EKU replacing turf on both football and baseball fields.

Is this field going to have alternating colors like Central Arkansas' football field?

Alternating shades of green. Light and dark sort of like it was mid fall when I was at school.

Austin Peay would have a new arena in Clarksville if they wanted to use it.

They have already signed a 30 year lease last October to be the primary tenant for the F&M Bank Arena.

Seats 6,000 and is due to open 2022-23 season. Looks very nice. Downtown and with a view (in certain areas) of the Cumberland river. Looks like it has all the modern amenities (luxury suites, prem. seating, coaches offices, team locker rooms, primary ice sheet capability, and more).
Also will be used for conventions, concerts, and other events. 131 million dollar project. Five floors and a secondary arena for an APSU practice court and secondary ice sheet for hockey. Two new parking garages are being built. ABOUT 2-3 blocks from campus.

Fancy new facilities for the Gov's!!

They are ramping up for their new conference-- BUT WHO?
EKU is about to put $10-20 million into their arena within the next few years. It's going to be a massive overhaul which may have us playing away from campus for an entire season when it comes.

Do you think they will continue with this design with the move to FCS? Looks good but seems odd to block in any potential to expand seating on that one side.

Several of us agree but it does seem to be moving forward. Going the more premium than volume plan.

Yep. There will be changes made, but it appears at this time those will be more cosmetic than any kind of wholesale changes to open up the possibility of future expansion along the sidelines.

(There is room remaining for limited expansion in the east end zone, if it's ever needed.)

As Gem said, JSU is going with the strategy of "create demand" rather than "increase supply". If the stadium starts selling out regularly, ticket prices can be raised, creating more revenue. At the same time, a sold out 20K stadium has a far better gameday atmosphere than a 1/2 to 3/4 filled 30K stadium. This positively impacts both recruiting and media presence. (No one wants to televise empty seats.)

If the time ever comes when JSU needs a 50K+ seat stadium, I'm guessing we'll have the budget then to pay for the massive demolition the upgrade will require.

I honestly don't believe we'll need anything that size for quite some time. Most of the G5 stadiums in that range or bigger are located in cities (such as Birmingham, El Paso, and Ruston) which have hosted bowl games or other large events. That obviously isn't a factor for Jacksonville State.
I’m still not convinced an increased number of seats is impossible. If necessary.
East endzone is getting a parking deck or the plans I saw had one.

What was wrong with gojaxst?

Forum?
Moderation of the site was lacking. The guy who managed the site was too busy to moderate and the site became a home of attacks which were inappropriate. Posters were leaving which lead to a member setting up an alternative forum.

The gojaxst site has improved their moderation recently and both sites have activity. We Are Jax State probably has the most at this time.

I guess it is used for the dorms
Looks like EKU is getting $31M in the state budget to renovate Alumni Coliseum (basketball and volleyball plus other events).

Sounds a lot like when we renovated the Pete
Very exciting time. The end product was much different than the start yet still home.

It is, but if the comments in the article are to be believed it's going to differ in one interesting way. I'm aware that the Pete's capacity diminished from 5,000 or so to about 3,000 due to the renovations. I had assumed ours would go down a little as well, but they stated that it's considered important going into the project to fully maintain the current 6,500 capacity. It will be interesting to see how that comes about because it won't be easy. I'll be interested at all to see if any seating at all is available in the end zone that currently has none.
Our downsizing was definitely a benefit. It was very much a 70s style arena with bleachers. Now the angle is much greater and every seat is a good seat. It has a much better acoustic and definitely louder.
I’m not a fan of end zone seating but I see no reason to leave it empty. I always thought there should be some amenities there to make those seats in more demand.

One rumor I heard is that there may be ground level suites behind the basket, but we'll see.

We will also be converting from an arena that is probably at least 60% bleachers, but they're also bringing the seating all the way down to the floor rather than the caged off look it has now.
Suites sound great but it’s hard to picture them floor level. It seems they’d be upper level with seating below. But what innovative idea could you do above the suites? I could picture an open gathering area for alumnus. Does EKU serve beer?

I don't think we currently do beer at basketball, but I think we do at football (which obviously doesn't affect this project). If they were floor level I'd picture a basketball version of what Louisville did when they enclosed the open end of their football stadium if you've ever seen that. It's not a great vantage point...it's more about the experience.

Supposedly new coaches' offices will overlook the floor from above.
