Playing "well" is extremely relative.

A basketball game is probably the highlight of the social life. If it's still like it was you couldn't have a car on campus till you were a senior.

The Longwood ladies of my day ditched their coeds to hang and party with the guys at Hampden Sydney. The times sure have changed.

I noticed some empty seats around the arena during the game, after thinking that there would be a great turnout. 7000 is a decent turnout for the Charlotte game but the empty seats were due to the VIP room. People can eat, drink, and watch the game all from one room. There were a ton of people up there during the game.

I attended a Longwood game a few Saturdays ago. They had more students at their game than us (typically). This is with a 12 game losing streak.

MH! Did you not frequent Nottingham Inn and Red Lion? There was fun to be had but it involved alcohol. I was hanging out there a lot on my weekend jaunts from ODU. Of course my future wife was there and I grew up about 30 miles to the south of Farmville. Compared to my hometown Farmville was a thriving metropolis. LOL?

It is. But, by any relative measure, we've played well the last two games.
Coach, we are climbing back to top 100 Ken Pom rating. Without the Stith injury, we are well within the top 100.

This does not come as a shock to me. Whether people want to believe it or not, we have been an extremely efficient basketball team.

I know why he doesn't, but I do wish he'd include ratings for "last 10 games," as I think it would give us a better sense of "what have you done for me lately." UTEP might be the prime example of that, as their recent performance is night and day from the OOC performance.
Really hoping to see some student engagement for the Marshall game. We need them. I hope they know this.

We'll, let's start by banning all Patsy Thread titles... LOL

This topic has been on my mind all morning. What can we do to get them out to the game on Thursday and Saturday night? These are big games, and we need the students to set the atmosphere.

Then, beyond this week, is there anything we can do to revitalize the student section before next year? All signs point to us having a good season next year, but I really do think an engaged student section can help that become a reality.

It seems to me if the coaching staff could find a couple of hours during the week to travel with the team around some dorms and frat houses to do a mid week pep rally it would do a lot to promote student participation. Have the team mingle with the students and talk a little bball. If I was a student that might get me fired up to attend the games this week.
They have shown up well in spots; they just will not come out when the opponent doesn't interest them.
They would if the admin started doing promotions like they used to....free zeros subs if we win and score a certain amount of points. I can remember getting some kind of swag at almost EVERY game. Tshirt, hat, noise cone, blue wig, jerseys even! They gave away a freaking CAR one year and entries to the contest were based on games attended. There used to be a point system for giveaways at year end based on games attended - i got signed basketballs, lanyards, shirts. There used to be free chickfila sandwich coupons given away at the exits almost every game.

There were ads all over webb center and the dorms....there was spirit fridays where the admin rolled around campus giving stuff away to people if they were wearing odu colors and telling them of upcoming games...

NONE of that stuff happens anymore. Athletics admin is asleep at the wheel on this one...

and keep in mind, there werent always great opponents back then either...northeastern? hofstra? towson? UMES? Howard? etc. we came out to EVERY game.
Have you contacted the athletics department with your ideas? They sound like good ones.
I have not....maybe I should. The current state of student involvement makes me very, very sad. Especially knowing how solid it was less than a decade ago.

Please do it.

Please do so. A lot of posters have complaints and/or good suggestions and the administration is typically very responsive (at least any time I have contacted them).
I will draft up a message this week. The unfortunate part is that we are at season end. Maybe they can take some feedback and use it for next season. Something needs to change though.

From a $ perspective I consider it an investment in your future donor base. If you don't hook them now, they will not be ponying up down the line. It worked for me! hah.

Try to read this...here is the proof that we are a better team then our conference record reads.
A little bit random, but am I the only one who think the UTEP hype is getting out of hand? Maybe it is just me, but the CUSA board seems to just write us off as the fourth seed... seems odd to hype up a 11-15 team. Yes, we have coughed up some games we shouldn't have lost and play down to our competition at times, but I just can not find the reasons to justify the disrespect the conference board give us lol
