McCarty #293 in MinorLeagueBall's top 500 (+6).

Caillet continues to work that Minnesota pipeline. INF Charlie Fischer out of Edina, MN commits to USM. Looks to be a left handed bat.

Sound the attack Bugler
A lot of "what-if's" being thrown around here. What it boils down to is playing better when it counts. We simply didn't do that. Our pitching had the ability. Our offense had the ability. Our fielding defense had the ability. We can try and pinpoint the issue all day, but in the end, it's all just speculation. Maybe we went cold at the wrong time? Maybe the opponents got hot at the right time?

My point is, I don't believe the end of the season was attributed to lack of ability. We didn't get beaten by any unbeatable teams (whether that be Rice, UTSA, or MooU). We just didn't play to our true potential during the postseason. Flashes of our ability were shown, but never fulfilled.

It would benefit you to read an entire post before spewing your bs in the reply.

That's good advice ... Lest one miss an if or a few hopes.
Braley to the Marlins. 6th round, 193rd overall pick.

MLB draft tracker estimates that the signing bonus for this pick will be $253.8k.

That's nice $$, good luck to him.
Signing bonus money isn't listed after the 10th round but the last pick in the 10th round is slated to get around $131.3k. IMO, if Kirk isn't picked by the end of the 8th round (last pick there scheduled to get $148.5) I see him coming back for his senior season. But whatever happens best of luck to him.
It gets kind of tricky. Because starting with the 11th round, the first 100,000 of each players signing bonus doesn't count against a team. So theoretically if a team saved a ton of money with senior signs they could draft McCarty in the 15th round and still offer well over 100k, however I don't think that happens, fliers like that are usually taken on HS kids. At this point he won't get much over 100k.

Just realized he got drafted as I was typing this. Slot value for where he was picked is 180k. If I had to guess I'd say they'll both sign. But wouldn't be shocked if they both came back either.
McCarty to Cleveland in the 7th round (pick 222) with a slotted signing bonus of $179.5K
Our rotation next year if McCarty and Braley leave...

Neither Braley nor McCarty was ready to make a decision about their future on Tuesday.

“I haven’t decided anything yet because I haven’t really talked to the Marlins about the money yet,” he said. “(The money’s) got to be on up there, but I really haven’t had time to talk to them about. So I don’t know much yet.”

"I'm very excited about the opportunity and for whatever this leads to," McCarty said.
Not sure what another year under Fed is going to do for McCarty. How much is he really going to improve his stock if he comes back? Can't imagine much. Money is good and makes sense for him to leave.

Given that this was Braley's first full season to pitch in three years, you could maybe see him making some improvements to raise his draft stock in a year if he stayed. But sixth round is really high to turn down.

Have we ever had a player drafted that early to return to school?
For their own good, they both should probably go if they want to pursue MLB. Braley is slotted to get over $250k and McCarty is slotted to get just under $180k.
There is absolutely no reason for them to stay

That's not really all that much. Could be better to finish school now and play another year. Perhaps they do better next year and get just as much of a signing bonus, or more. Of course, they could also flop next year. I wouldn't blame them for signing but, its not like its a $2 million bonus. Would depend a lot on the annual salary amount.

The last salary I know of for a 1st year minor league rookie in rookie ball or SS-A was $1150/month. The signing bonus is the only place you make your money and it has to last you for 3 years or so, because you have to have a place to stay and eat etc. when you're not on the road. Used to get $20/day for meals on the road a few years back.
Doesn't sound like a guy who's staying.
