37-2 in 2019
62-27 in 2013
70-14 in 2008.

That 2013 game was maybe the absolute low-point of our program, when we hit bottom with McGee in what thankfully turned out to be his last game. USM had lost 23 straight games coming into that game--they were 0-12 the year before, and 0-11 when they came to Legion Field, and then they beat us like a dog.

And the 2008 debacle was hard to swallow. I had hopes we might beat them, but we were down 28-0 by the end of the first quarter and something like 49-7 at the half. They hit 70 in the third quarter, and were merciful not to go for triple digits. Classic Callaway

My point exactly.

The 2013 game remains the only game I've ever been so disgusted by that I left before halftime.
If there is ever a year for UAB to destroy Southern Miss, it is this year. This Southern Miss team has been snakebit at the QB position and is really bad on the OL. The initial starter, at QB Trey Lowe, was injured and is out for the year. This injury occurred as he was taking a knee on the final play of the first half in Game #2. A lineman stepped on his foot and fractured it.

Then Ty Keyes, a highly regarded strong-armed athletic true freshman, entered the game to start the 2nd half. He really wasn't ready and needed a redshirt season and a spring of development, but was thrown to the wolves. He looked OK in the 2nd half vs Grambling, but then completely overwhelmed the next week vs Troy. In Tuscaloosa, he had a pretty good game and looked much more comfortable than he had the week before against Troy. At Rice, he was tackled from behind on the very first offensive play of the game. He stayed in the game for the rest of that possession, but couldn't move well or put any pressure on that right ankle. He threw an INT to end the first drive and did not return. He was in a cast this past week vs UTEP and it is not known if he will be back before the season ends. Keyes has only played in 4 games and is eligible for a redshirt.

Tee Webb is a transfer QB from Louisville, who many fans expected to compete for the starting job. He had been the #3 QB at the beginning of the season (would have been the #4 QB if not for an injury to on the throwing hand to another QB) until the week of the Rice game. Jake Lange beat out Webb the week of the Rice game and moved up from the scout team. Lange took some snaps with the offensive unit for the first time in practice on Wed and Thurs before the Rice game and then was thrown to the wolves at Houston. He performed admirably other than 3 INTs. Lange is a walk-on covid freshman that is at USM because he wants to be a coach. He never thought he would see the field and he isn't a D1 QB but is doing his best.

The defense is an average CUSA defense. Special teams are pretty good. Offense is atrocious. UAB should win easily.

CUSA West will most likely come down to UAB and UTSA with La Tech having a shot.
Is Lange mobile? If he is not much a runner behind a poor OL, that could be trouble against a very fast, big and deep Blazer front 6.
Looks like CW channel will be showing game on Charter

Thanks for the details on the QB situation. That’s just crazy bad luck.

No. He is not mobile. He is an accurate passer, smart, and knows the offense well for a freshman. But he does not have a strong arm and is inexperienced. He does his very best, but is just very limited in his abilities. It is what it is. Things will get better, but that most likely won't happen until next season.

The OL has also had multiple injuries and players have been playing musical positions all season so far trying to find the best fit (based on who is available that week).
Just win the game. One to one hundred. Just win and do not take them lightly. Just win.
Looking at the stats, USM really relies on Gore. He's a very good RB who can also catch the ball.

UAB hasn't really allowed anybody, including Georgia and Liberty, to establish the run.

USM has also allowed 28 sacks, which doesn't bode well against the UAB defensive front. UAB didn't get any pressure against Georgia, and Liberty's Willis just got away from it like he was Michael Vick Jr. Now that they are facing C-USA lines and QBs, the Blazers' pass rush could be a big problem for opponents. They ate FAU's offensive line alive.

USM will have to establish some running threat and get rid of the ball quickly. Screens, quick slants, etc. Probably will need some turnovers and penalties, both of which are sometimes a problem for the Blazers.

After a very tough schedule to start the season, I'd normally be a little worried this the spot for a flat performance. But seems like this is also just a tough matchup for USM in terms of strengths vs. weaknesses.
Southern Miss coach said except for the Bama game they have only been down by one score at halftime in the other games.
Here we go!
First down for Brown!
Brown!
McBride for another first down!
Had to settle for a field goal.

UAB 3 - USM 0
Southern Miss with a couple first downs.
Defense has come out very flat so far…
tackling like we did in the liberty game, getting no pressure on the quarterback
Not looking good.
