They have their own TV network to promote and show all their games. It will be interesting to see the dynamics of who they can find to play them but again with all the money they have they will be able to buy games. I was hoping no one else in VA would move up until we had our new stadium up and running and our program was running smoothly at the FBS level. How much Liberty will impact us is debatable, I know, but I wish it was a debate we did not need to have at this time.

The more I think about this, the more I realize they are just in their own world and I don't think it will negatively impact us this much. Their goal is to be Noter Dame eventually, BYU sooner. It's not really a threat to us especially if we just don't schedule them.

I mean, do we even have an open spot for another OOC FBS opponent available in the next 5 years? I thought we were booked solid anyway. I don't think this is something to worry about - they are on an island. They just happen to share the same state.

This. How much success did they have at the FCS level with all of their money and resources? 1, maybe 2 playoff appearances? Moving up a level isn't going to all of a sudden make them worldbeaters.
they may looking at coastal carolina and feel "if they can do it, so can we". looking in from the outside, i dont see anything that tells me they are prepared for the change. im sure we all can see the overt size and skill sets that differ from fcs to fbs and then again fbs p5. this is gonna be a tough row to hoe for the players in the next few years.
Im not sure they will affect our recruiting. THey are targeting kids that have different desires from a college than we are. We offer the beach, urban campus, and a metropolitan area....they offer God, mountains, and absolutely nothing to do.

"whose president openly called for shooting Muslims" That's a pretty serious charge... can you cite your source on that one?

APA format would be a bonus.

He said the following;

“I’ve always thought if more good people had concealed carry permits, then we could end those Muslims before they walked in."

If you read the whole quote, he clearly meant to say terrorists. He should be smart enough to not make a phrasing error that egregious.

Whoa, you read the entire quote? Who does that? You're supposed to only read the parts that support your opinions, at least, that's what the news tells me.

JMU thread up to 10 pages. I'm actually surprised they aren't as angry as I thought they would be.

I think at this point, JMU fans have skipped the first 3 steps and just go straight from depression to acceptance

We have an empty suit admin, don't blame the current college kids and hard working alum. Our athletics have been Bourned and our president is a result absent liberal with a track record of zilch.

At least ODU wont end up being one of Liberty's fcs cupcake games.
Matt Brown of SB Nation is not a fan of the move;

I'm shocked to read so many dismissive posts regarding Liberty - sounds like UVA and VT fans talking about us.
Also surprised to see how many think we are so much better than them. They offer fantastic facilities, a solid fan base, a campus that is growing exponentially in every way. Sounds a lot like us.

I'm sure it's political motivations that drive this feigned outrage - liberal vs conservative. Tolerance be damned. Liberally dominated faith-based schools seem to be no problem and their are TONS of them in FBS and D-1 hoops. But a conservative faith based school is a pariah? Tolerance based on lock-step adherence to liberal ideology is not tolerance. Politics should have nothing to do with this.

I think they will be a solid program and I fully expect us to play them in FBALL just as we have played them in BBALL.
Frankly, I have not wanted JMU to go to FBS because I enjoyed being one of the 3 FBS programs in the state. While I am not overjoyed to see them move up - it's certainly their right to do so and I admire their drive for success. I'm sure there are plenty of JMU fans that wish their administration had the same outlook. As we know, if you don't move up now - you are out for a long period of time. The time is now - and they made their move just as we made our move.

Now I'm just wondering if we should pull for JMU to move up as well. That's a tough one.

Not necessarily. I'm a Christian and about as Conservative as they come, and I think they are going to struggle without a Conference.
How many pay games do you all think Liberty will pursue per year during the first few years?

That's not funny but I'm laughing hard [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]

It's not politics, it's a question of principled morality. Please read up on the actions (or inactions) of the Baylor AD. These led to him being fired by a Christian school, only to be hired by Falwell. Sometimes ambition clouds the judgment of leaders. Falwell seems to me to be one of those. You can't abandon principles for the sake of spreading the "word".
I realize this is way out there, but if JMU applies for a waiver and is allowed to move up to FBS, does this put any more fire under the idea of a more regional conference or even a more regional football only conference? ODU, JMU, Liberty, Charlotte, can't think of who else right now.
So here is my immature post of the day - every time I see the name "Falwell" I think of the movie The People vs. Larry Flint, when Flint (played by Woody Harrleson) calls him "Jerry Fart-well."

Good God I hope not. Would be the worst conference in the NCAA and thats not even considering the basketball stink it would be.

Of course not. Thats what JMU is for.
I heard UMUC and Strayer U are trying to join FBS as well. To many FBS teams already.
JMU's boards are screaming their asses off about their administration, but I have to say, their boards are quite a bit more civil than the good old Loin's Den. We seem to venture into personal attacks around here rather than good debate and dialogue.

Don't forget about University of Phoenix or ECPI. I even heard Devry is looking into getting some skin in the game.

ECPI had a good recruiting class this year, but University of Phoenix is in a heap of trouble. Maybe the Baylor of the east.

I remember hearing and reading people say that around the time that ODU announced its move to FBS.

As for JMU, I feel bad for their FBS-hungry fans. Imagine eight years ago, an FCS national title still close in their rearview mirror, progress being made toward expanding their stadium, Liberty and Coastal Carolina are mediocre FCS program, ODU and Georgia State are just starting their programs. Now all four of those schools are or will be in FBS; ODU has a 10-win season and a bowl victory, and Georgia State has a bowl appearance. Another former rival (Appalachian State) is arguably the flagship program in its conference, or at least in the top tier. And JMU, outside of completing part of its expansion, is spinning its wheels. Even as their on-field product bears fruit, there's no signs from their administration that there's ambition for anything else. It's not as big a deal when you're winning a national title, but the next season when you're hosting Morehead State and Central Connecticut State while other regional programs over whom you had a big head start are hosting P5 programs, it stings.
