It's Official: ECU vs. Marshall will be for the east crown
There is zero chance that Marshall loses to FIU & even if ECU loses to UAB (also zero chance) ECU would still control its own destiny. Consequently, what everyone thought would be the case has come to fruition, ECU vs. Marshall is gonna be winner take all.
What a great way to end this rivalry (for the foreseeable future anyway) & now that it appears to be an imminent certainty, it seems appropriate to have a new thread about it. However, even though it may be impossible, lets at least attempt to keep these posts rational (meaning that all explanations on why either team will win should be bolstered by sound, principled logic and a concerted effort at objectivity).
This game will be epic & both sides will be jacked out of their collective minds. Who will handle the pressure better? How important is home field advantage for Marshall? ECU seems like the more disciplined team but Marshall can be an offensive juggernaut, particularly at home. I give Marshall the slight edge offensively if they can hold on to the ball but I give ECU the slight edge defensively. I think this game will come down to coaching (game planning & in game adjustments).
Overall, I think that ECU is a better team but that is essentially nullified by Marshall's home field advantage, which makes this a toss up. With everything on the line, this game will be must see.
Marshall's never been a champion in C-USA (not even divisional). ECU has several and are the defending co-champs of the east, so no matter what kind of potential Marshall may or may not have, they have to prove it on the field to us. No more preseason championships, no more message board championships, this is gonna be real big boy football for a championship. To be the man you have to beat the man. ECU is gonna come up to Marshall's doorstep with the intention of busting that bubble that they've been living in. Will Marshall finally rise up and become champions or will ECU's championship pedigree shine the brightest?
& please NT fans don't be biased in favor of Marshall because you want to host and the rest of the conference please be objective even though you don't like ECU fans and our team because some of us are pompous pricks & we're leaving C-USA. Objectivity!

UAB has played ECU tough in the past. This year, I'd be shocked. Our defense is a sieve, and our offense is not built to play in shoot-outs. I'd be shocked if UAB kept it within 3 scores.

You don't still have the Shed do you? That guy owned us.

Jordan Howard is top freshman rusher in the country IIRC. He can't play defense, though.

Shed is gone, but as Belief Blazer just pointed out we have Jordan Howard and still have Reaves. They might gash you guys for 200 yards combined, but you won't care when you win the game 55-17.

If the game were in Greenville with how we play at home and how Marshall plays on the road I'd favor us by 2 TDs. However that's not the case and Marshall is a completely different team at home and other than then UNC game we have stunk on the road. I think we win but who knows.
