Looks good. Is this a scrimmage? When does MHSAA FB begin?

I believe games start Thursday, August 26. I know teams do 4-way scrimmages in advance of the season...my guess is this tidbit is from one of those.

Here's his offer list (including Arizona State): https://247sports.com/Recruitment/Max-Re...Interests/

247sports has him #25 in IL. Hope we can hold him.

That was my thought was well. With a Pac 12 and Big 12 offer and interest from other P5 conference schools he's a great get! Rivals also has him as a 3-star and the number 21 player in the state of Illinois.

Brief update: McCabe has his top 50 in MI. EMU has none. CMU doing well as is WMU.

EMU, as we know, seems to do well in IL. We have two top recruits from that state.

Reed's team plays at 4 today vs Dearborn Fortson on Ballys.

Game is at Wayne State.
Looks like the staff is hitting Illinois hard.

What I'm really interested in is the 'numbers game' for the 2022 class.

Remember we could lose all of the 'super seniors' and not free up many scholarships for the 2022 recruiting class.

Example (I believe I have this correct).

Bryson Cannon is a 'super senior' - we do NOT gain a scholarship after this season. His scholarship was a 'freebie' didn't count.

OTOH, Hamilton would have been a super senior (scholarship wise at JMU and not counted against their limit) but he counts against our limit as he isn't OUR super senior. He gets the extra year of eligibility but counts as an EMU scholarship player.

Bottom line: Can use the super senior scholarship exemption for YOUR super senior. Not a transfer.

That means the staff needs to carefully count out the number of NEW scholarships being freed up at the end of this academic year.

How do you find this information? When I look at 247 for example under visits, it always shows ZERO! And, then people will post we had official visits this past Saturday! Thanks!

I didn't say we had official football visits. Players often tweet about their visits.

I saw a bunch of Tweets from the staff I think yesterday. Presumably, letting all recruits now they are in Northern Illinois for our game today.

Below is the link to the NCAA recruiting. Go to the football sub division section.

Hint: One doesn't need to be a lawyer to understand the recruiting rules but it is great for 'lawyer wannabes." (or someone who likes formal logic or Boolean logic. All of the And, Or, NOT stuff).

This is not written like even instructions for assembling something you bought.

It is not designed for someone who 'understands everyday English."

Literally someone needs to read each section and translate it into something which can be color coded onto a calendar so a coach knows what the hell he can or can not do.

https://www.ncsasports.org/ncaa-eligibil...g-calendar

Here is the section that we are in today:

"September 1 – November 27, 2021: Quiet period
September, October and November: College coaches can conduct evaluations during 42 days of their choosing (or 54 for Service Academies); coaches are not allowed to visit an athlete’s school on more than one calendar day during this time."

Does this mean say a half dozen or more of our coaches fanned out in No. IL yesterday and last night for high school games of our 2022 and 2023 targets?

And we may blueshirts on the roster. We may a dozen or less super seniors.

I count 15 players. I'll check later but I'd guess most are 'super seniors.' Is so, we do not pick up free scholarships from them.

Off the top of my head, I'd be surprised if we have a large recruiting class this year, unless we lose a lot of players to the transfer portal.

Thanks for the post guys. Really interesting and I've been wondering about this for a minute. In my opinion, (no offense to all the guys leaving) but the key losses would be Jawon runnin the ball, Van Hoeven on the line as he is the Center, Julien as a special teams weapon, Rush with his ability to get to the QB and Odukoya as a blocking T.E. The rest of the guys to me are not impact players helping us to get to the next tier in the MAC.

Questions/thoughts I have....
-Is Ben Bryant returning? I thought he was a Senior grad transfer?

-I thought Benson would be a big help as a DB. I dont think he's played this year. If so, could he be eligibel for a medical redshirt? I have been critical of our secondary for a while and I dont think we have quality players there (outside of Peavy) I did think he could help.

-I agree that we will likely see less scholarships as we have so many guys returning. What I hope we finally address is getting some good quality JUCO Linebackers and Defensive Ends. We have been lacking here for 2 years at these positions. We need immediate difference makers.

- I really look forward to seeing Melvin Swindle play next yr. High ranking recruit who can contribute next season.

The only position I have a concern about next year is the DL which even with the super seniors is struggling to stop the run and replacing Myrick at LB. I've think we have good depth at the other positions and been impressed with the young guys playing in the secondary. I would add Randle the JUCO who has a knee brace on last home game at DT. Benson was on crutches for the last three games.

CC seems to be pretty good at working the transfer portal. maybe he'll pull a guy to plug and play at LB

Go to ALL schools and say status = Uncommitted.

https://247sports.com/college/oregon-sta...ferPortal/

For whatever reason, I can't get a link for all schools. Keep getting Ore State.

The number of players entering the transfer portal has been growing since AUGUST (yes, August).
