Notes from fall camp from Allen Moff of the RC:
Stefano Millin will wear The 54 jersey this year! He will represent it very well!

On the RBs:
Not sure who would be considered the starter at this point. They'll (Holley, James, & Rankin) all see plenty of action.

On the QBs:
No starter has been named. Haynes said last week they'll all three play in the first four games of the season.

On who has stood out in fall camp thus far:
Haynes has been pleased with Fr. P Derek Adams' leg strength and hang time. Watch out for freshman DL Theo Majette; juniors Jontey Byrd (DL), Nick Holley (RB) have shined.

Sophomore speedster Antwan Dixon will miss the 2016 @KentStFootball season:
Do not like that note on the QB situation at all!!! Sad thing is to be in a predicament like that with a returning 3 year starter on the team! Between this and our schedule I fully see this being Paul Haynes last year at the helm... Oh, and Dixon out too? :(
This team will only be as good as the OL. That was the biggest source of problems last year. The excuse was that they were young. Well, they are older now. The QB and RB can only be as good as the protection they receive. Defence should continue to be good or acceptable. Unfortunately, not much is known about OL players when they are recruited. Therefore, we do not know if they have potential or not. If Haynes is building a program around depth and line play, then we could be quietly snicking up on our opposition. Hope so.
I am cautiously optimistic about this season.

Well, OK, that's every season.

Seriously? This just sounds like a terrible idea...
The old adage: if you have three quarterbacks, you don't have one quarterback.

Page 6 of 49 has the depth chart headed into the season. It's a real shame that Antwan Dixon has to sit out the season.

Being completely honest, he was the only player on offense I was excited to see going into the year. I liked what I saw from Simmons too so I was hoping for good things from him. From the looks of it this could be another year where the defense doesn't get to stay on the sidelines long...
Interesting notes on the Depth Chart:
1. Holley and James both listed as slot receivers this year.
2. True freshman Rankin listed as the starting tailback with Hibbler not in the top 3.
3. Elcee Refuge third in line at OLB. That's disappointing for a 3 year starter.
4. Najee Murray moved from CB to "Apache". He seemed to struggle in one on one coverage so that might work out.
5. Quan Robinson not listed in the 2 deep at CB. He seemed to be our 3rd best CB last year so I figured he'd start opposite of Monday with Murray moving over.

Based on past defensive history I'd guess Refuge and Robinson's standing are more an issue of rising depth around them instead of poor performance ... sadly can't say the same about the offensive movement.

James saw a lot of time @ WR/out of the backfield as a RB, so with Simmons/Dixon not playing this year, seems to make sense for James. Holley is returning from injury, is a solid RB, but started his career @ KSU as a WR. Rankin was awarded most valuable offensive player in spring ball and the other 2 RBs from LA are very talented.

Woods & White have good size @ WR, now that just needs to translate into catches, yards & points.

With Italiano out of eligibility, the Apache position needed a starter with talent and experience, so moving Murray there makes sense.

Allen Moff of RC said that Robinson should be on the 2 deep as he is a backup @ CB.

It will be interesting to see who Haynes/staff name as the starting QB late tonight/early tomorrow morning and to see what the depth chart looks like once the game notes for Penn State game are released, to see if any other changes occurred at any position.

The OL has size and experience, so hopefully that translates to better pass blocking and run blocking this season. This the 3rd year starting for Reda @ LT, 4th year for Scott @ LG, 2nd year @ C for Millin, 2nd year @ RG for Puthoff, & 2nd year for Brock @ RT, with a 5th year player @ TE.

Not sure if Refuge is over weight or coming back from injury, as he has played a lot of downs for KSU the last 3yrs @ LB. In past years he has stood to lose some weight and stop getting personal foul penalties, so maybe the coaching staff grew tired of those 2 items. Cuthbert moving to LB should help with alignment/adjustments. LB production has been lacking for a few years now @ KSU, so maybe this is the season that they turn it around? There are certainly large #s of LBs on the depth chart.
Justin Agner got the nod to start Saturday vs PSU - http://www.recordpub.com/sports/2016/08/...uarterback

I am completely shocked over this. He must be very good. From reading Coach Haynes, it sounds like Bollas is actually 3rd on the chart. There is something fishy here.

I agree its either 1)Bollas got in trouble and they are quietly disciplining him or 2) Haynes seat is so hot his strategy is to start a true frosh so at end of year he can point to being so young and we're building something after we go 3-9 or 3) Agner is a flat out stud.

Lets hope its #3 but nothing in my 26 years of Kent football leads me to be positive. 03-banghead

Agree entirely - and I am beyond 26 years - I saw us play Xavier and Dayton at a new Dix Stadium when they both had D I football 05-nono
Not sure what to expect from Agner, but I'm cautiously optimistic. When a first year player unexpectedly wins the starting job it generally means good things because he likely was fighting an uphill battle to convince the coaches to go with inexperience.

By no means making a comparison for expectations, but the last time a first year player beat out an incumbent (that I remember) was Edelman beating out Machen. Keith's freshman year was similar in that pretty much everyone expected Georgio Morgan to be the heir apparent to Edelman and although I think Morgan started the first game, Keith won the job pretty quickly and held it for 4 years. Those are, by far, the best two QBs we've had since Cribbs.

Wow - coach has a lot of courage putting him out there starting game 1 as a true freshmen; even if he is that good, I'd be worried our O-line won't be at the level as PSU's D-line and whoever is at quarterback would get a beating. Holding him back a week and letting him have his first start at NC A&T might give him a chance to start his career on a positive note.

Of course, I'd hate to be telling Bollas or Mitchell to take a beating in game 1 to save the new guy.
