Yeah but guess what just as many WMU fans are not happy with Lester at WMU either. Having fans angry at coaches doesn't seem to impact a players choice of schools. It may impact their perception of the program though and how long a coach will be around. Toledo is looking for a new AD and so is WMU who rebrands itself every 5 minutes. I think the new ADs are the biggest threat to Candle and Lester. Of course since CC signed an extension the players we recruit have some confidence that CC will be around at EMU. Of course some folks around here weren't happy about that either.

'79 I am one of those guys who is not happy about the extension BUT I certainly am sanguine with my coach. Why? I listened to a Jim Rome interview with Lance Leipold when he coached at Buffalo and here is what he said:

"When your W-L record is poor, the recruiting competition will claim you are going to be fired regardless of of your contract length and when you win a Championship they will assert that you will soon be gone to a bigger program. A contract extension is in essence, inconsequential with regards to recruiting".

Lance, of course, did move on to Kansas and the P5 as most successful MAC coaches do. I laugh when I hear that a G5 school has "locked in" their coach with a big contract as none of them actually has the financial resources to do so. Lance, PJ Fleck and Nate Oats are proof of such as they left shortly after receiving lucrative by MAC standards contract extensions.

That is why I am opposed to ANY extension beyond two additional seasons from the current one. Chris Creighton clearly has been EMU's best hire in the University's NCAA era with the exception of Ben Braun and possibly Jim Harkema. Nevertheless I see ZERO reason to commit four additional contract years to him. If Mel Tucker heads to LSU and EMU goes 9-3 this season, Chris Creighton will be again coaching the "green and white", just in East Lansing.

Can't picture MSU hiring CC. Feel like they'd want someone higher profile - Fickell, Campbell, someone of that ilk.

If state hired Fickell - I could see Cincinnati snagging him.

Been there and done that with both Fickell and Campbell, the answer was NO! That stated, it was with Tucker as well UNTIL MSU ponied up with $5.5M, higher than Harbaugh's salary. I thought it was colossal mistake at the time but Mel has proven me wrong, the Spartans are kicking ass. So you are probably right, they will most likely pursue a higher profile candidate.
Doesn’t Harbaugh make like $7M?
Unless CC wins the MAC, I don’t see him going up to a midwestern P5 school. His overall record would not be sexy to their alumni. However, if CC wanted a raise, I could see him go to another G5 school who is looking for what we have: 1) A football program that is competitive, 2) A program that hovers at least 0.500 in conference 3) Can play in bowl games. These 3 metrics would equal a million dollar salary at many G5 schools. For example, loot at Wyoming’s coach’s salary (hint over 1$M).

Well put Luckey one. CC would likely do another 'renovation' type of gig. He doesn't strike me as a major P5 guy. He us excellent at being a leader and inspiring belief to turn a program around.

Interesting given our offensive success to see if a P5 would want to take him on as an O.C. but he strikes me as a head coach guy and I wouldn't expect that

I never want him to leave and I think he will stay but if we go 8-4 with a bowl win I wouldn't be surprised if his name is floated.

If he left I wonder how players would transfer?

Most of the threads and discussion on this board is what if or whatever scenarios coaching or otherwise. Example football outlook. Indiana game and so forth and so on.

Exactly BUT... We create this special, single purpose threads for recruiting to separate that subject from other subjects, related and non-related.

This is NOT the thread if our friend, DP, wants to start a campaign to increase COA allowances and tie it back to recruiting and then we get into big discussions of public and private sectors, university governance, professional and non-professional athletics and the finally the price of gas (which effects how far that COA allowance goes, er the vehicle goes).

That was on his initial contract Tom. His new contract baselines at $4M with performance benchmarks that could indeed get him to the $7M figure but to date Jim has not touched any of those achievements. When the smoke clears after this season, Mel Tucker is likely to be the highest paid college football in the State of Michigan.
EMU appears to have a small but HIGH quality recruiting class to date.

EMU79 or EMUSTEVE, will we be hosting 2022, or 2023 perspective recruits tonight, or next week? We need LB desperately! We don't have any so far committed for 2022! You're both the experts on this category! Or anyone that can give some information! Thanks

This is the area I'd really like to see them hit the transfer portal hard. We need some guys that can contribute immediately.

I've never held myself out as a recruiting "expert". A recruiting follower would be more accurate.
You guys see (sorry If someone else already posted) that Myles McNeal entered the portal on Oct 29th? We have a ton of players in the secondary so I'm not too concerned. Does this open up a spot for JUCO linebacker who can play game 1 of next season?

It does open up a scholarship for, what position is unknown.
How many seniors in their final year of eligibility are on this year's team?
Article suggests 13. Getting hit hardest at TE and DL.
