Not one of us has a single profitable sport in our athletic department so your point is silly.

ODU certainly doesn't: http://www.apa.virginia.gov/reports/OldD...AA2016.pdf

In 2016 App States Ticket sales for your entire athletic department equaled 1.5 million our basketball ticket sales were just shy of a million. What point are you trying to prove?

Don't sell yourself short. You also had $832k in contributions as a lot of your seats require a seat donation. So between your basketball tickets and required contributions you guys generated more revenue in basketball than they had for total ticket sales (entire athletic department.)

And still LOST $1.38 million. Again, ODU basketball doesn't make money. Learn to read a financial statement.

We're all losing money here. Football lost 3 million. So does that make football less lucrative? Every Div 1 team has to have a men's basketball team. The difference is ours brings I revenues.

Thank you. I was about to say the same thing.

They sell tickets for $5 piece so they don't understand. It's not their fault. Poor things.

Please learn the difference between "making money" and offsetting some expenses and then you will agree with ASUcrutch.

Very nice that Marsha has such good attendance, i would push it too.
Thanks for posting the numbers for Old Dominion. This is about to be fun.

Old Dominion Basketball Ticket Sales $978k. Does not include almost $833k in contributions.

Total ticket sales for ALL sports.

USA- $814k
Ga St- $795k
Coastal- $792k
ULM- $783k
UALR- $629k
UTA- $500k

Combining ODU's ticket sales and contributions gets you to just over $1.8 million.

Total Ticket Sales for ALL Sports.

Ga Southern- $1.6 million
Ark. St- $1.5 million
Texas St- $1.1 million
Troy- $1.0 million

Congrats guys. Louisana and App St are the only ones out of the ENTIRE Sun Belt, the only two schools who generated more TOTAL (all sports) ticket revenue than what ODU did for basketball alone.

(01-21-2019 11:23 PM)mturn017 Wrote: [ -> ]You and I have different ideas of decency. When was App St decent in basketball?

'06-'10 was a decent run. 2 20 win seasons, wins over UVA, VCU,Wichita, Vandy, probably at least one win over a Steph Curry led Davidson (all from 06-07, not looking up other years). we had 25 wins in 06-07 and were at least in contention for an at large bid. Thats decent enough for me in basketball, anything more is just gravy.

I just think its easier for us to get back to that level than for ODU to reach the equivalent in football. I'm sure you disagree, time will tell.

So that’s what? Equivalent to a ten win season in football and a win against a MAC school in the Bahamas?

ODU cares about football. The same can’t be said about App St basketball.
I don’t want to compare dicks with you, obviously App has had a more successful transition to FBS. But what makes you think ODU can’t have the same success? We were better than you while we were both in FCS.

If you're idea of a decent run is one flash in the pan season in which you had the scheduling equivalent of what you just derided us for (and lost to an uninspired App team by 24 points), then you're 100% right we have different ideas of decent.

No real comparison between the two, sorry.

Are you really comparing the few years in FCS, where you were mostly playing opponents App basketball would laugh at, and having a running clock against UNC because they were whooping your ass so bad, to us? FFS, you're drunk, go to bed.

ODU has won at least 25 games 3 of the last 4 years and a large contingent of our fan base is ready to fire Jeff Jones, we did receive an at large in 06-07 after being upset by GMU (who was just coming off their F4 run the year before) in the CAA tourney. We did knock of #8 Georgetown at Georgetown that year. So yeah, I think my comparison to your “decent run” to our “flash in the pan” is pretty apt because your coach would have been fired at ODU for that record. There aren’t 50 decent mid majors every year in basketball, there’s a handful just like football. And you can talk **** about our FCS years if you want but Taylor Heinicke would have torn Coach Moore’s teams a new one those years.

The Sun Belt hasn’t exactly been murderers row for you guys either. Almost beating a good Tenn team and almost beating a good Penn St team are things to be proud of but doesn’t exactly place you at the top of the G5. And Satterfield is gone so we’ll see.

Now, which program is better situated to succeed? Well we have a devoted fan base for football, at least as good as Apps, that donate to the program well beyond that of Apps. Building a new stadium. In good recruiting grounds. And have an attractive OOC schedule well out into the future. Honestly, I think we need a new coaching staff and I’m not alone. But Wilder is popular and he built the program so it’s tricky. But he’ll either get it done or will be fired in the next few years. If he does leave it will be an attractive job for coaches looking to prove themselves for all these reasons. What does App basketball have? No room to laugh at anybody to start. You have attendance that would be considered bad for women’s programs. Any coach will know that all your resources will be funneled to football and they’ll be expected to play road games with little chance of winning just to pay the bills.

