After This Year, Who is Going to Be Our New Rival?
Mo Egger brings up a very good point today. One of the beauties of college football is in-conference rivalries. We had one in Louisville and although they were not rivalries per se, the games against WVU and Pitt were pretty epic. Who will be our new rival? Memphis? USF or UCF?

We will have Miami, which is a cute, but I think it will take a couple of seasons for something to really develop into a rivalry.

UCF and USF will be each other's big rival. I think it is going to have to be Memphis, personally. I'm sure the conference will try and push UConn and UC for basketball, but I doubt it will work because neither fan base cares about the other... not that UC and Memphis particularly care either.

It will be Memphis. Plenty of history in basketball and they both rate to be top of the conference teams in basketball. We will continue to run them into the ground in football, but hey!, someone has to be the big brother in the rivalry.

Football: Memphis if the program improves enough to beat Cincinnati sometimes. But otherwise I think UCF.
Basketball: Memphis

My vote is for a red hot rivalry renewed with West Virginia as B12 brethren.
Short of that, it's a serious concern not having a good rival closer than a seven hour drive.

Basketball will be fine. It looks like we still will have Xavier on the schedule and games against Memphis and UConn should be big draws. Maybe Temple and SMU will become contenders once Louisville leaves, that could fill the void left by Marquette, Pitt, and few of the solid names that used to appear on our schedule.
I have no idea about football, it probably will change every season. We always Miami (the bad one) to kick around; however, Miami (the one with national championships) should be fun. Ohio State is on the schedule next season too. Our biggest game every season will probably be the name non-conference game every season (Miami FL, Ohio State, Michigan, BYU, Purdue, Nebraska) and the potential conference championship game against the opposite division winner. Memphis, UConn, UCF, USF, Navy, ECU, SMU and Houston are solid draws if they are having a decent season, but I wouldn't considered any of them a football rival yet.

I'm with Indycat - a red hot rivalry renewed with West Virginia as B12 brethren is indeed the rivalry of the future. It will be good for the following reasons:
1) I think this (the Big12) is where we will end up sooner rather than later
2) Ohio and WV share a boarder
3) There is some history there and the proximity of the schools adds to the fact that our fan bases can travel to each location rather easily
4) Nothing gives me as much pleasure as beating WV...other than beating Louisville, OSU, and Miami (OH)...oh and I guess Pitt too.

UCF and UC look like they could be good rivals. They'll have an annual game (AAC Championship Game) and a travelling trophy (AAC Championship trophy).

I want no rivalries in the AAC...
That being said, if we're stuck in this excuse for a D1 conference, I say Temple.

As long as we are in the AAC we won't have a true rival….

For those who are complaining, nobody's forcing you to stay in the AAC. I hear that the MAC is looking for another member. You guys would have plenty of in-state rivals (Bowling Green, Miami, Ohio U, Kent State, Toledo and Akron) and all of your conference games would be within driving distance. They would LOVE to have you.

I bet you would LOVE that...you know as long as we're in American you have no chance to win it.
Hey, maybe Houston would be better off in the Sun Belt. natural rivalries with North Texas, Texas State, UTSA. games would be within driving distance. They would LOVE to have you.

That would have been funny if
1. You guys actually won the AAC.
2. If UNT and UTSA were even in the Sun Belt.
