Exactly. We completely overlooked candidates from New Hampshire.

I went back this am and read quite a few NC threads on the UNC coaching search and i didn't see a bad thing about him. In fact, quite a few who had him ahead of Hubert Davis. To get a guy 38 with 10 years head coaching experience is a luxury and i love he's also a former Acc player.
Now this is a breath of fresh air. A clean break from the provincial Cincinnati way. Optimistic it will pay dividends. Looking forward to seeing Roy Williams in the stands at some point too.
So I'm pretty sure I heard a couple of local media say "what coach in his right mind would want to come to Cincinnati?".

I guess they found out.

Adding an extra million to your yearly salary helps...

Those were the kind of bad take the local media loves. Anything they can do to take shots at uc.
I'm a big fan of this hire...long track record of success as a HEAD coach, in a recruiting hot bed and someone a lot of people were pegging for UNC.

To those who are pissed about the "Brian Kelly" potential...you know what, if a guy does good enough to be wanted by anyone in the country in a few years, so be it, I'd rather have that than someone who has never proven themselves as the first or second chair on a college bench before. Regardless of who the coach is, I said I'd be behind them until they give reason not to be...so I'm a Wes Miller fan now as much as I would've been a fan of any other person who dons the Red and Black.

Hire the coach you think is the best fit and if he's hired away in a year or two, fine. That means he's producing.

Frankly, I'm just glad they didn't hire Archie.
Another thing this hire did - changes the narrative on the UC situation. Former coach is old news. Enter new coach. New excitement. Moving forward and no longer stuck in the mud.

If you would have told the fan base a week ago before any interviews the AD would get Espn's top ranked guy under 40 who also had been a hc for 10 years coming off this season and the post season they would have jumped for joy. Huggs old guys are going to pitch their fits, but he got the right guy or one if not the best option. You got to keep moving.

Not that it matters, but Kenyon and Terry Nelson are already putting up ****** tweets with their negative reaction to Wes Miller being hired instead of Erik Martin. Terry Nelson as a media representative of the Bearcats, no less.

I think Terry already deleted his. Kenyon is Kenyon. Wish uc fans wouldn't attack him over it. He's entitled to his opinion. The university is entitled to hire who they want.

Cool...they are no more or less qualified than any of us to select a new coach. I for one hope they're wrong, and truthfully, I don't know if qualification #1 should be "A Huggs Guy"...that's the kind of thinking that has basically mediocritized Michigan football.

Juwan would like a word...

But I would have agreed otherwise, Howard has just this year broken my "never hire a former player" theory. Jury still out on wether his staff and or boelines success propped him up. Kevin Ollie looked like a great hire, until he didn't.

So hoping someone can give me some reason to put him above those two in terms of coaching CV and success. Second, what if anything do we know about his recruiting chops?

He managed to pull a top 150 4-star PF to UNC Greenboro in 2020. It's the Southern Conference so, the deck is always going to be stacked against those schools in recruiting, but he has recruited well enough to keep a 4 or 5 year 20+ win run going, so its not like he got wins off one player, or a stacked senior class.

good to know. Thanks
I am behind him 100% Like I am with all our coaches.

I am really interested in who his assistants will be. Would love a former Bearcat to be one of them. If in some way he could do that it would round things out nicely for me.

If he was hired last week I would have been super estatic, but despite lack of Head coaching experience, I was super excited for Eric Martin + NVE, plus an experienced bench coach. Another poster said it perfectly on the first page, something about Eric wanting the program to be successful not for himself, but the program. I LOVED that he loves the CATS, and there is a lot to be said about someone WANTING and LOVING the job and University. I sure hope Miller falls in love with our town and University like the rest of us do.

A few other tidbits, not directed at any one person, but how do we know EM did not know X's and O's? Obviously he hasn't proven it yet, and maybe this will push him to go and do just that. Secondly, a lot of talk on another board about analytics. We also don't know if EM or NVE use them or not. Why assume they don't.

I met Eric one time and we chatted for several minutes, and he was just a great guy. I have that off my chest, and I am ready for battle with Miller. He needs to go hard after the 3-5 really good players that are in Cincy and Ohio right now. (One last thing - I really thought EM was going to get McMillan and at least 1 of the other top local talent), here is hoping he already contacted them (is it an open recruiting period?).
Been putting up those 20 win seasons against some power house programs:

Wofford
Furman
Chattanooga
ETSU
VMI
Mercer
The Citadel
Western Carolina
Samford

Looks like a Cronin out of conference schedule.
