Uninformed people in Memphis think everything negative is unique to Memphis and everything good about Memphis common

It's everywhere. I opened the door for a lady a few weeks back, and she snatched the door out of my hand, and told me she could open the door herself. I couldn't believe it.

yeah that is just silly. I hold the door open for women and men. Sometimes women or men hold the door for me. I say thank you and walk through.
I've never heard or read anything particularly overly negative about him in the online papers or on the radio. Perhaps from message boards but I don't read every post but could see that being the case. What is ironic I have read some posters say in regards to a player or a recruit that what fans say on message boards doesn't make difference. If msg boards are part of Alo's issue then it seems to disprove the narrative that fans opinions do not have an effect on players/recruits.

They're going to be scrutinized...if they play well...everyone in Memphis loves you and you are a rockstar. Play poorly...and you might as well be booking your next plane ticket to Siberia.

That's the case for every sports team. Memphis is no different than being than playing QB for the Oklahoma Sooners and being a power hitter for the Yankees.
This is probably the first time Alex Lomax is dealing with adversity in his life. He's never dealt with the adversity growing up playing middle school, AAU, and High School ball at East. The toughest thing for him is that he see this stuff off social media. He can hear it, and see. It also doesn't help when the team had an embarrassing lost at Tulane was partially on him. Then, he doesn't play at Wichita State and we won a Quad 1 game (now Quad 2).

I always thought the best thing for Alex Lomax was to transfer. He hasn't improved much from his freshman year til now. Also, he needs to learn the game from another coach. He needs to hear a different voice. He's 21/22 years old and Penny has coached him since middle school, which is 10 years? I always thought it was a time to move on and go play for a Bruce Pearl (giving him an example). We've had a lot of players transfer out, but right now, he's being a slave to loyalty.

In 2019, remember when Brady White got boo'd against Navy in the first half. Well, he shut us up by having 3 touchdown passes in the second half. Alex has just got to play better.

Boogie Ellis transferred to USC and is player better. He's shooting 46% (40% at Memphis) and is averaging about 2 more Points Per Game, 2 more rebounds per game, and 1.5 more assists per game. He's also shooting 74% at the line compared to 66% at Memphis.

Damoin Baugh transferred to TCU and is playing better. Over 2X as much points as he did at Memphis. Field Goal percentage is up 3% to 44%, about two more rebounds and assists per game. He's up to 83% at the free throw line this year compared to 68% at Memphis.

I appreciate his Loyalty to the city. I appreciate the fact he tried to win the fans over by changing his number to 10. I appreciate the fact that he's trying to stay relevant. Because he hasn't improved as a player, and he knows that his career has been a disappointment because we haven't been to the tournament. However, the slander will continue if he doesn't play well when he does return.

same here ---whoever is next, I hold the door. whoever is having trouble I get the door. I thank anyone who holds it for me.

no but just because everyone is doing it doesn't make it all right.

'Comeone, mom, be a sport. Everybody's snortin coke'
It's so nice of us to provide this growth for our players. lol. They will be thanking us later!

Seriously, I'm glad you guys are stepping up.

Y'all never change. I never change, though I'm outnumbered 10-1.

Are we bored yet.
(Thinking as a parent with a son in college): I would tell my son to delete all social media accounts and concentrate on what the coach is asking him to do. Focus and learn what it takes to be a winner. Going somewhere else is no guarantee that he will not get the same treatment at the new school. Running from adversity hinders maturity.

As an example, I'm a white male. That means I'm a racist, a white supremacist, have toxic masculinity, a misogynist, etc. etc. We are hated just because of our existence. It gets on my nerves, but F it. There's nothing I can do about it. It's a them problem, and not a me problem the way I look at it. I'm just trying to re-do my kitchen and watch a ball game.

Players need to not get on social media if they can't handle it. It's toxic. The very thing that was supposed to make the world a better place, has made it worse.

Were we always this bad? Probably. Did social media make it worse, or did it just expose us?

Could you self-persecute yourself any harder? What a cuckold.

How so? I'm using myself as an example. I didn't do anything. Someone else did like yourself. You think I haven't read your useless drivel before.

People like you always a problem. Never an answer.

Because it's utterly ridiculous to think 'everyone else' hates you based on your race, gender, identity.

It's, at best, a Holden Caulfield-like delusional state of grandeur, or at worst, the seeds of some real heinous self-persecution that turns revolutionary.

Are there people out there that think of you that way? Sure. And no, you don't have any control over terrible people like that. But to completely wall yourself behind some defense that everyone hates you for being white makes you little better than them.

First time dealing with adversity? Lomax father went to prison and he had no parental influence other than his coach.

Ellis and Baugh are seeing the exact kind of progress you expect to see in 3rd year guys. Some numbers per 40 are better than previous, some are worse.

Cisse has at best stayed flat, possibly declined, in his transfer. Same for Jeffries.

Not sure your point in bringing up 2 and avoiding the other 2.
The rudest people I have encountered in the land of retail are first of all, female. Second of all, white. Third, between the ages of 45 and 55. Fourth, heterosexual. Fifth, from Redding Cali And believe you me there are some real doozies.

Isnt it like 99.9999 percent white there?

Population wise, yes. But 'they' are not counting the Hmong And Chinese slave labor brought in to grow cannabis. (about 1000 green houses in the northenmost part of the county, though some burned down in the most recent fires)

Mt Shasta (Sacred Mountain) is a heavy tourist attraction for all sorts of spiritually driven seekers. We get them non white foreigners from around the globe. There are many brown and yellow ones. And let it be known that I really don’t consider the Eastern Europeans white— though they present as such.

Plus we’re on Main Street lol and many retail stores have gone out of biz.
Football player chooses bball and can't take the heat. Probably should've worked on his craft or stuck with football.

Probably would've faired better with football anyways. Short and only plays defense.

Btw, can anyone name a top college PG who took his team deep in the tourney with a game similar to Alo's with such lack of offense? I can't think of one....

I honestly believe there are two overriding issues with Penny and ALo.

I believe that Penny may have guided ALo to focus on 1 sport, basketball, and drop the other, football and now feels responsible for his career trajectory.

I also believe Penny sees ALo through parent goggles and truly believes ALo is more capable than he really is.

Bill Laurie ‘73 was smaller than Lomax but had very similar stats his senior year. Of course everyone was smaller and the game has changed a tiny bit.