There really is no comparison.

Thank you for proving my point on the reality of turning around bball programs vs football programs. YOu're talking about firing a coach that has 25 wins in 3 out of four years in basketball, yet you're perfectly happy with a 30-31 football coach since entering CUSA. BTW that would never fly at App.

The guys that actually run conferences know how difficult it is to develop good football programs, thats why theres a premium for ADs that have them. App is now sitting just outside the level of elite G5 programs. If we can break into the access bowl in the next two years, i think we make it.

Like ASUCrutch said, theres a lot more factors that go into it, and plenty of negatives to bring App onto the AAC, but having elite G5 football will factor in more than any CUSA basketball program.

PS you can think what you want about your FCS years, but i know ODU lost to Ga South at least a couple of times we beat them. And of course, we all know what happened once we have head to head results to compare.
That's okay. our 52k enrollment allows us to print guaranteed athletics funds (I'm being facetious). The fans of Florida twins can relate lol.

Wilder’s seat is plenty warm by all accounts. There are different expectations as we were transitioning but “perfectly happy” is not a correct characterization. Our expectations for our football team are the same as Apps, the same can’t be said for our basketball programs. Our football program is already in better shape than your bb program and App doesn’t seem to have any intentions of having a decent basketball program.

Yes they do but i think there's a loophole that they can use to go around it up to a certain amount from what i have read unlike ours which is a total BS law aimed directly at ODU by that D'bag Kirk Cox.

Please read what i wrote RE: Conference affiliation. I'm well aware there are other factors, and App falls short in some pretty important ones.

As to access bowl, there were influential talking heads last year talking about a 1 loss App team was more deserving of the access bowl invite then UCF. Of course Ga Sou took care of business so it was certainly moot, but with our recent results coupled with our national football brand, you're crazy to think that an undefeated App team (or a 1 loss with some very specific circumstances) isn't going to be in serious consideration for the access bowl.
At the Charlotte/App game this past year I noticed a black and yellow clad individual exiting the bathroom. He failed to wash his hands. I asked him if they teach kids to wash their hands at App State. He politely informed me that at Appalachian, they have an entire curriculum about how to not pee on your hands.
(01-22-2019 12:17 PM)12thmonarch Wrote: [ -> ]You can't honestly believe you are at the verge of breaking into Access Bowl.

As of week 9, App State was the 3rd highest ranked G5, ranked only behind UCF and USF.

http://www.espn.com/college-football/ran...asontype/2

Of those 3, UCF won out and made the access bowl, USF lost the rest of their games, and App won all but 1. If we had won that one game and UCF had lost to Memphis in the AAC title game (remember you have to win your conference title game to get the G5 spot), we were more than likely headed to the access bowl. We are certainly "on the verge" of making it.

Elite G5 oh puhleessseeeee. Your almost win vs Tenn and Penn are almost as worthless as our win vs VT in the bigger picture. You can't honestly believe you are at the verge of breaking into Access Bowl. Yes ODU's start to FBS is bad and yours is decent but you need to lay what ever you are drinking aside because invitation to conferences and athletic program reputations depend on way more than having a decent FB program. Ask Boise, UCF, UCONN, Cincy, Houston etc. App is positioned to succeed in sunbelt and you have done a wonderful job so far and that's it period.

Of course we are all entitled to our opinions and who ever that talking head is I want to see what his logic was to consider inviting your team that lost at Penn St to Access Bowl was. You lost to Penn St and they lost to LSU. UCF beat a P5 even if it was a bad Pitt team What did App St do last year other than running through Sunbelt? I might be missing something here and again this is not an insult or anything, I am genuinely interested in why someone thought App St should get in before UCF?

He's referring to Kirk Herbstreit on College Gameday. What I feel that Kirk was actually doing was trying to downplay UCF to the PLAYOFFS by saying, "why not Utah State, App State, etc."

We absolutely did not deserve it over UCF, even if we had won out. But as I mentioned above, all that had to happen was for them to lose their conference title game and for us not to blow the one game against Georgia Southern.

If you had beaten Penn St and Ga So then I think you should have been in over UCF.

Decent? We have the 2nd best FCS-to-FBS transition of all-time:

Let us not forget Marsha was promptly put on probation for several infractions during this period.

Exactly. Would seem to qualify as "on the verge."
