See, here's the thing, we are doing this year exactly what you guys did last year. Exactly the same thing. However, when you guys did it, it was great. When we do it it's meaningless. This is why people hate you, you make no sense.

^^This made me laugh.

Anyway, congrats ECU on a fine season so far.

No, every poll on earth their is says we have had a superior season and as little as you have done you will have a hard time catching us even if you did beat us.

Quote:And by the way, ECU fans, spare us the talk of "winning out" and getting a preseason ranking next year. You've got one hell of a lot of work ahead of you in the next 10 days. Next Friday is BY MILES the biggest test of the season, for both teams. Absolutely no rational person is going to step up and start making strong predictions on the outcome of Marshall/ECU. Doing so is proof of moronism.

What you mean like that 38-0 win over MTSU YOU predicted? 07-coffee3 total gold prediction man.

Quote:These are the two best teams in the conference, and very few people would dispute that. It'll be settled in a little over a week. Until then, anyone trying to spew that one team is necessarily the better is delusional. And rankings mean exactly dick to a game like this.

Rankings are a measure of the season. We have had a much better one, that's what it means.

Quote:Here's a question. If ECU and Marshall win this week, and then Marshall wins next week over ECU, I think there is a good chance ECU will still be "ranked" ahead of Marshall. Would you delusional jackasses still contend you are better than Marshall? Just a thought, because this COULD happen.

We'd still have had the better season. We have good OOC wins already superior to anything you will have, and already beat teams you lost to as well. You need our win just to make your 70+ ranked team relevant, so regardless we could still end up having the better season. 07-coffee3

RG - Hamlin..................Stephens
RT - Anderson...............Anderson

So, let me apologize. Johnson did play and make it through the game, but Anderson was injured in the first quarter of the ECU game so we were without 4 of our 5 starters.

We have been without multiple WR's all season which has limited our big play capability. Saying you should've beaten us is absurd. We out gained you in total yards 511 to 334. If anything it should've been much more of a 1 TD game if not for our inability to execute in the redzone. Which is also why we lost to Tulane.

Wide receivers are a dime a dozen. Offensive and defensive line not so much. You outgained us because we couldn't run the ball as I already point out.

Hell, we had to take out our starting QB against North Texas because we needed a running QB with all of our OL injuries.

Perhaps saying should have won is a bit strong, but our defensive gameplan worked and held your offense to its second lowest scoring total of the season only behind Virginia TEch. Just think what might have been if we would have been able keep you off the field more and sustain drives better.

But of course like most ECU fans you missed the broader point. Healthy we almost lost to Marshall and at our most unhealthy point of the season we almost beat ECU. Just one anectdote why this game is a toss up and whoever plays best that night comes out on top.

Not the kind we have in this offense.

You can dream up whatever you want bro. That's been the MO on this board for the CUSA 3.0 teams to never wanted to give us any credit in the preseason and even to this point. You guys have wished, hoped and spun that Marshall was going to have the better year then us this year now with mutual teams we beat and they lost to. You are still holding on to the last threads.

ECU #36
Marshall #73

Carden is now 13-2 vs CUSA as a starter and none of those losses were to any of the CUSA 3.0 teams or Marshall. It is what it is.

Now, you 're just making stuff up. Please show me where I have said, hoped, "spun" that Marshall would have a better year.

In fact, I just freaking told you I'm picking ECU to win. So, who is the spinmaster again?

It's the vibe on this board. You guys have been against us from day one, which you should, but the arguments of why Marshall would have the better season were always weak.

Generalizations are dangerous. You haven't heard that from me. I've thought ECU was the best in the league since week one, but I'm not your average emotional fan. I''m fairly objective. Even when we suck I admit it.

Sorry, I put this in the wrong thread earlier....

Can't we all just get along 03-banghead . Let our game decide who is the better team. Both our schedules suck horribly, neither of us have any significant wins. Can we just celebrate that we both are going bowling and have a drink? 04-cheers

We don't have to. We have already had a superior season by just about anyone that grades these things and you need to upset us to even have a relevant season. It would take a complete meltdown to not finish with the better ranked season at this point as little as you guys have done.

Ha! And so the excuses begin! SJ is already setting up his argument that ECU has "had the better season" when Marshall wins next Friday.

IF, you upset us, and it would be an upset for a team ranked almost 40 spots behind us to win. It's not an excuse, it's reality. Good teams get upset every year and go on to have the better season than the teams they lost to. It's all you sad sacks would have to show on this season.

Unless I missed something, then the game was still pretty evenly matched because ECU was without it's first string nose tackle (Terry Williams) and an inside linebacker (Jeremy Grove) in that game. So it all comes out in the wash. The problem as I recall in that game was not your OL, it was your defense getting gashed; but just like Tulane they buckled down against ECU on the goal line. That was a good game.

RE: ECU ranked 32nd in Coach's poll
It was a good game.

I'm not sure gash is the right word. It took 98 plays to get those 500 yards. The plan was let ECU have the underneath stuff and see if they could do it all the way down the field without screwing up. For the most part that worked. The reason why the line was so important is that strategy works a lot better if you can keep your own offense on the field. MT averages 5 yards per carry but only managed 2.8 YPC against ECU. The ECU defense deserves credit for locking us down but for the most part you did so against the second team OL.

Even with the line problems we still could have given ourselves a chance if we could have played better on third downs but ECU's offense was just too good on those 3rd down plays for us.

Dude. We beat you and we destroyed a team that destroyed you, you beat Marshall. You shouldn't have won our game or lost to Marshall. If you had it would have been an upset where as you and Marshall are actually very close caliber teams.

Not if they lose in the Championship game. At the end of the day they likely would still finish behind us even if they did win the Championship game as little as they have done this year otherwise and being almost 40 spots back, you don't just make that up late in the season by upsetting us and beating North Texas.

We can get a bowl match up as attractive as Vanderbilt most likely in the Military and most of our fans would rather go there. Winning CUSA is no prize this year as horrible as it has been and as unattractive as the Liberty Bowl match appears. When they get a win over one or two BCS schools including one that will be in a bowl most likely then they might can talk. They have 4 total in their entire history. That's more of an accomplishment than winning CUSA as god awful as it's been this year. Seriously this conference's third best OOC win is likey a transitional FBS school that we beat.

Upset? Marshall will be a 3-7 point favorite going into the game. It will be an upset if ECU wins. Luckily it's only 6 days before the official line comes out and you'll see.

You really don't get it do you. It doesn't matter who you destroyed, who is favored, what's considered an upset or whatever. It's all about matchups. We matched ECU and had a chance to tie the game in the 4th qtr with a patch work OL. I'm sorry for you that somehow damages your fragile ego or hurts your pride.
