Per the OP, IMHO, ODU's decision was the correct one.

I don’t know how to prove my belief that social media is primarily a weapon of the woke. Perhaps I’m wrong.

In the case of Facebook you are clearly wrong. here is my evidence.

I’ve not been at all clear in stating my position on this thread, and as a consequence opened the door for a smart poster like Grommet to stomp on my argument with both feet. My point - - which Grommet has effectively gutted - - is that social media is a tool for squelching dissenting viewpoints at ODU.

Your citation of a Facebook survey showing that conservative bigmouths are generally popular is neither here nor there. What you’d need to offer up is an example of an ODU player, staff member or someone in administration proudly displaying a “Support the Blue” banner, and not being shouted down. Can you do so?

But by the same token, I am not aware of a Drew Brees situation within the ODU ranks. My suspicion that dissenting views are unwelcome at ODU is completely without evidence. That is the point that I am conceding.

Check out Minium’s social media. He’s pretty vocal in his conservative views.

Yep. He sometimes goes overboard with that too but as long as he can make it clear that its his personal opinion and has nothing to do with ODU then i got no issue with that. I wanted to suggest him to create a separate account for his personal stuff and then use that account to express his opinions rather than use the one that is associated with his work but it should probably come from his boss Mr Selig.

A THOUSAND FAKE INTERNET POINTS FOR ME! SELF-PROFESSED BED-WETTER COMES CLEAN!!!

In keeping with a theme:

03-lmfao You're a good egg, AM. Solid move in admitting that wasn't a sustainable tact.

I'm going to post the rest of what I had written up in the OT area.
Some of the other local sports guys Twitter pages (Teel and Fairbanks are the worst) are literally 90% anti-Trump pages. Still follow for the other 10% (Fairbanks is pretty much a hack but Teel is actually a good sports reporter with connections). Wish they would all keep it separate, but Minium is probably the least political of the bunch. I know he supported Marco Rubio in 2016 and was pretty vocal then, but haven't seen much since. Guessing he had to shut up when he moved to ODU (which I have no problem with as long as the same applies on the other side). Seriously doubt he'd keep his job if his Twitter account became a MAGA account. Not even sure if he supports Trump.

Yeah its definitely the duty of their bosses to remind them and keep them compliant but i don't think Wood or Broderick will have a say in Fairbank's or Teel's twitter or their political views per say since they are not associated with ODU directly but on the other hand Minium is an employee of ODU and thus will impact ODU. I don't care which way he leans but as long his views don't bring attention to ODU or impact in a bad way i don't care and neither should anyone even if they personally don't agree with his views.
Fairbank hasn't been a sports writer for at least 3 years, moving out of the state.

I follow Teel and haven't noticed much politics from him (at least not the last few months, or since he got to the Times-Dispatch). If anything, too much VT and UVA, obsessed with the ACC

Minium is a die hard Trump supporter, he just isn’t a MAGA proud boy like yourself.

The irony of someone with a symbol of white supremacy as their avatar talking about how reporters should keep politics separate from the twitter page, is rich. 10 to 1, you have your “views” plastered all over your social media pages and I since you openly tout white supremacy on a messageboard, I can only imagine what your social media looks like.

If the Big 10 says it over reacted and decides to play, is there any chance ODU does the same? Will the MWC, PAC and MAC reverse course too?

I don't think we will and neither will MAC or MWC but PAC-12 might.
Just FYI... now #23 App st at Marshall just got moved to 3:30 and moved from CBS sports to the actual CBS network.

Being ranked has its privileges. Should be a good game.
I wonder if App State or Marshall are regretting their decisions right now?

LOL for baiting. The answer is either No or Not Yet depending on which side of this issue you are on. Why am I surprised how political this issue has become?

I don't know what you're talking about. The OP asked a question. I'm not sure I have a good answer, so I was genuinely trying to put myself in the head space of our peers who made a different decision. 04-cheers

Texas Tech had 75 players test positive and they are pressing on. Of course, they barely beat Houston Baptist, so maybe they are regretting playing, or soon will be...

I'm not sure why you don't see how political this issue has become. It has basically aligned with the COVID-19 issue. I am trying hard to understand all POVs regarding COVID-19 but it is hard when every related issue goes the same way and people have to pick sides. I dont really care if our decision was right or wrong. It is done and we have to live with it. Why have regret?

I get that it has become politicized, but we knew it would be.

You're right that what's done is done, but if our peers are able to pull off a season, I am curious as to what our long-term financial impacts of our decision will be. Frankly, in my mind, that's what is going to determine whether or not it was the right decision. I don't suspect we'll ever see those numbers, but there will be an impact.

For others, I think watching Marshall play on national tv this Saturday will be enough to say that we made the wrong decision. I don't necessarily agree, but I see their point.
