Hard to tell against such poor competition but he looks like he has the size, mobility, etc. etc. I think the things that can't be taught are there.

I did like the tape. I assume he'll red shirt to get up to speed with FBS-level football.

No, you're great. Will be interesting to see how this Int'l angle plays out.

Also just noticing this McCallister kid. Did you ever mention him....know he was in this last class? Where have I been, haha.

Is he on scholly?

EagleTough/EMU79

I heard that big things can be expected from Nielsen, Leatiota and Tallman. I heard they play with some nastiness. Your thoughts?

Your thoughts on Armstrong and Donnellon?

Just possible the OL might be better than what some (including me) think.

Big thing this is not a really experienced group like last year's group. Might be a 'year away?'?

Might be much better in 2018?

LuckeyOne, I'm sure I'm the one who said that in an earlier recruiting thread I believe.

In a nutshell again. The 3 inside guys will be as good or better than our 3 last year (in my opinion). Tallman is big and tough and seems to have found a home inside, after struggling outside because of a lack of foot speed. Donnellon is 300lbs and ready to roll now after a year in weight room. He always had the athleticism and toughness. Leatiota has been a starter the day he showed up.

Armstrong has played LT and struggled before. More reps now that he's the first guy up might help, but I think he is what he is. An average at best MAC Olineman, serviceable but not close to either of last year's OT's. Nielsen was decent inside last year, which was great for a true frosh. Plenty of size obviously, but the million dollar question is his technique and foot quickness. Like Armstrong, hopefully the extra reps will have him ready for the season. As of today, he has a LONG ways to go. Can't hang with Harris or Crosby at all right now. Crossing fingers that it's just a lack of reps issue that he can overcome.

Pavletich is probably the only other guy that might have the feet, but apparently he can't stay healthy. Unfortunately, Dervil doesn't look like the answer at all so far.
Thanks!
I don't know how the offensive line will fare this year but my goodness we have
some S I Z E!

No Idea on the German Player or mccallister
I think we've thoroughly analyzed the offensive line. Really glad Eastern opens with Charlotte. An easier opponent that can still present a challenge. We've got nothing to gain by playing the likes of Mississippi Valley State.

Now I'm interested in hearing more about the defense. A lot of depth and experience there too. But how's the team speed? What say you E'tough?

More 'unconventional' EMU silent recruiting, haha. Our recruiting guru, nor anyone else on the entire board has ever heard of these kids and boom, they appear like magic!

My guess is both full scholarship. Both Bio's say 'One of EMU's incoming recruits' whereas another frosh OL like Darnell Adams (6'1, 300lbs) says 'joined as a walkon'.

I'd guess faster for 2 quick reasons. Won't really be able to feel/see it until the first game.

I mentioned 1 sign of speed in another post about a week ago. Beck has been moved from the Rover spot (hybrid LB/S) to middle LB. Moving a big safety to LB = more speed. Hoying and Porter fighting for Rover spot. Moving safeties to Rover = more speed. Moody getting bigger and stronger, played a lot last year, would expect even more this year. He's basically a corner playing safety now. Moving corners to safety = more speed and playmaking ability. Would rather have fast, playmaking safeties, than bigger/slower guys. As long as they can make tackles and hold up physically.

Secondly, our entire secondary was young last year, except Pace, who certainly wasn't a burner himself. Another year in the weight room, but more importantly another year in Neathery's scheme, should allow all of them to play faster, without thinking as much.

Neathery likes a fast attacking defense. I definitely think he was held back some last year because it was his first year teaching everyone a new defense. The ONLY guy that we lost that really mattered was OC. The DE reps were actually split evenly last year in a 3 man rotation. Early in a number of games, Holford made it almost a 4 man rotation. In the second halves it went mostly 3 man. Don't expect a dropoff their at all. Pace was a Senior 3 year starter, but he almost certainly gave up the most big plays of all the DB's.

Excited to see this year's version. Would be shocked if we're not better than last year.
Lots of new faces on this roster. 28 freshmen and 4 Jucos with 2 years of eligibility (Jones, Dervil, McAllister, LaBarbara)

EagleTough,

Great analysis!
I'll repeat my summary in one paragraph:

Defense will be solid with good speed, toughness, speed, etc. The offense has a number of good players at the skill positions and will shine if the offensive line can be molded into a good unit OR the offense can be tailored to a scheme which doesn't depend on very good blocking to open holes or give the QB a lot of protection. I don't see Roback sitting back in the pocket counting 1 second, two seconds, three seconds, four seconds... Should be interesting to see how the run game goes for things like sweeps, etc.
Phil Steele says EMU is returning 86% of it's tackle®s from last season; 4th best tackling experience in the country.

Hopefully that leads to some nice defensive progression for the Eagles. Can't wait to cheer you on in your OOC!

Good news. Is there a stat for missed tackles?

I love computers and computing but sometimes as every play in every sport is recorded as data we can get endless statistics...

That statistic, I guess, though is significant. It suggests that we haven't lost too much from the 2016 defense which is certainly EagleTough's view.

Sure we lost POC but every team loses key defenders so it all evens out and we lost POC from our strongest unit, DE.

Our tackling last year was light years ahead of the previous year. Most of the missed tackles last year were from the youngest DB's, which should get better in their second year.
Don't forget Bo Bell at RB or this WR:

McAllister had one FCS offer from Alabama St., graduated from JUCO May 2017, two for three.

Interesting to see the Yannik has participated in at least one LeCharles Bentley OLine camp.
I really like the tape on Yannik.

He played against inferior competition, but he dominated, played hard, finished blocks, moved well, good feet, good balance, etc. etc.

I assume the jump from European ball to FBS is a lot in one year, but a good redshirt year and 2018 he could be in the 2-deeps.

I like him a lot, lot more than Harris whose techniques seemed very flawed for offensive tackle.
No need to give McAllister a scholarship, with his single FCS offer, preferred walkon at best.

Bo Bell is the real deal. Super productive on a Championship team. Overlooked because of his size.
