Wow. That’s impressive indeed. Good work App and Marshall!
I had guessed 1.1 Milly. I was super close.

That's good data. Just serves to prove, at least from the Marshall perspective, we are HIGHLY and severely undervalued. App is also undervalued. Looks like both programs would use this in negotiating.

I think it's not unrealistic if an average AAC school has an aav of 7 million, we should be able to net 4-5 million on the open market.

If Marshall and Southern Miss do end up in the Belt, I would want a new deal negotiated with the eSPIN. ESPECIALLY it they are asking us to do a lot more weekday games.
Marshall and App both have 3 games over 1 million votes in the last two seasons.

Both MU/App games hit 1 million. In 2020 Marshall's bowl game and App's conference game against UL are both over 1 million viewers.

There's not many teams that can point to three G5 games with over 1 million viewers.
Also, F... the markets.

This data drops a pipe bomb on that idea.

LOL at the AAC for the markets chasing.

I think it was Herdfan129 who compiled our ESPN data, we've ALWAYS done well when given the chance. Unfortunately, CUSA just doesn't get a lot of chances.
Week 3 Thursday night game Ohio at Louisiana drew 312K. That means 702K more people tuned in to Marshall/Appy. They were also going up against the Carolina Panthers at Houston Texans NFL game.

Last years Appy/Marshall game in Huntington on CBS drew a 1.167.

Not bad for 2 lil schools who were once in the SoCon together.
I'm glad the ratings returned the favor last year of being on CBS.

App and Marshall are a draw.

There are 210 DMAs in the US. We are at #74. We have a market and we saturate that market. When we joined CUSA I think we were around #54 market. Lots of places grew faster and we probably lost a little. But very few G5 get 60-70% of their local market in viewers.

You should look up the cities +/- a few spots. You'd be amazed at some of the one we compete easily with for market size.

We have dropped some but not that far, Huntington/Ashland/Ironton was the #64 market when we joined CUSA. But you are right not many schools get 70-75% of their market, especially if you don't belong to a so called power conference.

I'd really like to know what % of the market UCF gets from Orlando, SMU gets from Dallas, UAB gets from Birmingham and Buffalo gets from Buffalo. My guess the highest would be maybe 15-20% at best.

The only Marshall game on actual ESPN to have less than 1 million viewers to my knowledge was our FCS game last year against EKU where we had 980k viewers.
Marshall/App last year on CBS drew more views than Navy/Air Force this year on CBS. Can't wait to see the Boise/Utah St ratings from this past weekend.
Our bowl game in 2020 was on a Monday at 2:30 pm on the first day of bowls due to COVID CCG schedule. It only had 637K viewers... Damn shame.

That completely missed the point

Marshall and App State are brands. Brands get ratings, not markets.

I really don’t get the tv market argument. It’s not 1999. I live in Seattle and watch every App State game. 30 years ago, yes, I would have had to watch national broadcasts and UW games only. Now it’s all about brand power.
Who knew 7.9 million people couldn’t wait to see Davis Mills make his first start for the Houston Texans?

According to NFL Media, the Texans’ 24-9 loss to the Carolina Panthers in Week 3 was the most-watched NFL Network exclusive Thursday Night Football game since 2018 with 7.9 million viewers consuming the game across television and digital platforms.

The ratings for Texans-Panthers was up 35% compared to last season’s Week 3 matchup, when the visiting Miami Dolphins walloped the Jacksonville Jaguars 31-13.

The most-watched Thursday night game exclusively on NFL Network since 2018 was also a Week 3 game when the New York Jets took on the Cleveland Browns. Incidentally, that was the game where future Texans starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor would get injured and then-rookie first-rounder Baker Mayfield would finish the game to deliver Cleveland a 21-17 win.

NFL Media also says that Texans-Panthers was the most watched television program of Sept. 23.

So you're saying that App was up against the Panthers. Still drew 28,000 fans to the Thursday night game and got over 1 million people to watch on TV too?

28,000 fans are more than any two of UNCommunityCollege games put together.
