OK...but seriously...by my count, we already had 5 verbals for next year's class of freshmen...I know verbals are "soft", so did we lose someone? Did we find someone better? Do we somehow actually have 6 schollies available? Or, is someone transfering--or, is this Mariah Carson's athletic scholarship, and we're finding some other way to keep her on scholarship even though she is medically unable to play again? Curious!

That's my guess that it is Carson's spot, unless one of the other verbals has backed out.
NCAA division I women's basketball teams have 15 scholarships. We have 9 underclass women (including Carson) on scholarship which leaves 6. I think once Carson was declared medically unable to play that her scholarship opens up also although she still receives the benefit.

Thanks for the info, RocketElvis! It slipped my mind that last year's class ended up being a "bust" in terms of who's still here, so I just figured we had more than 9 on scholarship...should've done the math!
I see that this new Rocket is a former teammate of Monakana's...I'm hoping that if she's really a "true" point guard, that she is closer to the 6' than the 5'10"...don't see many of those in MAC womens play.

Actually, I believe we have 10 underclasswomen, including Carson and Harris. So, to sign 6, I believe that means that Carson's scholarship is open. Remember that she redshirted one season, so this is her 4th year at UT and she could be graduating this spring anyway, which would obviate the need to keep a scholarship spot open for her.

We had five ladies graduate last season and three freshmen left the program...that opened up eight scholarships ...five freshman were signed and are playing now...that left three open for the future....there are currently three seniors on this years team plus Carson, who is on a one year renewable scholarship...if past practice is followed when there is a career ending problem...she will keep hers for this season and lose it for the next season.....so the three carry over from previous freshmen leaving plus the three current seniors and Carson's...gave the program seven for next season....the six recruits and Harris...now my head is spinning!
