Which teams in C-USA have a decent shot to sell out their current stadium (at least once) based on fanbase, current team performance and schedule in 2019?

Team - Stadium Capacity - Highest 2018 Attendance
Charlotte - 15,314 - 19,151 (App State)
Marshall - 38,227 - 32,349 (NC State)
MTSU - 31,000 - 16, 617 (WKU)
FAU - 29,419 - 24,101 (Air Force)
FIU - 20,000 - 18,478 (FAU)
ODU - 20,118 - 20,532 (VT)
WKU - 22,113 - 20,811 (Marshall)

North Texas - 30,850 - 30,105 (La Tech)
La Tech - 28,562 - 22,926 (Southern)
UAB - 71,594 - 27,124 (Savannah St)
Southern Miss - 36,000 - 29,176 (Jackson St)
UTSA - 65,000 - 42,071 (Baylor)
Rice - 47,000 - 26,390 (Houston)
UTEP - 51,500 - 19,412 (New Mexico State)

Only ODU and Charlotte sold out a game last year (not tooting my own horn just an observation). A few teams were close to a sellout including FIU, WKU and NT. Some teams just have no shot because their stadiums are so big (UAB, UTSA and UTEP)

2019 Big Games
Charlotte - Marshall (Probably wont be a sellout)
Marshall - Cincinnati (Definite sellout)
MTSU - Duke (Should be but wont)
FAU - UCF (Definite sellout)
FIU - UMass (Probably wont be a sellout)
ODU - ECU (Definite sellout)
WKU - Army (Should be but wont)

North Texas - Houston (Definite sellout)
La Tech - UMass (Probably wont be a sellout)
UAB - South Alabama (No chance)
Southern Miss - North Texas (Probably wont be a sellout)
UTSA - Army (No chance)
Rice - Baylor (Maybe, depends how many Baylor fans show up)
UTEP - Nevada (No chance)

C-USA should have more sellouts this year than last year.
North Texas will undoubtedly sell out the Houston game unless weather issues arise. I imagine the opener will be close even though it's an FCS. ACU will bring a big crowd. Their alumni typically end up working in DFW after graduation.
I don't know if USM will ever be able to sell out their stadium. The closest we've been was 2015 vs. Mississippi State and we were about a 1k from selling out. If that won't do it I don't know what will. We'll have another chance when we host them again in 2025.
I like that UAB is going big with a new stadium but I think they will struggle to sell it out. I dont think you need to sell out every game but for your big games you have to sell out. ODU could sell out a 30k stadium easy when VT, UVA or ECU come to town. Would love for us to get to 30k one day but we are only at 22.5k after Phase 1 of our renovation

That was a sellout. 36,000+.
Our opener on a Thursday night against Garner Webb should be a sellout. Night game, new coach, and imagine their will be some sort of ceremony honoring the shooting victims.
We’ve sold ours out several times over the years. I think our largest crowd ever was 42K and change versus WVU.
clt says those numbers are fake news. if you talk to appys, they had 25k fans at charlotte last year.
FIU doesn't look at us as a rival, but we look at them as one. That game was pretty packed the last time in Boca. I expect in excess of 24k; if both teams are good it could approach a sellout of 30k.
UAB's game with Alabama State will draw more than the South Alabama game. No one see's the USA game as a "big" game.

No one see's the FCS Alabama State game as a "big game" either. UABs schedule sucks this year.
Charlotte should sell out the opener against GW (should be an emotional game plus new coach and all that), the Parents weekend game which should either be Umass or FAU, and if there is any success at all, Marshall should be pretty close.

I'd say, if weather is nice, that 25k in Boone should be the minimum in attendance for the UNCC game this year. I'd bet a buck that there will be 27-29k. Local teams bring in the Boonetown faithful.

Where do you get your numbers? Nothing official but this is what I find.

Quote:On September 5, 2015, the attendance record of 36,641 was set in the 2015 season opener against Mississippi State.

Record attendance

Thanks Beagle, I thought maybe I had lost my mind.

The largest crowd at MU was wvu 41,382 in 2010. We had 40,592 for Louisville in 2016. We had 40,383 for wvu in 2007. 38,791 for Purdue in 2018. 36,914 for Kansas State in 2005. The capacity is 38,016. Those are the top five games for attendance.

The original capacity was 30,000 and there were several sellouts for games at that original capacity UNH; YSU and Montana that I can think of off the top of my head.

ASU isn’t a big game in the sense that they are a rival or anything like that, but they always bring a large crowd.
We will not sell out against Cinci. I anticipate a 31-33k type crowd.

I stand corrected. For some reason I was thinking it wasn't a sell out because there were still quite a few seats opens, mostly in the east/west upper decks on the south/north ends. I remember sitting in the stadium thinking "Jesus, what is it going to take for us to completely 100% pack out this stadium?".

That's a game I'm sure Marshall fans hate being reminded about. Up 21-7 with like 8 minutes left in the game, about to go up 28-7 and they fumbled in the red zone. Long story short, the herd loses 24-21. I remember watching that game on TV and feeling so bad for Marshall.
