04-cheers We have got a nice out door court at whitehurst but i wonder where they'll make room indoor.
The old basketball practice gym in the Jim Jarret building will be the new home for women's volleyball. Somebody posted budget approval plans a few months back.

They're renovating the Jim Jarrett administration building, previously used for bball practice.

I did. I will add the plan is to hire a coach and asst. coach by January 2019 and then immediately begin recruiting with the hopes to start play in 2020. The biggest issue with the conversion of the JJ building is seating / accommodating bleacher(s).

Can't imagine you'd need too much in the way of seating capacity. The 2017 attendance report has just 49 D1 programs with average attendance of at least 1,000. My guess is that if you can get seating for 500 to 750 in there, you should be OK. If ODU volleyball becomes a thing, you can always revisit.

For big matches, they can always use the Ted.

Or like a conference tournament unless Judy can find another NFL practice facility for us to use. I kid. Maybe.

I agree that it doesn't need to seat any more than 500 MAX. If they show a big push over a couple of seasons, then larger accommodations could be considered. At best, I see something similar to wrestling, that if the HC can schedule a big name team then open up the Ted.

The Ted can not be used because of the mounting requirement for the Net posts. VB is huge in the region and will certainly draw people to campus if it is marketed correctly.

That's the other thing: Most of the popular volleyball programs are in the Midwest and West Coast. There's three top 10 attendance schools in the East: Penn State, Florida and North Carolina, then it falls off a cliff. So unless it's one of them, I'm not sure that you'll get enough of a bump to justify the Ted. Maybe if it's some sort of Education Day thing, or maybe a promotion to goose turnstile count (I remember in the late 90s, ODU played UNC with an eye on setting the NCAA record for regular-season field hockey match attendance. They didn't set it and they lost to boot, but the 2,000-plus they got that day was a lot more than the 100-ish they'd normally draw).

This says matches may be held at the Ted;

Which mounting requirements are you referring to? My understanding is that they would just need a new floor (or new BB floor than incorporated the mounting within the floor).

If anyone has been inside the old basketball practice facility, there is more than enough room to have bleachers on either side of the court. As others have said, volleyball does not draw too many fans but the Jarrett building would be perfect for this. The proper renovations would make for a great venue.

CUSA volleyball has 13 members so I'm sure us as an addition are welcome. But yeah, there are a lot of OOC schools in close range we could play as well

HS level and above require 2- 2 feet deep x 7in holes drilled into concrete through the floor playing surface. This would be very problematic for the Ted.
I believe wrestling matches will also be held there. I imagine capacity will be between 1,000 - 1,500.
