Michigan is amazing, an unranked team from the B1G, a conference that hasn't done anything in the CWS in generations, going out to California and beating #1 UCLA to make the CWS, and now beating #8 Texas Tech to immediately enter the winner's bracket.

In football, I "hate" Michigan, but it's hard not to root for this baseball club.

Indiana won 1 and lost 2 (each by 1 run) 6 years ago. That's "something" 03-wink

Go Blue.

What I've always wondered about is why it has been this way. I mean, I know, warm-weather schools have an obvious advantage in an outdoor sport that starts in mid-February.

But, from 1953 - 1966, the B1G won 5 baseball national titles. The B1G was clearly a baseball power right up there with the SWC and the PAC 8. Then suddenly, after Ohio State's 1966 win, that just totally stopped. Why?
Can't keep the good recruits at home. Hell, Arkansas alone has three kids from Illinois, I'm pretty sure? I haven't looked at other rosters but I'm sure there are Midwest kids on theirs too.
Louisville's whole roster is from Big 10 states and Vanderbilt has 7 or 8 players from Big 10 states. Just can't keep the best of the best at home.
Congrats to Michigan.

Have to hope we can beat the Arkie/FSU loser on Monday.

I wouldn't mind the ESPN A team of broadcasters vs the junior high announcers they had today.

ESPN's announcers for the CWS are normally pretty bad. Westwood One's got their big basketball guy calling it on the radio if you want to sync it up and watch it that way.

Go search for MLB players by home state. Warm weather states are over represented when you account for population.

In parts of the south baseball is a 12 month sport. In much of the rest of the south it is an 8 month sport.

The B1G (and other actual winter conferences) disadvantage doesn’t start with the season starting in February.

The disadvantage starts on national signing day. MLB draft rules keep it from being worse. Most top programs will have several signees drafted and opt for the contract.

The states with real winter under produce MLB players per capita compared to warm weather states and it should follow that they produce fewer high Division I players.

It isn’t impossible to compete you just have less margin for error in recruiting.

Florida State vs Arkansas was a heckuva throwback classic. Excellent pitching, sound defense with more than a few stellar plays on both sides, and the game boiled down to Arkansas having had 2 men on third and couldn't score either of them and Florida State getting a sacrifice fly to win it. Congrats to the Noles and I hope they meet up again in this series it was an excellent game even if low scoring.
If Auburn hangs on winning 4-1 M8, all higher seeds will have lost except Vandy.

Tough year to be a top 8 seed but I like the stories of Michigan, Florida St and Auburn. I hope Tech can beat Arkansas tomorrow but that will be a tough task.

Well we changed pitchers too soon in the 9th and then a throwing error by the kid who had 3 of our RBI coupled with 2 excuse me hits sealed our choke. Mississippi State should at least say thank you. It was a gift. But congratulations to State for the comeback.

Auburn plays Louisville at 1PM on Tuesday.

I agree, Michigan has been amazing. Going into Corvallis as the #3 seed and winning that region was surprising, but then beating the #1 ranked UCLA was even more shocking. I attended the first game and Michigan looked good. Their pitching was excellent. Where were these guys all season? It was disappointing, because I thought this UCLA team had a chance to win it all. This article summed it up best for me:

https://www.culvercityobserver.com/story.../8239.html

Michigan's roster makeup is interesting:
Illinois - 5 players
Wisconsin - 6
California - 6
Washington - 2
Colorado -1
Michigan - 8
Indiana - 2
Arizona - 1
Oregon - 1
Mass. - 1
Maryland- 1
Georgia -1

Total of 35 players from 11 different states. They only brought 27 to LA for the regional, but they are obviously looking around the country for talent and doing a pretty good job of finding talent.
Texas Tech comes back from 3 down and lives to play another day.
(Red Raiders got the mojo working.)

Arkansas gets on the bus for Fayetteville after "2 and a BBQ" this year in Omaha.
The pigs go 2-and-q. Such a wonderful thing to see.
Texas Tech: you stay.
Arkansas: Sashay away.

Texas Tech wins elimination game 5-4 over the Hogs

Michigan and Florida State up next in Winner's Bracket - loser plays Texas Tech.

Officially will not be an all-SEC final
One of the more intriguing aspects of this CWS is that only Vandy (1) and Michigan (2) have won NCAA baseball championships, and Michigan's were both before I was born (I am 56)
Florida State and Mississippi State are 1 and 3 on the list of most appearances without a title

I went to bed before the 9th. Sucks Auburn lost in that fashion but they're still alive. Go Tigers!

That extra pause I felt he was going to sail it and sure did. Dang shame because he had a great game but for that play.
Rain came in a little too early for Louisville. Leading 4 to 1 in top of 5th with rain delay until at least 9 Central time. 2nd game today is delayed until tomorrow.
