We call you various names and talk about your academic and athletic program. You all seem to get upset about it. My favorite is a Houston ULL fan or alumnus that has a two page defense of ULL that he sends to each thread. Here goes.
Your official name is the University of Louisiana at Lafayette or ULL. Your supporters seem to have an inferiority complex in state with the gigantic bemoth LSU A&M a few miles from you. As you know Tulane is the only University of Louisiana created by the Louisiana legislature in the fourth quarter of the 19th century. When it was converted to a private institution by Paul Tulane's major gift the university was converted from a public institution to a private one. The name Tulane was added before University of Louisiana. Our official name is Tulane University of Louisiana.
I feel ULL serves a major role in Louisiana education. I am upset how much your supporters despise and demean LSU A&M,Louisiana Tech and ULM,your twin. Louisiana Tech and LSU A&M are a Tier 1 academic universities by the leading authority that all top college students follow US News and World Report. ULL has been attempting to get to that level for years but sadly remains a Tier Two academic institution. Looking forward to a great football game on the 21st. Our 200 fans in the Superdome as you all like to say on your websites will be there if force. And make a lot of noise. Go Green Wave. Do not take this to seriously this is a smack site!
You say this is only smack talk, but this is the very thing that is continuously posted on other boards. You can't post erroneous information and get away with it by calling it just smack talk. Smack talk surrounding this game is one thing, but this goes on year round. If you know anything at all about our university, you know that our name is a very sensitive issue, so yes we are all defensive. But, you need to read up a little more about UL academically? You will find that we are not a twin of ULM as our names would imply, any more than UT Arlington and UT Austin are twins. LA Tech is at the same level academically as UL. It's Tier 1 stats under USN&WR has them listed at #200, the last place under a revised rating scheme based more so on subjective things like like-ability of professors and percentage of alumni donors to alumni association. But, congrats to them for achieving it. UL is one of the highest ranked schools just below #200? Would we also like to be ranked similarly? You bet. We expect to be there shortly. We dwarf them in endowment, research, enrollment and number of PhDs, the true criteria for academic Tier 1 status which we will achieve before they will. So, don't compare UL to other state schools academically, especially ULM which is a 4 year college with no research, no endowment, decreasing enrollment, and outside of their Pharmacy School has no other academic accomplishments. Tulane is recognized as a top academic institution. Why the need to constantly put down UL using erroneous information, which forces us to have to correct for those reading it? You are a private institution. What we call ourselves and what we accomplish should have zero impact on Tulane, so please enlighten us as to why so much concern about UL?
This is what you get when you debate an idiot! There are not facts involved, just lame typical greem slime smack.
ULL is a tier 2 university, fact. ULL is not the flagship of any system, let alone Louisiana's flagship public university, fact. Prior to 2011, ULL has been a blip on the athletics stage for .... well... ever?
Wanna keep going? I can go after ya athletics budget, conference, endowment, academics... but that's just mean n nasty. :\ But I guess I'm green slime.
No one answered my question in a previous thread. Why does a private school even care what a public university does?
Louisiana is Tier 2 under USN&WR, but so is your fellow conference mate Memphis. We are near Doc 1 status (what really counts) and will be Doc 1 before LA Tech and any other state school other than LSU. Look, we know Tulane is Doc 1 and an AAU school and one of the highest academic institutions in the country. Why the need to attempt to belittle UL in its name and everything else about us with erroneous information. Tulane is the one who comes off looking bad.
Who cares what our record was 30 years ago. It has no relevance to today. Just because Tulane was in the SEC back then and made a monumental blunder to leave the conference, doesn't make Tulane a major force in football today. Under new leadership and a renewed focus on academics and athletics, we are in our 3rd bowl game in a row and beat SDSU and ECU. Just what is Tulane's current accomplishments and relevance TODAY? It is about what we can bring to the future, not what was accomplished in the past. You are building a 26,000 seat stadium, for Christ's sake. What does that say about your future? UL will have a $20M+ athletic budget next year and growing, WITHOUT student fees like your other conference members do. Continued winning, an enlarged stadium, better scheduling, continued bowl games, and a growing RCAF will greatly help to accelerate our funding. And it isn't inflated with the high tuition that Tulane charges. We certainly don't even come close to matching Tulane's endowment (but few schools do), yet we are double ALL of the other UL Systems schools combined. The Lafayette area is now the 3rd largest and fastest growing in Louisiana and has surpassed Shreveport. We have 1.3M residents in Acadiana and over 900,000 within a 40 mile radius of Lafayette and that doesn't include Lake Charles or Baton Rouge. We are not a small market as was previously posted. We have a state-wide radio network in every city except Baton Rouge. Does Tulane? You will find that we have a greater presence in New Orleans at this bowl game than Tulane does and, no, you do not control the New Orleans market. We are on the I 10 corridor between Houston and Tulane, a perfect travel partner. We have a nationally known name in Ragin Cajuns and we are working on a national brand as Louisiana.
We are no threat to Tulane. Why do you and Savacool go on every site and bash us using USL or ULL or U La La? No, we are not the flagship of the UL System. Louisiana State is the designated flagship of the state, so that will likely never be achieved, unless changes occur. But, what does that have to do with anything?
Look, football smack talk is fun and appropriate for a bowl game. Continuous bashing like you two do is not and none of us are going to stand for it. You don't want to call us Louisiana or UL, fine. Call us ULL if you want. We don't make a name issue out of every post that calls us ULL, we just continue to call ourselves Louisiana. It is only when derogatory and erroneous statements continue to be made that we respond.
Best of luck in the N. O. Bowl.
What is our relevance? Not much. We're playing ULL in a bowl game after all.
Why do we bash ULL? It's the smack forum. Duh :) But I'm glad savacool and I are the bad guys and not the comment calling Tulanians slime.
