After a two-week layoff, NU is back in CAA play at Towson starting Saturday...

I'd take a split here, although if NU didn't have the layoff I think we would sweep them.

Here's Coen on the layoff and its impact on all teams...

I don't see Doherty on the bench.
I was worried at first too. Only played four minutes but most likely due to E's contributions. Gotta lock down on D in the 2nd half. Towson is getting a ton in the paint and I don't like our chances at an 80 point pace
Much better on the D end in the 2nd half. Good to win after such a long layoff...heck, nice to play a game period.

We'll get a tougher test out of Towson tomorrow I'm sure. They aren't going to let Tyson go wild again. I'd expect them to be more physical and throw doubles at him. Others will have the opportunity to step up

I agree. Great game for Tyson and solid game for E and Strong. Lots of "rust" for the others. I thought Hofstra was going to give us some breathing room but JMU finished strong.
Yes, that was quite a second half for JMU. They have a few players capable of putting up big numbers. They won today with only 8 or 10 points from the kid Morse who went off against us.

I spent the last several weeks convinced JMU was behind CC and Hofstra in terms of strength and thought they had feasted on a softer schedule. I suppose have to change that attitude now. I was expecting help this weekend from them but I guess we gotta keep on winning ourselves
It's probably too early to think about tiebreakers. We could hit a bad patch and so could JMU but let's say we finish with the same record. We split our series with them so in the past the second tiebreaker would be to compare records against the third ranked team. As of now that would be Charlston. We swept CoC and JMU games with CoC were postponed. So what happens with the seeding?
It was a good win considering how rusty a lot of players were.

Let's get a win on Sunday.

We are getting bullied by a short-handed team. Not having a healthy Chris is hurting us today. Credit to those guys. Let's see what we got in the 2nd half
Tough one all around today. We really didn’t do anything very well and looked pretty rusty overall this whole weekend. Credit to Towson as they really took us out of our game from the jump. I hope we can find a game or two next weekend and work to get some mojo back. To make matters worse, the 1 seed now looks like a dream as JMU had a great weekend. Oh well, back to practice and to the film and see what progress we can make over the next 3 weeks
Doherty would not have helped us win this game today. Walters and Telfort looked bad all weekend.

Chalk this up as a lethargic performance. I think we shot our load yesterday and ran out of gas today coming off the layoff.

If we didn't miss any games from Covid, we sweep Towson, even if they weren't shorthanded.

Yep. Lethargic is the right word.....or maybe, "too cool for school." It was like, "we're good and these guys suck....and they're down two starters." I would have loved to see some offensive or defensive intensity before there was five minutes left in the game. I hope this was a lesson learned moment. Our road just got a lot harder.

Still, I'd like to avoid what we see on some other ball board message boards....."we are the greatest......we suck" Let's regroup and move on.
That's fair that we maybe got a bit complacent when they had starters out. I don't think a healthy Chris would have had us win the game but he does seem to bring some energy and rebounding when he plays and we seemed to be lacking a bit.

I asked this a few weeks ago but it's more relevant now. Does anyone know why the league allowed James Madison to play William and Mary 3 times? I am not complaining because we have more losses than them anyway but it just disrupts the balance of schedules (ore for the other teams). They will also end up playing Drexel 3 times if they play the final weekend. Just seems odd. Based upon that, would the league considering having us go there next weekend for a single game? Obviously this has no benefit for James Madison I realize

I have no idea but I'd love to know what the rules are. Is it up to the ADs? Does the CAA tell the schools when to play postponed games? Either way, nobody is anxious to schedule midweek makeup games. It seems to me like the league is more interested in keeping teams healthy than aggressively scheduling midweek makeup games. And if it's up to the ADs.....why would CoC want to reschedule a JMU game and why would JMU risk it? They're in the drivers seat now.
It's up to the AD's. it would have to be. How can the CAA tell a team worried about Covid to go play a game on the road?

And as far as NU's situation, as of now we're basically done for the season until the tourney.

There are no rescheduled or add on CAA games. I could see us playing a midweek game or two vs. a local opponent.
Tyson was named POTY for the 3rd time this year.

In other news...

BC has fired Jim Christian, so you'll probably hear Coen's name mentioned as a candidate.

But I doubt he'd leave NU for that hot mess in Chestnut Hill...
I wondered about that when I saw the news. I know he was a candidate last year when they toyed with the idea of cutting the cord with Christian

JMU has not played W&M at all and will only play Drexel one more time on Sunday the 28th. W&M did play Drexel 3 times however. As far as mid-week games JMU has played more mid-week rescheduled games than anyone else with 4. My guess is unless forced JMU will not play Charleston and that is generally for self preservation at this point, particularly with Matt Lewis' mild injury.
NU is back on the court this afternoon as they visit Towson.

NU is 0-2 and after losing two home games this week, have to go back on the road at Towson and JMU. It’s going to take an effort not to head back to Boston 0-4, especially if Shaq Walters doesn’t return.

TU is a 7-point favorite.
