RE: Alex Lomax Dad
I agree nobody should take personal shots at players, but today everything is personal.

As an example, I'm a white male. That means I'm a racist, a white supremacist, have toxic masculinity, a misogynist, etc. etc. We are hated just because of our existence. It gets on my nerves, but F it. There's nothing I can do about it. It's a them problem, and not a me problem the way I look at it. I'm just trying to re-do my kitchen and watch a ball game.

Players need to not get on social media if they can't handle it. It's toxic. The very thing that was supposed to make the world a better place, has made it worse.

Were we always this bad? Probably. Did social media make it worse, or did it just expose us?

And I assume it is due to our great fanbase.

Wouldn’t blame him at all. There are a lot of posters who have made cruel remarks about this young man. And, yes, there is a difference between discussing a basketball game and hurling personal insults at one of our players.

Yes

The personal ugliness and even some of the style of basketball criticism were shameful

But many are proud of doing that, as though being an abject ******* makes you tough while being reasoned yet still passionate about Memphis makes you soft

Haven’t read this whole thread but can guess that this post I’m replying to received the ugly treatment

Anyway, many of our social media fans barf up this wadded ball of their own unprocessed emotions on players and coaches. And these bulimic fans get off on it. The coaches try to run interference, ignore it, speak openly about it and/or take the blame. But fans will not be denied.

Generally speaking, they pick one player. When he's gone they choose another. like clockwork. clockwork blue.

I think these fans should be lobotomized. I can see no other solution.

RE: Alex Lomax Dad
Most competitive athletes I grew up with actually gained strength from folks who questioned their on-field/on-court performances. Nothing quite so sweet as to prove the doubters wrong.

Heck, I remember getting severely heckled all the time by opposing team parents when I pitched in competitive baseball at the ripe old age of 11. The feeling of striking out the son of one of those loudmouth parents was incredible...it really fired me up.

Point is, while some players might get miffed for a perceived lack of playing time, I really doubt there are many modern athletes playing in major college sports who get butthurt by knuckleheaded fans mouthing off about their performance on a message board. 03-lmfao

There wasn’t as much fan entitlement sans personal responsibility when we grew up, sheesh! the next thing you know Tiger fans will be thrusting their blue water bottles and hurling their golf balls onto the field and court …

Exposed innate behavior by giving the masses a platform to share opinions.

Back to Lomax, this isn't pee wee ball. It's high major D1. I don't feel bad for sharing my thoughts that he isn't Memphis good. I wish him well, but the Tigers are a better team without him.

I also said from the minute he was held out due to "injury" that I wasn't buying it. It was a made up excuse that allows Penny and Alex to save face. Whatever the case, I think the team is better when he doesn't play. More minutes for Timberlake and Minott.

I've been telling my wife that the advance of social media and the instant access to the internet provided by cell phones will lead to the death of civilization as we know it. I know - maybe a little hyperbolic, but still.... And, the answer to the bolded question (in my estimation) is definitely made it worse.

As for Alo, I try not to get on players too much, but I am guilty of stating that how he does some things just drive me batty, and he hasn't grown or improved as a player since he arrived. And who's fault is that? His coach, clearly. Penny has let him play that way from the beginning, and apparently doesn't feel that Alo needs to improve. On the other hand, Alo has been riding on the coattails of Penny as he moved up, and hasn't been made to improve his game so he has coasted from junior high to college with his skillset. If he was competitive and had to fight for his spot, he might have worked harder to improve.

If Alo wants to go somewhere else, good luck young man. It might be the best thing for him.

Why would he sit Lomax immediately after they had a great game with him.

You might be right --but wouldn't that mean that Penny really thinks that Lomax is not TIGER good---or hurting the team---or costing us wins ----why would he tell Alo to go win the game with 7 seconds ? left 2 games ago ?

Point being Penny has shown faith in Lomax for years as a TIGER---by saying he is saving face by not playing Alex --says that he suddenly knows/thinks that Alo is hurting the team ----but just 2 ? games ago he trusted Lomax to win the game at the buzzer

So for the last 4 years Penny knew Lomax was hurting the team and costing the TIGER wins and played him anyway ---or it took Penny 4 years up until 2 games ago to finally realize it

Either way if you are right and Penny is sitting Lomax so they both save face ----its not a good look for Penny- ...(A) Penny played him knowing/believing/thinking Alex is costing the TIGERS wins for 4 years and played him anyway...or (B) took him 4 years to up until just 2 games ago to catch on

Again you might be right about sitting him to save face for both --but I am not buying it ---I think Alo will play again and play major minutes -------JMO

For the most part I agree with his dad. Penny has set ALo up for failure over and over his entire college career. I am sure Penny thinks he is giving ALo opportunities, but when the demands are more than the player can handle it isnt an opportunity it is a set up for failure. Like the game winning shot the other night.. why put him in that position?

The only way Penny failed that kid was by believing in him and giving him starter minutes every year when he shouldn't have.

How so? I'm using myself as an example. I didn't do anything. Someone else did like yourself. You think I haven't read your useless drivel before.

People like you always a problem. Never an answer.

Not trying to be combative/argumentative --but do you think, Penny thinks, that he made a mistake by giving him starter minutes for 4 years ?........and if he does think he made a mistake for 4 years--what does that say/signal ?

Penny/The Staff failed Lomax by not requiring him to improve on his weaknesses.

You cant tell me he has been grinding in the off season to get better yet is still afraid to take a 15 foot jumper. That is where they failed him.
