Do we really open the 2019 Football Season with Illinois State?

my only question is why?

How does this make us better?

You win and you get zero credit for doing so. They win and ....
Don't we play Nebraska Utah and Vandy after that? I'm OK with that, I like the in state games, 1 a year.
Perfect OOC schedule would be two P5, one in state, one G5.
I'm watching this thread, the title alone is reason to drag the trolls out...

All the IL schools should have to play in state school every year on rotating basis.
I am all for it. There should be repectable attendance for this on Labor Day weekend.

Would you prefer Alcorn State or Austin Peay?
It's a good game to start the season to work out the kinks. Not sure why this is a bad thing.

Yeah, I’m sure thankful Dr Phillips didn’t stub his nose and gave us a world class Labor Day weekend in 2014 when a Northwestern team with “nothing to gain” hosted NIU.

Did you know that in-state matchup was NU’s last OOC sellout (until Notre Dame)?
And Huskie Stadium’s last sellout was...also an in-state matchup?!

Or the Blue Hoes of Presbyterian!

This is not an arguement we should be making. The P5 schools can same the same thing about us.

May be one of the dumbest posts on here lately .. we should be playing an fcs in state school every year! They are great for attendance and allow for great fun as many families have alumni of various Illinois schools..

Also last time I checked Nebraska Vandy and Utah are all P5 schools... so it’s 3 P5s and an in state fcs ... reading is a skill folks
Please, please, don't bring that ISU troll back to this board.

I'd rather play an instate FCS school than Cal Poly. Rest of OOC schedule makes it pretty good overall.

+1

Proving once again that you can't please all huskie fans.

I too think this is a great way to start a season.

I'm not a fan at all of Illinois State.

Having said that NIU is right to complain that University of Illinois is cowardly for not scheduling NIU on a somewhat regular basis. That being the case, we would be hypocrites to not schedule ISU once in a while.

Not quite apples to apples, as NIU and U of I are both FBS, and much of the time of similar quality. Nonetheless, keeping the round-robin going in Illinois is a good thing all around....

...TALKING TO YOU ILLINI.
My brother in law thinks ISU is equivalent to Alabama. That said I just made a straight up bet for $100 on this game vs ISU. If we lose this I will lose my ****. Though our record versus in state FCS schools has me a bit worried
I predict the season high attendance will be for the ISU game.
We should be hungry and kick their teeth in....... That’s a good first game and should draw a big crowd!

Agreed with this and the other positive posts.

The poster that started this thread says he roots for NIU, but then says: "Do you really open the 2019 Football Season with Illinois State?" If really a NIU fan he/she would say "we" not "you". Obvious troll.

Sure I am a fake fan.. you got me!
I got more insight to NIU Football than you know buddy. Check any of my previous posts if you consider me a phony. I just did not realize we were playing ISU first game of the season. You guys can pile on. I could give a crap about ISU, I just do not think this game help us, and if it does help us please explain how?

I really liked our 2018 OCC schedule a lot more, it had us battled tested, that is why we kicked ass once we got the the MAC games. But to each their own.

***as far as saying YOU instead of WE , still not sure how that happened but ya, keep your meticulous investigating going.
I've already got people asking me for tickets that don't usually. So I would imagine that there is interest out there.

I know it's a small sample size but hopefully this means numbers will be decent that weekend.
