Why is UTA the home team? Weren't we seeded higher? Also, Hughes is on fire, strikes out 5 of the first 6 UTA batters he faces in 2 perfect innings so far.

If the game is not starting due to weather and it isn't actually raining, then the game is being delayed by lightning, not rain nearby. I've been to and watched games at the Tigue during heavy rains, but no lightning, and they play on. From what I recall overhearing from UL game day management during our rain delay/postponement last Thursday, is that it's strike within 15 miles. For every strike detected, game is pushed back 30 minutes.

I sat thru a few games last February at Bobcat Ballpark vs Central Michigan. It was a consistent mist/light rain throughout the game...only about 35 degrees.

The good thing is at our Ballpark the cantilever should keep most seats dry during rain.

The radio crew says it's a coin-toss that decides home/away.

Huh?

A-State was visitor against ULL. We are on top and they were on bottom. Then when we played Troy yesterday, we were on bottom and the home team. Same logic is applying to this game today.

That's strange about the home/away. I was just going off of the youth tournaments my son plays in, the higher seeded team gets to be the home team. That makes sense to me, but they do the coin flip in the pool games prior to seeding so I have seen that as well.

Has nothing to do with that

Home team is determined by 3 things

1. If Round 1, Higher Seed is home team
2. If a later round, the team who has been home team the least gets to play as home team.
3. If the teams have been home the same amount of times, a coin flip determines home team.

In the case of GS/UTA, both were visiting teams yesterday, so they flipped for home team today, and UTA won. In the case of Troy/AState yesterday, Troy was home team for its first game and AState was visitiors, so AState was home team for the game.

Same story between Texas State/ULL next game. ULL played home first round and TX State played visitors, so Texas State will be home team for the game.

Georgia Southern will be home team next game win or lose.

Coin is flipped as soon as the matchup is known, so in your case, the coin was flipped Thursday after UTA beat USA. For tonight's game, the conference likely flipped last night to determine who would be home if USA/UTA play again today. If Georgia Southern loses, they are automatically home, regardless. For tomorrow, they'll flip for both games before the first game starts, or if the first game is home team, they'll flip for game 2 before Game 1 is even played.

Not a bad commercial by visitmyrtlebeach.com on ESPN3.

3-0 Eagles in the Top of the 8th. With Hughes on the mound, this might be over, though one has to wonder what Hughes will have left for the rest of the tournament after throwing so much today.
