...at ESPN. Probably won't affect ODU one way or another but for some it might be more interesting than continuing a 12th straight year of daily bashing of ODU's choice in its basketball coach.

I hope Jay Harris is safe.
Yea, he might be sweating for awhile. The great thing about Jay is he was outstanding as a news anchor in Pittsburgh and can go back to that work in any number of great cities if necessary.
Wonder if he does play by play?05-stirthepot
Can he recruit??

You can count on Petey
Screw ESPN. They treated Sage Steele like crap because she dared to not with their political agenda. This is ESPN's issue - broadcast the damned game and STFU about politics.
This is because they are switching to a streaming service, totally new ballgame. Hope Disneys stock blows up

Yeah, NPR had a spot on it. Sports Center shtick was highlights. Today everyone watches high lights instantly on all sorts of streaming platforms, Facebook, Youtube, etc.

They're focusing on personalities and a new streaming service themselves a la carte. They also said "don't feel bad for ESPN. They are still bringing in a ton of cash just not as much as before and they're adjusting" paraphrased.

I too hope Disney stock blows up. =]
There was a time not long ago that I hardly watched much more than sports, and SportsCenter was a must. I watched it every single night before I went to bed.

The reality is that ESPN is terrible now. Between shows where the goal is to see who can yell the loudest, the political nonsense, and the declining quality of SC, I'm pretty much done with it.

Jay Harris and SVP are some of the last few good hosts of SC and they buried SVP in late night which was a colossal mistake. Now they let Stark and other really strong talent go? Crazy.

When I first read the title I thought it might be Gary Paulsen's birthday.
I know what will save ESPN! Just run another segment on Tebow and Manziel and they will be golden. No need to fire anyone

I used to watch sportscenter every morning as most people probably did. But, now you just log on thr internet and see highlights instantly.

ESPan had to change model, it was a dying breed. The loud, obnoxious personalities were just an attempt to find someone to tune in.
Remember when ESPN did sports and MTV did music videos. Reality TV is over taking all networks.

This.

Every. Single. One of their shows that aren't just highlight shows are awful. Nobody wants to watch a bunch supposed sports people preach about politics. This is why they are losing viewers in droves. They are trying too hard to model themselves after the 24 hour news networks (who btw are not losing viewers to streaming), when the reality is that people tune to ESPN to avoid the craziness of those networks.

ESPN can try to spin this 1,000 different ways, but until they come to grips with being a sports network, and a distraction from all the drama going on in the world, they will continue their downward spiral.

This is just not true. Their ratings weren't tanking BEFORE they started going in another direction. People want to sit and watch mindless TV. That is why HGTV is taking over as the most valuable channel on cable. The reality is that a huge percentage of what ESPN is airing is off putting to a vast swath of the population.

That's where they lost me. When they give their Courageous Athlete of the Year award to a newly minted skank, Caitlyn Jenner, over a kid fighting brain cancer but still doing positive things (Lauren Hill), that was the last straw for me.
Anyone watch the draft via ESPN? The crew was pretty meh. Mel Kiper seems angry. None of them seemed chipper. Even Gruden wasn't himself. I wonder if the cuts put a damper on their analysis and commentary.
Of course it did. You can't lose dozens of your co-workers in one fell swoop and not be effected.
