Disagree with coaching per se.

Also, better bowl money and better recruiting profile, but yeah, we get it.

We are well above average offensively every year. I will grant that the terribly slow starts the last 2 or 3 seasons are a concern, but overall there has been no significant problem with the offense.

, we are consistently a very good offensive team. Sometimes great. Odd that coaches forget how to call plays when they have their best players injured and a 17 year old QB.
G, after reading a significant number of your posts, I find it hard to believe that you don't see some deficiencies in our play calling, from 2009 to today. OC Scott makes some really odd and honestly dumb calls at times

I have found that I feel that way about every football team I follow closely. I doubt it is because I know better than all of those coaches. More likely is that I notice all of the play calls that l disagree with which result in a bad play, but don't notice the 70 plays that didn't stand out to me or the great calls that resulted in 5 yards when we just needed to keep the drive moving.

Fans of every fanbase whine about this.
ODU has become a good G5 program in a very short time.

It's funny that we complain about our first game against Tech when Marshall has had several tries and no victories.

Williams needs to practice those baseball slides.

We have a very good defense. This game should have been 3-0 at halftime. However, it's hard for any defense to maintain its' ferocity when the O struggles.

I think this was a good learning experience for the Big Blue.

Good Luck Monarchs, keep focused on the CUSA Title!
You can label me "unimpressed" with the whole sandman entrance thing that everyone talks about. I thought it was ho-hum...

I was expecting it to be much louder and impressive as well ... especially with a sold out crowd. Perhaps at night and with a "big game" like Clemson it ratchets up.

Same here. and I agree with BB. Probably louder this weekend against Clemson, otherwise not impressed.

And, oh by the way, was Beamer a little "off beam" during his brief little cheer lead? Seemed like it to me.

You can only do so much with loud garbage music.
Lane gets fired up for big games. The crowd sits on their hands for games like ODU.

They have better coaching, better stadium, better scoreboard, better sound system, better conference, better practice facility, better campus, better media deal, better tradition, better alumni giving, better academic reputation, better name recognition, better budget, better everything.

They're on a whole other level, y'all can take it from here.

Just curious, I wonder how many times Delaware's offense crossed the 50 yard line? We crossed it once, for a total of two plays. And one of them was a punt.

Totally agree. In fact, I thought both NC State and ECU were louder and more imposing than Lane Stadium. Just another example of VT being overhyped and overrated.
A few thoughts from my first game at Lane Stadium:

1. Enter Sandman was not nearly as impressive as I expected. I'm sure it's better at night games, but I was totally unimpressed. NC State and ECU seemed to be louder more imposing stadiums overall.
2. The stats look bad, but the eyeball test shows we're closing the gap. We hung tough, until we just wore down. If we don't drop a couple of those passes and we get a couple more first downs, then this game looks a lot different going into the halftime. We will win our share of P5 games, but it will take time and patience.
3. We have a QB. Williams was undaunted and played with poise. He's going to be a good one with a little more experience.
4. It's evident, with a look around tech's campus, that our tax money for education is not spent evenly or fairly across all state universities.
5. We need a new stadium and indoor practice facility yesterday.
6. Seth Greenburg is still a douche!
It was my first time catching the F22's and those birds were lovely and thundering even from a distance. Here are my thoughts.

I was impressed by their whole campus, the wooded area(being in Atlanta made me a sucker for trees, ask Bazemore :) ) and our stadium of course being in an urban setup we won't have that wooded feel and of course it doesn't take a genius to figure out that Foreman can never be expanded to that size given how we are confined with our campus foot print.

Their Tailgating scene was very good might i say better than the other P5's i have visited and the only G5 that comes any closer is probably ECU.

I hated going around for parking and the cheapest i have found is 22 bucks. Seriously WTF. Parking at ODU's athletic events is nothing compared to at few other places and we let them park free too. We need to start looking into charging for parking lots let alone some grassy knolls.

Our defense looked fantastic in the first half and ofcourse gassed during the second half and that is expected since our offense didn't give them anything to fight for.

Offense was really really bad. Some bad decisions and some bad throws from our frosh QB and some bad drops by our Receivers. Play calling was at times unoriginal and seemed out of touch with situation at hands may be due to our young QB. Receivers need to step up and help him. I don't think Cox will be doing any running until we figure out what's up with our OL( i guess we all know what's up but need to sort that out and may be its just a matter of few games like last season). Last but not least we need to let Heinicke teach young Mr Williams how to slide.

With the understanding that football games are usually not transitive, UD was at full strength, and surely VT took them less seriously that us.....the stats comparison substantially favors Delaware

Total Yards
ODU 149
VT 582

DEL 223
VT 303

1st Downs
ODU 7
VT 32

DEL 12
VT 15

Delaware got into VT territory three times. Two of those were deep into VT land, and one resulted in a first and goal.

The most glaring stat was the time of possession.
ODU 21:45 VT 38:15
Delaware 36:47 VT 23:13

Since there was really no quick strike in either game, the TOP reflected ball control. That UD was able to establish ball control against VT, even though they were not able to finish with a score, is quite a contrast to our inability to do anything at all. That as much as anything was reflective of the substantial difference in VT's total yards.
I don't know if Jordan Hoy has ever played WR, but assuming his physical stats (speed) are reasonably accurate, it might be worth considering moving him to a receiver position, a la David Washington.

The inability of our receivers to break away from the DBs of both UNC and VT on single man coverage was glaring.

Just a thought
Did SW even get sacked? If not that is what impressed me the most about the young man..

One sack was recorded
This board does a terrible job of transitive reasoning.

X team did better than Y team so we must be worse the X, etc.

Not all P5 teams are the same.

Not all teams match up vs. others the same.

Not every Saturday is the same; some times you struggle, bad matchups, turnovers, look ahead (or behind) whatever.

Howard went to UNLV and beat them and then lost to Richmond by 47 points. Is Richmond 50 points better than UNLV? UNLV beat Idaho and then were fairly respectable against Ohio State......would Howard play a respectable game?
I didn't hate the deep ball on 3rd and 1. (It also could have been changed at the line by Williams) There were 9 guys in the box, NO safety help and a 1 on 1 match up with our 6-3 WR. Now execution you could argue with...but at some point somebody just has to make a play. Other than Williams, no one did all day (on offense).
