC run.

RE: Huskies/Highlanders predictions
Anybody that has watched a game knows that we should have a couple more wins, against MAC level competition. Confidence can go a long way and this team has it for now. They will get killed at IOWA ST, but should be 6-6 going into conference. I believe they can go 9-9 in the MAC. I also believe Orris and Johnson will make next year a memorable one.

Sounds like our next marketing motto. "Come to see the basketball team in Dekalb! We suck less than usual!".
Seriously, even against less than good competition I never would have guessed we'd start the season at 5-5. Hope they can keep that up.

Huskies now 165 in the RPI, and have finally cracked the top half of college basketball. That's coming a long way form being almost dead last in RPI last year. NIU has already faced #2 UMass and now get another top 10 RPI team on New Years eve with the #7 Cyclones

I don't care a rabbit turd about RPI this early in the year. It's probably oddly inflated by the blowout loss to UMass, though I'm not going to bother trying to break it down. Watch the games, make judgements.
The Huskies are doing some things better (turnovers are down, useful height and rebounding are up, interior scoring is up, beating bad teams) but they have a long way to go (the offense still dies rather easily on a lot of possessions, they've shot free throws well exactly once, there's certainly more but I'm going off the top of my head).
I'm impressed that they've come out of a stretch of 3 road games with 2 wins, that's nice to see. But I said it before the year, I wanted to reserve judgement until the Huskies get about halfway through the MAC schedule or so.
I'm optimistic for the first time in a while, but anybody can win a few games here or there. Consistency is the key. If I see the offense actually look good for a few weeks in a row (clunkers do happen), then I'll really get exctied.
