I seriously doubt THAT'S the reason. 03-lmfao UNT appears to be the universal favorite to win CUSA this year. I just can't imagine nobody thought they would be athletic. LOL!

Go tell that to the WKU and ODU fans that thought we were just voting UNT #1 because we were biased.

LA Tech fans knew UNT would be tough, because of this "poll".

Through games of December 18, here is the list of C-USA teams:

43 North Texas
78 Old Dominion
85 Louisiana Tech
119 Marshall
131 Southern Miss
158 UAB
172 UTSA
177 Western Kentucky
185 Florida Atlantic
194 UTEP
220 FIU
244 Rice
281 Charlotte
304 Middle Tennessee

All I've been reading for a few weeks is how our schedule was too soft, and it wasn't going to prepare us for conference play. The same fans said that poll was misleading because it didn't put enough emphasis on strength of schedule.

Well, there's probably some truth in that statement too. I mean, UNT won tonight, but it was a tie game well inside 1-minute to play on your home court. So while it was a very good win for UNT, I don't know that this performance warrants a #43 ranking, vs LA Tech's #85. The two teams looked like they should probably be closer in rankings. Just my opinion.

Out of the current Top 5 in NET Rankings, Marshall is #4. We play the other 4 all on the road AND we play WKU twice. I just hope we can get in to that top 5 tier for end of the season formatting.

Congrats UNT. It came down to being a 1 possession game. LA Tech obviously had a horrible 1st half (which I missed, so I have no explanation for that.)

As good as Tech's first half defense was vs USM last week it was equally as bad this week at UNT. UNT had 5 uncontested layups in the first half. Coach Konkol was visibly angry about our effort and got in the players' faces about it. You could hear him quite clearly yelling about how we were being outhustled.

We were an entirely different team effort-wise in the second half, but UNT already scored a whopping 35 points, so we spent the entire second half trying to catch up.

Damn you are acting like UNT just won the conference championship.....

after a 3 point home win where every call in the last 5 minutes went UNT's way. BTW anyone that believes the above ranking is how CUSA stacks up...is a fool.

Western 177, below S. Miss, USTA, UAB, 58 spots below Marshall
Agree. A whole lot of shaking still to come.
But some schedules are tougher looking due to road trips.
Middle is now not an automatic road Loss.
What has WKU done to piss off the conference every season? Last season we opened up with 3 conf. road games just like this season....

Stansbury made a good point on radio last night basically saying we could have played North Texas schedule and be 14-1 easily, but chose to play a harder schedule to figure out how we can be the best. He then goes on to say we were forced to make some changes that has helped to prepare us for conf. schedule. North Texas has easiest non conf. and conf. schedule ever in the history of CUSA, cannot wait to see when they are number 1 end of season having to play us and or Marshall on the road.....But conference may give them a break and ask them to play 7 home games inside Texas close to HQ's to end the year....

Our starter Bearden has actually been benched last few games and we have not missed a second with him. Now I do think we will need Bearden down the stretch, but our Freshmen PG is becoming the guy and our team flow and chemistry is so good when he plays......I don't think any WKU fans would ever see Bearden being basically benched for a freshmen but so far so good....

Will be a tough matchup for our young guys but most of our starters did rest almost the entire 2nd half last night against UNCC....

That and Marshall controlled the pace of the game from the opening tip off.

Actually impressed that the game was this close with us dictating the pace like we did. ODU has a good team and Marshall is very happy and lucky to get the big road win to start conference play.

It was a really fun game, not gonna lie. Really exciting to be there and the crowd was on their feet from 4min left. I will disagree that Marshall controlled the pace - it's a lot easier to force a team to slow down than force a team to rush, hence you winning with scoring 70 points, 11 points below your season average.

Jon Elmore was fun to watch one last time in person (assuming we don't draw you at home again in pod racing). Even when he was off in the first half I think he still had somewhere around 15-18 points lol. Great mastermind and commander of the offense.

I don’t know why these guys keep saying Marshall controlled the pace. From what I saw on Pom the pace was 59. Which is even slower than ODU normally plays.

So Dantoni put on his evil genius cap and said “Ima slow ODU down and they won’t like it”? Sheeiiiittttt. Don’t throw ODU in that briarpatch.

Marshall has been getting their assses handed to them in games when the pace is high 70s to 80s. Maybe Dantoni saw the best way to win was to slow his boys down. Now if that’s what the Marshall guys mean then good for them.

But are you really dictating pace at ODU when you play a game at their speed?

Yes, I believe that Marshall DID dictate the pace of last night's game. While we made them use most of the shot clock on their possessions (and twice forced a turnover for a shot clock violation), it was not the "wall" defense that Coach Jones likes to boast about. It was instead our backcourt chasing their backcourt all around on a man-to-man basis. Elmore, Burks and now Kinsey are just too good for us to have gotten away with that over the entire 40 minutes.

Yes, we held them to fewer points and fewer possessions than Marshall typically will achieve in any game. But we did so at their frantic pace, not at our deliberate pace.
No.

Exactly how I felt. We didn't score as much but I felt the flow of the game was definitely going at our pace.

Maybe ODU just plays faster than I originally thought I don't know.
The attendance last night for LA Tech @ UNT was 4238. Pretty good crowd for us, especially considering most students aren’t back yet.
