I would like to thank Coach Bailiff and the entire coaching staff at Rice University for the opportunity to further my education and play football at such a prestigious University. After much thought and discussion with my family, I have decided to decommit from Rice University.

To be expected. Can’t worry about losing commits during a coaching change.

I honestly doubt we will lose too many because we are their only offers in a lot of cases. I’d hope our hire would have a couple targets to bring in too. All the more reason to get this search done quickly.
Just like men's basketball, we don't need people whose sole attraction to playing for Rice is a coach.

I mean, do we want students who can't write their own stuff?
Getting the right guy is more important to the long-term quality and health of the program than saving a handful of recruits this year. We don't have a Luck or Stafford in the commits, and without one then it's not the end of the world to lose a few. That always happens when there is a coaching change, and lots of those changes have worked out just fine. Sometimes the new coach even gets them back. And usually the new coach has a few on the line to replace any that are lost.
I agree. If they truly want to come to Rice, they will.

It's quite possible that it was the 1-11 season, moreso that the DB firing, that caused the decommit.

This wasn't exactly looming as a great class before this. It would be a true shame to lose a bunch of guys if we were looking at a top 50 recruiting class. But falling from 99 to 105 is not a tragic loss. It just means the answers probably are not going to come from this class. But then again, they probably weren't anyway. If the new guy can bring in a couple of good prospects, the class might actually end up a lot better.

Defensive recruiting looks to going pretty well to be honest. Stewart is always tagged in the tweets from recruits so I think people like him.

The offensive side of the ball is a different story. Our one commit on that side of the ball is an OL with no other offers. Also, OL is a position we should be able to recruit easily.

Another decommit

He has offers from air force, army and if he doesn't want to join the military, Stephen F Austin.

Yet he walks from Rice. Weird
Why do all these decommit tweets sound the same? Is there a decommit announcement website all these guys use as a go by?

Yes - Twitter

At least the second twin one didn't decommit by way of a retweet... in the year of the "metoo" movement, cut and paste is becoming a lost art...

This sort of problem is much bigger in basketball, but the real problem is when 40-60% of the current players decide to leave the school. Scott Pera was able to bring in a number of promising recruits - losing commitments was not a problem in that particular transition.

There will be attrition in football, but I bet you it’s 5 or 6 guys out of 85 rather than 5 or 6 out of 13.

Don’t why the transfer epidemic is so much worse in basketball.
What other offers did they receive?

According to 247sports.com:

Blake: Arizona St., Boise St., Colorado, Colorado St., Iowa St., ULL, ULM, New Mexico, New Mexico St., SMU, UTSA, Tulane, Tulsa, Utah

Brant: Boise St., Colorado, Colorado St., Iowa St., ULL, ULM, New Mexico, New Mexico St., UNT, San Diego St., SMU, SFA, Texas St., Tulane, Utah
Sometimes decommits will recommit when the new coach is hired. Usually any new coach will have a few recruits, and occasionally some transfers, that come with him. As long as we make a good hire, and make it reasonably quickly, we should probably do no worse than break even on the deal.
