When I was a freshman in HS my school just started VB for the first time. It seemed mildly popular. I assume that HS volleyball in VaB is pretty popular?
volleyball is a great addition and we have a ton of talent in our area.
I'm getting old and it's borderline perverted for me checking out college girls but I enjoy watching beach volleyball. 07-coffee3
Perverted would be watching college boys playing beach volleyball.

Did everyone think it was perverted in Top Gun? 05-stirthepot

The norms of what constitutes perversion has shifted quite a bit over the years. COGS

Now, if that scene in Top Gun had them wearing banana hammocks it might have been a bit perverted.

Could 3.4 mil pay for a new scoreboard?
Getting volleyball into a top tier arena seems to be a better priority than a scoreboard, and I'm good with that. Being successful in every sport is important.

Technically yes, but volleyball has to and is coming. After that, the debate of subtracting sports and/or budgetary $$ to go towards other sports can commence.

3.4 mil could pay for a lot of things. But the 3.4 we were allotted by the state is specifically for this facility. We'd be in deep **** if we didn't spend it on renovation of the Jarrett building.

Actually, after that the plans for adding women’s beach volleyball begin. Adding these women’s athletic scholarships has always been a known cost of adding football. They are necessary for ODU Athletics to stay in compliance with Title IX and are being added because ODU has chosen not to eliminate any men’s sports.
What if you eliminate swimming, which takes away from both so it’s fair to both sides.

We already have the pool. How much would you really save

Probably more than $1 million per year

Where did that number come from? And that's still like 1/40th of our budget.

Harry said the budget for women's volleyball will be $1.1 mil. Guessing he just figured swimming and diving was a similar budget.

Swimming does NOT have a million dollar budget.

Also eliminating women’s swimming would actually HURT the department’s title 9 progress.

If any sport is eliminated, it would most likely be Wrestling. Their budget is most likely the third highest men’s budget and they have a large roster.

Surprised to hear that, I would figure baseball had a higher budget but a better margin.
So get rid of baseball and add softball 03-cloud9

Just kidding. I know that would never happen.
