With the deadline approaching, apparently Lester is turning heads in private workouts. At one point, he went 84-100 from three.

He has shot himself into possibly a second round pick. I say come back to campus and shoot yourself into the first round!
Go Lester!

There is virtually no realistic scenario that results in Lester being a 1st round pick. He simply does not have the speed and athleticism for someone to use a 1st round pick on him. That does not mean it is impossible for him to make an NBA roster at some point but his career will start in the G League or overseas and then proving himself onto an NBA roster.

With that said he is a fantastic college player and I hope for selfish reasons he removes himself from the draft and plays another year in a Tiger uniform.

If you are going to be drafted then I think you gotta go unless you think you can play yourself into a top 15 pick. NIL does change that a little bit because before you'd stay in draft because even if you end up in G-league at least you're getting paid while you're getting better vs. college where you couldn't. With NIL now the money (G-league money, not NBA) is more competitive but you still have to at least do some semblance of school work which I know I wouldn't be jazzed about.
Someone’s gotta say it:
We’re talking about practice.

But I’ll always root for Lester!
Le$ters work ethic is off-the-charts....He will impress and become a commodity to almost any team in some sort of capacity....Even more-so than.....I would readily watch the developement of Les' professional career....Him dawning an nba uniform would be epic, as I know what he has done to get there.....JM....if he pops up anytime soon, it will be a total surprise.....Kid needs lots of developement03-shhhh
Lester will benefit more than anyone on the planet from having Davis. He will have so many open looks and he is going to be deadly. IMO, he is a very good college player but there is no way anyone drafts him if the draft is 4 rounds. He can't get his own shot, literally ever at the college level. He hasn't beaten anyone off of the dribble in 3 years.
He's really close to being the 3+D rotation guy. But he does have limitations due to speed/quickness.
In the past, I've seen NBA teams tell this type player to stay in the draft - then they do and don't get drafted.

If he has worked himself into a 2nd round pick.

And there is no way he can make himself a first-round pick.

Then why should he return?

He shouldn’t if he knew he was going to get drafted with a guaranteed contract. I don’t think you can depend on that if you got a low second round grade though. So many foreign players I’ve never heard of start popping up.

Isn't today the decision day deadline for those wishing to stay in the draft? I was figuring we'd hear by today what guys like Lester will be doing. Would love to see him return for a final season. He's been one of my all-time fave Tigers.

In the past, I've seen NBA teams tell this type player to stay in the draft - then they do and don't get drafted.

Klay Thompson/Kris Middleton aren't necessarily fast/quick either and these players are filling a nice role in the league...Lester has increased his athleticism and shown he's willing to work at it...He'll get his shot

They are not fast/quick perhaps by NBA standards. Lester is not fast/quick by college standards.

Klay and Kris are also both elite defensively and elite scorers... There is no planet by which Lester compares to them in any manner.

If you are looking for an NBA comparison, perhaps someone like PJ Tucker is a role Lester could fill. He is still a lot thinner than PJ but basically a phenomenal defender because of effort and then a stand in the corner knock down 3 player on offense.

It does not sound like he is a guaranteed 2nd round pick. Even if he is then it is not a guaranteed contract. He can make NIL money in college, finish his degree (if he hasn't) and possibly play himself into a higher 2nd round pick.

Or he can go play G League ball or somewhere overseas. I know nothing about his personal life or finances. So, which is the better option for him is not for me to decide or judge. But from the outside looking in there does not appear to be an obvious "best decision" as opposed to someone like Jalen Duren who clearly being the NBA draft is the best decision for.

Yout argument should be transversed, Lestwr is further away from PJ Tucker than the aforementioned "guards"....Tucker is a "power forward" that has the ability to guard smaller positions
Lester will go undrafted but likely has a promise from a team. Look for him to be signed quickly after the draft.

I think that's a likely scenario. It comes down to a decision for Lester: Do I want to get paid in college, or paid in the pros?

Not a bad dilemma.

Let me welcome you to basketball in 2022. Players play roles, not positions in this era... Lester's role on an NBA roster would look much more like PJ Tucker than Kris Middleton or Klay Thompson...
He has relentless tenacity....that desire will drive one once a door is opened.....BOH
Seems to me like an NIL push of some sort. There is no way he gets drafted.
