With this year that doesn't count towards eligibility, how do you think the roster will shake out for next season? Here's what we know:

Seniors

Guards: Green, Curry, Strother
Forwards: Trice

Juniors

Guards: Wade, Oliver
Forwards: Pilavios, Ezikpe, Reece

Sophomores

Guards: Hunter, Long
Forwards: Morris (JUCO Commit [does this dude arrive as a soph or jr?])

Freshmen

Guards: O'Connell, Essien (HS commit), Stines (HS commit), Johnson (HS commit)
Forwards: Shanu

If I missed anything or if my info is bad tell me and I'll edit
Of the seniors, if we can keep Curry or Trice around I think that might be about the max of the Senior group you can keep on without causing too many issues down stream.

I agree that those 2 would be the best to retain. I have a feeling a couple more departures "down the stream" will occur as well.

Yep. Alluded to it in another thread but there is a logjam.

Green is not coming back, Curry and Trice are welcome if they choose to stay.

We should not expect to see Strother or Pilavios next year either.

So with that info we'd have 14, so we'd need one more to go?

It depends on if the school is willing to pay for the additional scholarship
Think we are allowed 2 extra schoolies for a total of 15 next year. So I think we're good. I know a lot of people say "How does a player improve without playing" just look at Long. His improvement this year is coming allow nicely, love those long arms. What a great frame he has to build on.

It's technically not 2 extra scholarships, as it's based on this season's roster and who has already signed their NLIs. Those within the current roster are permitted to return, if the teams chooses to retain them (and school approves paying for their scholarship). However, if MBB is at/over their 13-scholarship max, if a senior were to not be retained, the team can’t use that “open spot.” For ODU, the current roster is at their max of 13 spots, with 4 individuals at the end of their current eligibility (not including the upcoming “free” year). If all 4 players were to be retained, the team is permitted to go up to 17 scholarships. However, if any of those 4 players decided not to return (or not be retained), ODU cannot use their spot to get another player.

On Paper, I like that squad! Forward/Center is a touch thin but on the whole, we have a really nice mix of experience. i think things look positive, especially if Wade comes back to form quickly
I would not be surprised if 2 of the 14 are replaced by other transfers.
Dont the student-athletes need to be actively enrolled at Old Dominion University to receive their scholarship? Will any of the seniors graduate before next fall? Or will we force them to enroll in grad school?

You’re allowed the same amount of extra scholarships as your current senior scholarship athletes.

So they can go over on scholarships for: green, curry, trice, and strothers.

They don’t have to be in grad school, they could opt to pursue a second undergraduate degree

So what if an underclassman leaves? Say Pilavios transfers, can we replace him with a transfer?

Put it like this, we can have 13 schollies. Then the 4 seniors and school have the option of having those additional schollies for them if both sides want to do it.

If Pilavios leaves, he can be replaced by another scholarship athlete. You can not use those 4 additional scholies on different athletes.

Gotcha, thanks.
So we all assume/know that ODU is cash poor for athletics after the year of COVID. If ODU would decide to keep 2 Seniors for the extra year (2 extra scholarships) how much would that cost for 2 out of state players? And, would folks be willing to donate to a special one year fund to make it happen?

Depends on which seniors. I think its important to keep Curry and Trice, and I'd like to keep X if he wants to stay. I'd probably be willing to pony up some for those guys.
