Cousins only verballed.

Wall never even did that.

Bledsoe wasn't even being recruited.

Only kids who signed the dotted line were Nolan Dennis (went to Baylor) Will Coleman (stayed at Memphis) Darnell Dodson (went to Ky) and Xavier Henry (went to Kansas).

Okay, that's right. But the three that signed and left all played the next year.

Like Keon Clergeot. Signed with Texas Tech the asked out of his LOI to follow Tubby to Memphis.

When coaches leave, most often kids are let out of their NLI. Same thing happened when Josh left and Charlie Moore was let out of his, or when Tubby got here and brought in Keon Clergeot.

Best case scenario for us is that Marshall leaves to take another job, and then it will be a free out for Lomax.

The only way Cal could sign these guys while at Memphis was to provide them with a clause that let them out of their LOI if Cal left. The AD confirmed this.

John Wall was gonna play for Cal, where ever Cal was. That deal was done...

Exactly right. ANd just because Cal left didn't mean the NCAA would let them out. The University had to do that.

Didn't they have clauses at in their NLIs that allowed them to leave if Cal left?

That was then banned after Cal left for Kentucky.

They were never really allowed. We would have released them regardless.
I really think Lomax is a really good player and I hope it works out, but....

I’m not sure Marshall will give him an unrestricted release to another conference team. This story doesn’t really garner the sympathy as a sick parent or grandparent or something of that nature. If he wanted to stay in Memphis, he certainly had the chance. Not only was he offered, he was our number one priority. I don’t see Marshall as the bad guy here, he’d probably release him to any non-conference team. I don’t see any national backlash at all.

I always thought Penny could steer kids to Memphis. Why didn’t he? He obviously wanted the job, and ironically, had Tubby signed Lomax, he might still have the job. One of the big knocks on Tubby was that he couldn’t recruit. Signing good local players would have certainly quieted that down. In the end, Penny was playing chess not checkers...

I think we sign Harris. And we’ll need him next year. It will be interesting who remains on the team. If we sign Harris, that leaves us two spots left (assuming no departures, which is a big assumption). Do we want 2 of our 3 remaining scholarships on two 5’9”ish point guards? Don’t get me wrong, they’re both really good players.

Get over yourself.

Tubby is gone.

Penny is OUR coach.

Alex Lomax will be a Memphis Tiger next year.

Buh bye.

Tubby never tried to recruit Lomax he didn't want to recruit Harris but he realized he was on the hot seat and had to do something.

Tubby and Saul were out trying to recruit kids away from ouwichta Baptist or wherever the hell it is. I doubt Penny is connected to d2 kids.
Didn't the NCAA tighten their rules with the "Calipari Rule" after he left for Kentucky? No more clauses like Cal had.

Unless Marshall leaves, it seems, ALo will not play a game for Memphis next season. He would then be eligible to play four seasons starting in 2019-20.

Marshall blocking this does not force Lomax to lose a year of eligibility, or even force him to "have to suit up for Wichita State", all it does is start the transfer process (just like the Lawsons who left for Kansas, or any of the hundred transfers under Josh Pastner) and delay his Tiger debut by one season.

On the positive side of the coin, he would be getting an extra year to train full-time with this group, and then take the reigns of the program as a freshman after Martin/Brewton/Davenport and company graduate.

It actually would force a lost year of eligibility. The rules are not exactly the same between an NLI release and a transfer.

First off yes we want both of them. Lomax is a pure PG. Harris can but a trey plus flat out score the ball. Secondly we are going to lose several players. We have room to recruit at least 5-6 players depending on how it pans out. I think we sign at least 4 and keep 1 or 2 open

He could just go to a prep school and not lose any eligibility.

I read an article that Marshall had to wait on signed LOI to comment on Lomax. A few days later, it was received and he was quoted on Lomax. He's signed.

From the Wichita State web site:

WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State received a National Letter of Intent from high school senior Alex Lomax on Wednesday wrapping up a productive fall signing period for Shocker head coach Gregg Marshall.

The 5-foot-11 point guard out of Memphis East High School is a two-time Mr. Basketball in Tennesee and has led his team to consecutive Class AAA state championships. East begins the 2017-18 season ranked No. 1 nationally by Max Preps and is No. 3 in the USA Today Super 25.

So he is signed.

I would agree if we have that many scholarships available, which we might. I’ve seen the both play and I like them both. To me it just depends on how many scholarships are actually available.

@GaryParrishCBS: Wichita State has released Alex Lomax from his letter of intent. He played for Penny Hardaway at East. He'll now be a Memphis Tiger.
Looks like he got his release
