Is Wood still broken? Only 3IP last outing with 3ER? Maybe he's not ready yet?

Send him down for rehab and use Bauer, Castillo, DiSclifani, Gray, Lorenzen as your starting 5. Send Mahle to the pen and see if he can do long relief--then, with Romano back in the pen as well, you've get something to rely on if the starter runs out of gas.

That was only his 3rd start this season. I would imagine he is still shaking off some rust.

Lorenzen came in and loaded the bases yesterday, and got no one out, and you want to reward him by moving him to the rotation? Crazy talk. He has some nasty stuff, but his control issues will likely prevent him from ever being a closer or a starter again.

Who's your 5th starter? I have no faith in Mahle.
Reds destroying the Cubs tonight. Noice!

AQUINO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, another beauty from Gray.
How many times can you keep running that clown Lorenzen out there, will cost them the season....04-cheers

It isn't just Lorenzen--Garrett had his role in this as well. The Reds have NO middle relief.

My question is--if your middle relief is this bad...why use it at all?

They could arguably have won the game if he'd just left Castillo pitch.
I am available to manage starting Tuesday. Bell does it yet again.

P.s. I say Garrett ends the season with ERA close to 4, but his suspension might prevent that by resting his arm.
Man, this is a fun team to watch.

This is the most fun I've had watching the Reds since 1999. Even when they're losing, you always get the idea that they're still in it.

My wife was saying that the only thing that would make it better would be if Puig was still on the team. That dude is hilarious.

It alternates between fun and maddening for me. I guess that's true for most pro teams but this one much more than most of seems. It's clear they can play with any team in the Division and arguably the League but I don't think they've ever actually reached the point of true contender. Every time they seem on the verge of doing so they seem to come up a little short. Conversely every time I'm about to write them off as also rans, they go on a nice little streak that gets me thinking well, maybe... Lot of fun but also a lot of frustration. They just can't seem to get the lineup, starters and relievers all going at the same time.
how do you strike out four times in a game? didn't geno end yesterday's game in a double play?

I can't complain too much about a guy with 34 HRs, but yeah he's been a little bit frustrating too. I guess part of it is the price you pay for the HRs but he looks like a guy looking for HRs rather than just a hard hit ball and some of his stats are showing that. His OBP has gone down from .367 and .366 in 2017 and 2018 to .340 this year. Not surprisingly Suarez' strikeout rate is similarly up while his walk rate is similarly down from the last 2 seasons. At age 27, you'd hope he'd be getting better at knowing the strike zone rather than worse.
Well here we are again at another one of those potential inflection points. Reds playing decent and getting mostly really nice pitching from both the SP and even the pen lately. It's a road trip but we've got 3 against the seemingly imploding Pirates followed by 4 against league worst Miami. Then it's 4 against the Cardinals. This is probably the last semi-realistic shot of the season at actually putting ourselves in contention. This team has taught us not to get our hopes up too much but you never know until you play the games...

Marty reported that the league warned both teams that if there are any shenanigans they are going to drop the hammer HARD starting with the managers. Of course Hurdle is probably about done in Pitt so he may not care.

Clint is on the last train to Clarksville so I can see him instigating a dust up. Wonder if Bell can have a bench warmer ready to fly a fist his way a la Martinez to Don Zimmer? Then again, Clint seems pretty good at standing behind a wall of players.
Aquino blasts his 12th home run [solo shot] this month!
SMDH. What's happened to Iglesias this year? Dude gives up 2 ER in the 9th for the loss to drop him to 2-9. ERA balloons to 4.17.
i hate the pirates. our rival to mediocrity
