You do realize Toledo has a history of professional hockey championships that pre dates the Walleye and that the Mudhens won back to back titles in 2005 and 2006? So yes this is a championship sports town, clearly evidenced by those and also widespread following of pro and college sports, UT consistently ranks among the top in attendance in football and men/women basketball, even though admittedly a lack of MAC championships BUT that has not diminished fan support.

They consistently rank among the top in MAC for attendance and as anyone familiar with the Toledo sports scene is aware, support for NCAA college football in this town is split among fans of ND, UM, OSU and UT. And as a pointed out, plenty of evidence (ticket sales) that shows Toledo supports minor league baseball, high school and college football and basketball. Feel free to compare UT, Mudhens or Walleye to their peer organizations within their respective leagues. Let's compare numbers to other midwest cities with 500,000 that don't have major league teams. You keep referring to the need to have numbers to support this argument (or any others), where may I ask are yours to support your cases?? Seems like you make plenty of comments on Toledo and UT with no supporting evidence, just your own opinions which often (and I give the UT Urban Affairs Center as an example) are not even supported by facts, none of which you seem to be able to provide.hmmmm

Toledo is like the 3rd or 4th largest city East of the mississippi without a pro sports team. Louisville and Charlotte or some Carolina city are the ones I remember larger.
We do well at the gate for the most part. The Hens just are flat out bad. It's still a gorgous place and always ranks among best minor league parks. Only new places like Duram and Nashville have as-nice or better stadiums.

Walleye is a nice story but Komets have drawn better for years, but they have a bigger barn. PFW doesn’t have football but basketball is solid. Doesn’t draw. University of St Francis has one a number of national championships in football in there division. Our TinCaps in the Midwest league is low A but we have won multiple awards for best park. And they draw better than a lot of higher division leagues. And we have a G league team for what that is worth if you enjoy 48 minutes of garbage time.
Love Toledo but love living here more.

Fort Wayne had an ABA team right? High division basketball is what Toledo has lacked. But UT still whoops Fort Wayne college athletics.
The Komets have had great stability. Toledo vs FW is the best ECHL rivalry. Their barn is junky and old now. History is there but Toledo would draw be drawing 14000 right now if the arena allowed it. Our franchise isn't as old but Hockey has still lived in Toledo for years. The Komets also just got an affiliate for the first time in a while (Vegas). Toledo hockey has mostly been connected to the Red Wings which helps.
The Mud Hens are about as storied of a franchise as you can have in minor league baseball. A long standing name which resonates with the city (MASH helps).
Personally I like AAA baseball, ECHL hockey, and good college athletics. The real missing key is pro basketball, which Fort Wayne has a history of.

Fort Wayne Coliseum is old but they put $$$ into it not that long ago. A renovation they did a nice job on... The arena is a bit oversized, but I wish our HC had a few thousand more seats. I guess it’s all market driven with most ECHl arena seating in the 7-10,000 range...
I go to Fort Wayne a lot for work(Auction Co.) and really like what is going on with their downtown, also their baseball stadium is first rate as well...

they've had 3 renovations in the last 30 years. one to completely gut the old place and jack the roof up, the others to continue modification and stay ahead of the curve.
i suggest you venture to fort wayne to see what a real arena looks like.
compared to the war memorial, huntington looks like it belongs in communist china.

The only thing I dislike about the HC is the scoreboard. The HC was still ranked the best arena in the ECHL this year. I have seen 4 minor league arenas. Van Andel (AHL Grand rapids), Fort Wayne, Toledo and Rocket Morgage (AHL Cleveland). The Huntington is my favorite by a mile. If I was bigger I could see the seats being small...but it's intimate, new, has great site lines, fan support, and team. What more could you want?
History is on Fort Wayne's side. But Toledo has had the Goaldiggers, blades, Mercury, Storm etc. It's something?

Some of the diehard fans. but I suspect majority of UT fans, and the casual local CFB fans and other who attend UT games, are more realistic in that unless the MAC folds, UT is not going anywhere. CFB fans in the Toledo area are just too divided with their support to ND, UM or OSU to ever see the Glassbowl consistently sell out-just look at attendance over last decade with winning teams playing. And this what it would take to even consider a move to another conference, especially in an environment where attendance at CFB is declining across the country.

Walleye is a nice story but Komets have drawn better for years, but they have a bigger barn. PFW doesn’t have football but basketball is solid. Doesn’t draw. University of St Francis has one a number of national championships in football in there division. Our TinCaps in the Midwest league is low A but we have won multiple awards for best park. And they draw better than a lot of higher division leagues. And we have a G league team for what that is worth if you enjoy 48 minutes of garbage time.
Love Toledo but love living here more.

Fort Wayne had an ABA team right? High division basketball is what Toledo has lacked. But UT still whoops Fort Wayne college athletics.
The Komets have had great stability. Toledo vs FW is the best ECHL rivalry. Their barn is junky and old now. History is there but Toledo would draw be drawing 14000 right now if the arena allowed it. Our franchise isn't as old but Hockey has still lived in Toledo for years. The Komets also just got an affiliate for the first time in a while (Vegas). Toledo hockey has mostly been connected to the Red Wings which helps.
The Mud Hens are about as storied of a franchise as you can have in minor league baseball. A long standing name which resonates with the city (MASH helps).
Personally I like AAA baseball, ECHL hockey, and good college athletics. The real missing key is pro basketball, which Fort Wayne has a history of.
they've had 3 renovations in the last 30 years. one to completely gut the old place and jack the roof up, the others to continue modification and stay ahead of the curve.
i suggest you venture to fort wayne to see what a real arena looks like.
compared to the war memorial, huntington looks like it belongs in communist china.

The only thing I dislike about the HC is the scoreboard. The HC was still ranked the best arena in the ECHL this year. I have seen 4 minor league arenas. Van Andel (AHL Grand rapids), Fort Wayne, Toledo and Rocket Morgage (AHL Cleveland). The Huntington is my favorite by a mile. If I was bigger I could see the seats being small...but it's intimate, new, has great site lines, fan support, and team. What more could you want?
History is on Fort Wayne's side. But Toledo has had the Goaldiggers, blades, Mercury, Storm etc. It's something?
while thats all nice about toledo history, remember these fine businessmen blew it so bad they had to cease operations because the old arena was closed and the storm didnt have a new place to play yet.

huntington needs a big marquee or something outside like "hey we're here, come see us, look at whats coming here soon"
they also needed to use the entire site to make the actual arena larger and knock down the bank, why demolish a whole city block and stop there talking about "historical value" when u just tore down a 100 year old theatre?
the roof should be higher so they can get a traditional score board that hangs from the roof. its a decent spot, but its got small town written all over it.
the seats arent "small" theyre just cheap. i've been to the old toledo sports arena and even though it was old, those seats were very sturdy. i cant count how many broken or warped seats i've seen at the new place.
