This weekend the ODU Monarchs will play in the Charleston Southern Thanksgiving Invitational Tournament. The tournament is sponsored by the Charleston Southern University Buccaneers. It’s a four team tournament and ODU will not be facing the home team. In the end, that is advantageous for the Monarchs since they will always play on a neutral court.

Last season the Jackson University Dolphins went 24-9 (12-2 in the Atlantic Sun) and they lost by five points in overtime in the first round of the WNIT. The 24 win season was a program best. Head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin then took the head coaching job at Ole Miss. Darnell Haney, who was an Associate head coach for the past two years at Jacksonville was named the new head coach for this season.

This season the team is 2-2. 1-0 at home, 1-2 on the road. RPI wise they rank 120.

Vs Webber International. W 73-39 non-Div one team, does not count in the rankings.
@ Texas A &M L 73-53 Record: 3-1 RPI: 15
@ Florida St L 79-46 Record: 4-1 RPI: 9
@ Savannah St W 69-58 Record: 0-2 RPI: 348

The Atlantic Sun is currently ranked 23 in the nation. Needless to say, it’s not a very strong conference.

Don’t pay attention to the rebounding stats. Against a non-division one team and a team that ranks near last in RPI (Savannah St) the Dolphins had 50 and 55 rebounds. Against the other two schools, they had 34 and 28. Jasmyn Brown is the team’s leading scorer and she is also the team’s main three point shooter. About half of her shots are behind the arc. #13 Mariah Batz shoots all her shots beyond the arc. As a team they are very good on perimeter defense. They challenge 3’s. This will be a good challenge for ODU. We will have to play inside but not against the length that UVA has.

This is the first meeting between ODU and Jacksonville University. I probably sound over confidence, but after ODU lost to UVA you could tell the players wanted to get back on the floor. I think ODU is going to come out with a little bit of fire. They need games like this to give them confidence.

We geezers remember.
Jacksonville was a Sun Belt member from 1976 to 1998
ODU from 1982 - 1991, so there was indeed a 10 year overlap.

It’s correct. The two teams have never played before. Jacksonville didn’t have women’s basketball until 1999-2000

I called customer service for espn+ and they said the game isn't listed for streaming. I don't know why both ODU and Jacksonville Univ both list the game as being streamed through espn+. Frustrating indeed.
They posted on their FB page there’s no longer a stream today. Radio only.

36-26 Haltime ODU winning
11 point lead shrinks to a tie with 4 min left in the 3rd. 41-41
Losing 52-50 at the end of 3
We hit 2 FTs to go up 3 with just over 3 seconds left and they hit a buzzer beater to send to OT.
78-76 Good Ladies Win!
Gutsy win for the ladies against a very good Jacksonville team. Overcame a buzzer beater 30 footer to send it to overtime.

Of course, if we could hit some FTs, we would have won outright.
Got down 5 early in OT and fought back. Nice win. That was fun!
The game tomorrow against Tennessee Tech is not showing up on ESPN+ either 03-weeping
On Sunday the ODU Monarchs will play the second game of the two day tournament. They will play the Tennessee Technological University Golden Eagles Tennessee Tech is from the Ohio Valley Conference and they play in the "East Division". (They divide their conference into East and West) In the 12 team conference, Tennessee Tech was predicted to finish 7th in the conference. The last year the team went 7-22 (4-14 in conference play) and this season they are 4-1.

The Schedule so far. RPI: 103. SOS Rank: 139.

@ Charleston Southern W 77-55 Record: 0-3 RPI: 350 (ish)
In the game against CSU, Tennessee Tech shot a 30-39 from the free throw line. About a third of their shots were beyond the arc, lead by Jordan Brook who went 4/10.

Golden Eagles Starting Five
44- Lacy Cantrell F 6'2" Sr 12.6 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 0.6 apg, 69.2 FG%, 75.0 FT%, 23.2 mpg

15 Anacia Wilkinson F 6'2" Jr 7.4 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 0.6 apg, 2.8 bpg, 60.7 FG%, 0.0 3P%, 42.9 FT%, 16.0 mpg

Four guard offense, so expect a lot of running against ODU. They like to pass and spread out the ball. Harris and Alexander are their floor generals. Brady off the bench might be the team's best shooter and Wilkinson is a solid force on defense (2.8 bpg) and helps compliment Cantrel really well. It's usually Cantrell down below (69.2 FG%) and all the guard you have to guard from the perimeter. Brock especially as 42 out of her 55 field goal attempts have gone for 3. Against ODU I suspect they will try to play Wilkinson and Cantrell to power the inside.

The numbers say that this game should be close. Hopefully ODU's edge in rebounding will be the difference. But man, that FT percentage is a killer. This will be a good match up for ODU. Tennessee Tech has a good assist to turnover ratio, which is usually a sign of good fundamentals. Both teams won yesterday, so this will be the championship game on a neutral court. But given the distance, I hope more ODU fans show up than Tennessee Tech fans.

Maybe our x-factor might be coach Nikki. She is now 3-0 in OT games in her career.....
