There is a very robust Face Book post about the recent BG game. Many posting are past UToledo Rocket players This is a post that Marcus Godwin, former player, made in rebuttal to a Coach Candle supporter who calls detractors "fake fans"...very interesting...

"I would not call it fake fans. Many on here commenting are former players that have won championships and played for coaches such as Nick Saban Gary Pinkle Dean Pees Tom Amstutz I see bowl game MVP and all conference players in here. It is not fake when we repeatedly have the same coaching errors that cost us games over the past few years like WMU the last game fake hot the ball play, that loss had nothing to do with that play it was poor clock management throwing the ball late instead killing the clock. Some will be excited because we got the first down but for real we win if we run the clock and kick the field goal. How about being in man against notre dame then in cover two in the red zone with one of the nations best tight ends. Or the untimely penalties or mental errors when execution is essential. How about the delay of game coming straight from break and then the having to rush the snap to avoid the same penalty on the very next series. I can go on forever. Usually the worst teams with penalties are the worst coached teams. We win because we have players. The credit for recruiting goes to the rich foundation and and talent of players and facilities Toledo didn’t just recently become the top choice in the MAC. It has always been that way. Candle may be a good guy but he is not good at strategy, in game adjustments, corrective actions , discipline and structure. We win and are in games because we usually have better talent we lose because of coaching tell me a game since Candle has been there that we can honestly say we loss that one because we were out played Miami and OSU yes but all the others we loss because Of poor motivation poor performance not being prepared not being able to make adjustments and not being able to manage the game and or the clock to close out games. Heck forget about the past there are three this year alone. UT has and will continue to compete for championships. With it without the candle it’s time to blow it out and move on. The kids the university and the former players deserve better. The kids on that team will probably remember that loss more in 30 years than they will the Ship if we show up to take care of that game. That was a rant."
Everything he says is accurate. Interesting that I just got an email today asking for additional donations. Until this problem is corrected, there will be no additional donations. I suggest that all contributors take the same position.

The university president and our new AG have to recognize that there is a real problem here. Sending a message with our pocketbooks may make sure this stance is heard by the people in positions of authority.

The student fanbase, future alums, who have been tremendous , definitely deserve better.

Corey Jones was the main player defending Candle. Also some others who played on those Candle OC, Campbell 2015 team. His main point was how loud and quick that anti-Contingent is when they are silent or still negative during the many wins this program amasses. Both are real points.

I still choose to enjoy every game, even when losing because we know the talent and want is there from the current players. "Fu&% Candle!" after every play EVEN AFTER WIDE OPEN DROPS BY WR'S is just the flat wrong time to say that. We run 1st down plays which can get us 6 yards to the boundry and flat out drop it. Candle schemed that open. Candle schemed 4-4 on 4th downs. He deserves credit for that WITH demise of odd playcalls which fail from the jump...Our OC called a game where we outgained the opponent. 10 of 11 games that has been so! Flip it on the defense and special teams. Whenever we figure out penalties or something , another random trope bites us. Thats incredibly frustrating! But how the F does a coach deal with that?? Players forgetting one bad thing for another?

Ball security and bad punting/fg kicking has hurt us this season more than any season in recent memory. Those guys need to step up. If you cant rely on kickers in every big game to nail 38 yarders, or INTS on your own side of the field... I fail to see how thats the coaches problem. But i see the playcalling woes or anomolys and lack of OLine improvement (although they looked good a meer 2 weeks ago)... is something that needs attention come this off season.

The worse coaching thing Candle did was not burn the red flag on BGs fumble on the 2nd to last BG offensive play. We win if that happens. Frustrating, frustrating. Thats MACtion.

I’m not giving the D a pass. They have cost us 3 of our 4 losses, giving up game-losing drives to SDSU & BGSU and not even showing up for the entire 4th quarter against Buffalo.

So much hype about this program that just isn’t matched by reality. Hopefully they don’t rest everyone & lose to WMU; winning up there, then in Detroit, and finally in a bowl game would go a long way to salvaging this (and Candle). But my bet is we go no better than 1-2 in those 3 games.

I fail to see how thats the coaches problem.

Then why have coaches at all?

There's so much illogic in that thought process, it's just a debate as to why we even have coaches. If there's thought that coaches do not matter, then there's no reason to be paying this one what he's paid. Any other will do just as well.

Of COURSE on field mistakes are on the coaches. That's where the buck stops. The coaches are the ones that are supposed to teach and train players so those brain farts do not happen. The coaches are the ones that are supposed to have the teams ready to get on the field.

Does Loeffler not get credit for BG's win? Then of course Candle gets the credit for the mistakes and the loss and it is reasonable that under a different coach, those players are better trained and better prepared and do not make these repeated mistakes. Of course, a different coach could do worse. Would Corey then say, it wasn't that coach's fault?

His thoughts strike me as being more from loyalty. Maybe he has responses to the questions I pose about responsibility that would support his statement better, but he's not here, is he?

Even winning coaches get the boot, if they are not winning enough and in the right way and against the right teams.

Candle is not winning against even the better MAC programs. Its not even close to .500. He's paid to do that. Calls for him to improve or go have a legitimate base of reason. Calls for him to simply go after as long as he's failed to show ability to adjust, have a legitimate base of reason.

Private group. I never played. I do not need to see it. They deserve their own spot
You're not missing much...it's not very active. Interesting to see Corey Jones refer to Marcus Goodwin as "you old guys" LOL...I'm one of the Old Guys I guess.
